Re: Water 101 for Dummies
I used a Pur water filter for years because that was the best I could do. I have also bought lots of bottles of distilled water in plastic jugs, not feeling completely secure, but once again, that was the best I could do. Anything is better than nothing. Stay away from plain old tap water the best you can. I believe in distilled water and a home distiller is your best bet. It does cost some up front and it does take a little time, but it is well worth it. I set my distiller just before leaving for work and again just before going to bed. Luckily my kitchen is at the back of the house and my bedroom at the front so noise was never a problem. In fact I liked the hum of the distiller, it reminded me I was doing a good thing for myself.
Another possibility for drinking and cooking water is the Culligen (sp?) machine in large supermarkets. The reverse osmosis water is very good and most places will allow you to choose your own containers like a high quality plastic or even glass.
Here is my choice for the best and healthiest water choices in a good price range:
1. Home distilled
2. Commercial distilled in safe containers
3. Commercial reverse osmosis
4. Commercial distilled in "2" containers (see bottom of jug)
5. Filtered water when filter is changed on regular basis
There are, of course. a wide variety of specialty waters and all kinds of contraptions to make special water at home, however, I have little experience with them. Most of us have to be practical and budget conscious.
