#64643:

You are saying that supplementing cortisol is good as well? These ideas seem to conflict, do you agree? Prednisone acts AS cortisol in the body. It does not lower it. If this therapy worked by supplementing the adrenals, common sense would say that a cortisol deficiency was happening.

I understand the correlation you are making between cortisol and inflammation, but I'm not sure the body works that way. People with completely normal cortisol levels can have skin inflammation of all types. They don't use the prednisone for adrenal supplementation. It acts in a different way entirely.

"Corticosteroid medications are chemically similar to your body's natural steroids and duplicate their actions. When prescribed in doses that exceed your body's usual levels, corticosteroids suppress inflammation, which can reduce the symptoms of inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, asthma, and dermatitis.

Researchers don't fully understand how corticosteroids suppress inflammation. One theory is that they deactivate a protein associated with inflammation. Another is that they alter the function of cell membranes."

It's possible that cortisol production at the adrenal level is not a factor in this at all. You may just be controlling it locally with the melatonin.

I'm not sure your theories are completely sound, although I like the course they're taking. But I'm no doctor either, i'm just playing devil's advocate.

Tell me what you think.

Martin
