Can WD be done using legumes/beans as protein?

I just bought the WD book yesterday, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm still learning about this diet. In the past I have been raw, vegan, vegetarian, and when doing low-carb have eaten some fish. But I do not enjoy eating fish and will not eat meat. I'm wondering if the WD can be done successfully without eating animal protein? What most appeals to me about this diet is fasting and breaking the fast daily. That way I can allow detoxification while not feeling deprived. I have done extended fasts in the past, including long water fasts, and I have not been very good at breaking them because I tend to want to binge at some point after a fast. I think WD would be the best of both worlds and help me to prevent that binge impulse.

I need to lose a bunch of weight after throwing all good eating sense to the wind this past year. For those experienced in WD, would the success I want be possible if I fast during the day, and then in the evening do salad, veggies, beans (and brown rice if desire), and once in a while add some fruit with yogurt if I have a sweet tooth. I believe this kind of diet is something I could sustain and enjoy. I just don't want to eat meat. Any opinions?

Thanks!
