Re: calorie restriction diet forum
Hey,
I am a moderator of a message board for people following a calorie restriction diet.
From the time that I've spent helping people and watching what they are doing, I can say that there are some serious pros and cons to following such a diet. I think calorie restriction in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing; in fact, I think that if you are watching what you eat carefully, that calorie restriction makes sense to a lot of people.
Where a lot of people go wrong is when they decide that they will only eat 500 calories a day, but those 500 calories come from Coca Cola and Doritos. They lose the weight, then gain it back very fast due to the fact that they have robbed their bodies of essential nutrients and the fact that their bodies are in that horrible carb-induced low-sugar stupor.
The best results come from when people follow a rawfood calorie-reduced diet or a macrobiotic diet. Their long-term results show that they can keep the weight off, and they feel terrific in the meantime. Many of my message board members can even maintain extremely healthy albiet very low weights so long as the foods that they consume are very healthy.
I'm no expert in the field, but I've been moderating and helping people for 3 years lose weight this way. It can often be a dangerous method depending on whether you have a history of eating disorders because it can easily trigger you to fall into extremes, but if you are consciencious and aware of your body, it can be very satisfying.
Good luck!
