I went to art school. I spent 3 hours a day, for 2 years, drawing a model. We learned to draw the human figure, realistically, before abstracting it.
Of course there are untrained artists, "primitive" artists, some of them more highly developed than the "trained", some not.
Just different routes to the same destination.
And I must say, that as far as "abstracting" the concept of OP goes, Trapper's been a true pioneer.

From the rest of the medical community, we get prozac, ritalin, mastectomies, chemotherapy etc., etc., etc. Who cares what they think? The sad stae of "health" suffered by most these days is because of what "they" think.
