If I were a gazillionaire, I'd fund it ADDED TEXT!
Seriously, I've thought of this too- if the Rockefeller's funded the Hookworm Public Awareness campaign...COULD someone like Bill Gates do a private campaign in the US today--or would FDA shut it right down?
I've often thought this since entering the world of having knowledge of parasites and what they cause, if I had the money, I would put it towards raising public awareness, and I know others would say the same thing.
Last summer in Salt Lake City, over 400 people got sick from crytosporidium from swimming in public pools. There is a major advertising campaign going on to raise public awareness. Alot of money was also spent on special UV lights to install in pools.
Someplace a few months back, I was reading where Kraft was going to be putting dewormers in products like mac and cheese that they shipped to foreign countries- because of how badly infected people are in whatever nation it was. I'll try to find the news story again.
Do you think a wealthy, private citizen would be allowed to do something like the Rockefeller's did in 1917 with their film on hookworms and going around to public fairs etc to try to educate people about parasites in the US? Or do you think the FDA would not allow it??
