Re: Help diagnosis 4-month old infant (pics) not vaccinated, exclusively breastfed, cheek area has rash and yellow scabs
I came across this site as I have been researching info on my son's eczema. It appears my son has the same rash as your daughter has. He is now 5 and a half months old, exclusively breastfed. He started off with perfect skin, and at about 2 months his "baby acne" turned into full blown eczema on his cheeks primarily. He also suffers from cradle cap. At first I did an elimination diet, eliminating dairy, wheat and egg, but he would still flare up badly every 5-6 days. I have unfortunately been using the steroid creams just to ease his discomfort as I try to find the source of his outbreaks. Since eliminating the main 3 allergens did not help much, I am investigating salicylates (naturally ocurring chemicals in foods), as my diet was heavy in fruits and vegetables, nuts, coffee etc. If nothing you are doing is working, then I urge you to look at salicylates in your diet, which I am doing, it may well be the cause. I had tried the low salicylate diet for a week and noticed improvement, but on day 6 when he broke out again (mildly), I abandoned the diet which I know was wrong but I was so frustrated at that point. The diet has to be adhered to for at least amonth to see real improvement. I am going back on it tomorrow. Since eating tomatoes, cucumber, strawberries, and some processed foods, his latest flare up was worse than ever, which is why food chemical sensitivity seems very likely. Hope you read this, and if you do, then contact me, I will email you photos of my son, and we can discuss this further if you are looking for more support, as I am.
