I agree with Ohfor07 that it might be be a good idea to try a little enema and see how that works for him. But by all means, don't use one of those chemical Fleet disposable enemas!

And Miralax is the worst thing you can give him. I totally disagree with the doctor who prescribed this for such a young child. Just do a Google search for Miralax and read some of the postings. I have posted a couple of Miralax warnings here previously and could probably find them if you are interested.

A gentle cleansing enema is the safest, most effective method to help empty his bowels, and it doesn't have to be uncomfortable for him if done properly without hurrying.

The water should be a few degrees above body temperature (103 degrees F or 39.5 C) at preparation time, and you can use either a bulb syringe or an enema bag, which ever you prefer. Stir a bar of mild soap like Ivory in the water until it appears milky, but never use liquid soap other than pre-measured castile soap packets made specifically for enema use.

A good rule of thumb is not to use more than 1 ounce of water for every 2 pounds of his body weight.
