My two and a half year old started having constipation and then ribbon-like stools during the holidays. I just thought it was from eating too much "holiday junk", but after cleaning up his diet he was still having problems and I'm trying to figure out what's going on with him. The pediatrician said it's just constipation and to just keep giving him Miralax indefinitely, that some kids "just need it." I really don't buy that. I don't know if he would have swallowed something or if there is just an impaction of fecal matter in there from being constipated and maybe the ribbons are from the softened stool being forced around it. Before putting him on the miralax we tried Fletcher's kid's laxative (Senna based) and Schulze's Intestinal formula three, but after up to eight teaspoons of the IF#3 didn't work, at my wit's end, I tried the miralax. I'm not one to use drugs, especially on my kid, so if anyone has any suggestions, I would really appreciate it. I don't know if I should request an x-ray to see if something is in there or try IF#2 or a full blown cleanse maybe, or just wait it out... He eats a mostly vegan diet and I think he's getting enough fiber. Any further suggestions would be great!
