Re: Build a Good Alkaline Mineral Reserve First.

Sofia:

Just a little background. Before during and after the flushes, my diet consisted of more than sufficient food considered to be high in alkalizing minerals. I am talking about apricots, figs, dates, raisins, tons of vegetables, raw foods, even greens powders. I was consuming 24+ glasses of water, I was consuming apple cider vinegar on a daily basis before, during, and after flushes, I was exercising on a regular basis. I was not consuming refined carbs, flour or lots of meats(nothing that could make me highly acidic). I was keeping the colon clean through oxy-powder, and bentonite and psyllium shakes. I heavily reviewed all posts in the liver forum before embarking on liver flush and educated myself. What I am trying to say is that there is nothing... absolutely... nothing that could account for the severe mineral depletion and resulting increase in acidity than liver flushing. Sorry, I am not saying liver flushes are bad, I will not completely stop doing them, but as far as continuing to do them in the state of acidosis that I am currently in, I think that would only further add to the mineral depletion and deficiency, make me even more acidic and possibly land me in the hospital. In fact:"...bile contains alkaline salts that are often absorbed to help maintain the proper pH of the blood (which is slightly alkaline at 7.4)..., the absorption of alkaline salts from the gallbladder is required to help bring [a higly acidic PH] the pH back into balance. When salts are removed from the bile, it becomes thicker. In turn, thicker bile makes the removal of cholesterol from the gallbladder more difficult - leading to the formation of gallstones." - Dr. David Williams, Alternatives newsletter, June 2006.

Until such time(could be 3-6 months) as my body is fully recovered and my alkanizing mineral reserve base and ph is sufficiently high, liver flushes are out of the question. I think that the problem with liver flushes is that they not only flush out toxins but also essential minerals and if you keep doing them every two weeks indefinitely, the mineral depletion will catch up with you sooner or later no matter how good your diet is because you will only by stripping your bodies minerals faster than they are being replaced. For this reason, any liver flusher who follows the "flush until your are clear mentality" is only asking for long term trouble. You may feel good now but when the effects of overdoing a liver flush will slowly creep up on you will likely begin experiencing symptoms that you never had before - that will be your major clue that you over did it with liver flushes. For me it was a sudden regular morning tightness in my calves. This was the result of too many liver flushes leeching out Magnesium out of my system. It had nothing to do with my diet since my diet was as high as could be in magnesium. Many people neglect these types of symptoms and rather than back off from flushes to allow recovery, they assume that if they do even more liver flushes that the symptoms will go away. Then, they get even sicker. Keep in mind that even the liver flush gurus like Andreas Moritz don't generally recommend more than 6-8 flushes followed by maintenance flushes twice a year. I think too many people get sucked into doing more liver flushes than they need to because they read about someone on the liver flush forum who claimed to feel like a million bucks afer doing 25+ flushes. It is almost like a competition between people as to who can do the most liver flushes and who releases the most stones and all this with total disregard of the possible long term health harm of doing too many flushes and doing them too frequently. Also keep in mind, that there are many routes to accomplishing good health besides liver flushes - liver flushes are not the be all end all for all ailments. It seems many people who are trying liver flushes are looking for a quick fix to their health problems and some may not be prepared to implement daily exercise or dietary changes that are equally important to any treatment working. Also the heavy ingestion of epsom salts every two weeks may not be all that healthy. Espom salts have traditionally been used in small amounts to treat constipation because they induce peristalsis. This peristalsis is unnatural since it is artifically induced. Inducing such false perstalsis once in a while may be fine but if you do it frequently enough you may become even more constipated as you lose your natural urge to poo and over time you could create a major potassium imbalance, and potential damage to the intestinal tract after years of heavily ingesting epsom salts in this manner. This may also explain why many liver flushers experience increasing constipation as they progress through doing more and more liver flushes.

Also, too many people focus on discharging existing liver and gallbladder stones and don't focus enough on preventing or minimizing the formation of new stones. This is where alkaline/acid rebalancing comes into play. When you're PH is sufficiently balanced you won't have a problem wiht your liver getting choked up full of liver stones that need to be discharged because you will have addressed the underlying cause of the liver stones - a imbalanced PH brought on by years of poor diet and neglect.

In life, you can take many different routes to get to the same destination. Although some of the routes may take longer than others, they may in fact be safer than others. Ever hear the story about the tortoise and the hare??
