Me too.... I've thought of it many times because it is needed.... if only!
"Do you think a wealthy, private citizen would be allowed to do something like the Rockefeller's did in 1917 with their film on hookworms and going around to public fairs etc to try to educate people about parasites in the US? Or do you think the FDA would not allow it??"
Not sure. Although, I don't think so because it would be related to "Public Health". The double-edge sword, perhaps, would be to work with a pharm company. The awareness and meds are needed. The problem are the RIGHT meds need to be used, not just any meds to make a quick buck for the FDA/pharm companies to "approve". What I'd be afraid of is once the awareness happens, the pharm companies are going to push the drugs that do more damage rather than good. However, if there is a strong enough voice with a grassroots movement, this could change things for the better in the long run. They would put an effort/time in developing something. Maybe something is developed that we don't know about in another country that has been successful. I know that I had made that post by the Mayo Clinic stating that little effort has been put into anthelmintics because there doesn't seem to be a problem.
