My Original Theory:
It seems that one percent of the population suffers from schizophrenia which is a lower state of consciousness and therefore to "balance" that out one percent of the population

"suffers" from spirituality or being in a higher state of consciousness.

Spirituality as used here has no relationship to any religious belief or practice but is just a higher state of consciousness.

The other 98 percent remain in the ordinary state of consciousness. Why do I bring this up? Because Turiya is suggesting that merely disturbing the ego will result in the "crumbling of the ego" and I am saying that it is going to take falling into a black hole in space to move most egos from their complacent view of themselves as the center of the universe.

Thus it will take some genetic variation of current humanity to improve the spiritual nature of Man. However it has been said that there is no evidence of Enlightenment running in families.
