Re: SCD diet

Thank you so much for your reply! Yes, we did SCD for 19 months. When we started this diet, I did so because my son was regressing behaviorally. His gut at that time was in pretty good shape. At first, his gut got even better, but after about 7 months, he developed reflux (which began as a cough that his doctor at the time called a "stim" and provided no help for us at all). After a few months of this getting worse and him starting to vomit on a daily basis, I figured out it was reflux! In addition to the reflux, his gut conditions went downhill and continued to get worse in spite of the diet. He lost weight and couldn't eat anything! It was then that I found our current homeopath who has helped him in so many ways. Currently, he is on an alkaline diet, which has helped improve his gut, but we still struggle with loose stools. I don't want to go back to SCD because I believe it caused some imbalances in his gut that contributed to the reflux and dysbiosis. For one thing, he ended up with way too much animal protein on SCD -- this is not only acid-forming, but causes too much ammonia in the system. I'm sure this was my fault, giving him so much protein, but the diet was so limited and he was so hungry. I came to believe that it almost takes a PhD to do SCD with everything balanced perfectly (and have a child who will eat every food that is needed to balance it).
