How I fixed my sinus problems.

No more chronic sinus infections!!! After decades of swollen, stuffed-up sinuses, thick yellow gunk, and miserable infections, I finally have the condition under control. I feel great!

I have found a simple, inexpensive method of irrigation that effectively treats my sinuses and either prevents or heals my sinus infections.

*** HOW I DECIDE TO IRRIGATE ***

My sinuses first get stuffy, and then I feel like I am getting a cold. Over the next few days my sinuses start closing up, and getting more congested. I get a thick yellow discharge. This condition has either led to an infection, or continued to give me misery for long periods of time, so I start a series of ‘upside down’ irrigations, in which I flood my sinuses with a therapeutic mixture.

I've irrigated many times over the past two years. The result-------- I have not had to use antibiotics in the past two years, and I have not had an untreatable infection. Every time I feel like my sinuses might be infecting, I irrigate. The irrigation, including preparation, takes 10 to 15 minutes depending upon how long I want the mixture to seep into my sinuses. Not bad to ward off infections! Every time my sinuses start to ache, I treat them. Junk comes out, and the ache goes away.

*** HOW I GET STARTED ***

I buy a plastic saline nasal spray, for about $3, and empty it. I then fill the empty saline nasal sprayer with a pinch of baking soda, a pinch of salt, 3ml to 5ml of ‘common store bought’ 3% hydrogen peroxide and 50ml filtered water. I never exceed 5ml, of 3% peroxide, to 50ml, of filtered water, or a one to ten dilution of 3% peroxide to water AT MOST!

Mixture: 3ml to 5ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide
Pinch of baking soda.
Pinch of salt.
50ml of filtered water.

Hydrogen peroxide can be very irritating to the sinuses, so I am very careful with the mixture. When I first started experimenting with the sinus irrigation, I used more than 15ml of 3% peroxide, to 50ml of water, and it really burned my sinuses and made my sinuses close up much worse on both sides, and the discomfort lasted for several days. So I never use more than one part of peroxide to 10 parts of water.

*** HOW I IRRIGATE ***

Before each irrigation, I place a towel and a tissue nearby. To do the sinus irrigation, I kneel, and place the top front portion, of my head, down onto the floor of my shower and spray the mixture into my sinuses, which are tilted upwards.

I place the top front, of my head, down on the shower floor so that my sinuses are facing somewhat upwards, and so that I don't swallow any of the mixture, and so that the mixture soaks deep into my sinuses. The more clogged my sinuses, the longer I keep my head down on the shower floor, letting the mixture seep deep into my sinuses. I shake the mixture occasionally and make sure that I spray most of it into my "upside down" sinuses. I spray it into both nostrils. When the sinus area fills up, as I spray into one nostril it comes out the other. I keep my head ‘upside down’ on the shower floor for a few minutes after the irrigation in order for the mixture to get deep into my sinuses. I try not to breath thru my nose, especially when my sinuses are flooded. I shake my head and contort my face in order to help work the mixture into the sinuses. I don’t know how much that helps, and it probably makes me look like an idiot, but who cares-----, nobody is watching! A lot of the mixture usually foams out of my sinuses, down my forehead and onto the shower floor. A little messy. I keep my eyes closed so that it doesn't drain into my eyes. ONCE MY SINUSES SEEM TO BE FLOODED, I TRY NOT TO BREATH IN THROUGH MY NOSE. THIS IS TO AVOID SUCKING THE MIXTURE INTO THE EUSTACHIAN TUBES OF MY EARS.

After the irrigation I lift my head, while it's in the shower, and let my sinuses drain into the shower. It can look pretty bloody, foamy and nasty. I then stand up and use the tissue(s) to clean my forehead, of the foam, that seeped out of my sinuses during the irrigation. (This is not something I do in front of a girlfriend, who I am trying to impress.) I don't blow my nose for a few minutes, in order to give the mixture a little longer to do its job. After that, I blow my nose.

*** WHAT I EXPERIENCE DURING AN IRRIGATION ***

Even at 3ml peroxide to 50ml water, it can burn, or sting, somewhat. Most of the time it just burns a little. But sometimes it burns quite a bit (depending upon how sensitive my sinuses are at the time). I just grit my teeth and tolerate the stinging of my sinuses, and after a while the stinging or burning starts getting better. Sometimes the irrigation causes me to sneeze. When I have to sneeze, I lift my head up, so that I will be in a more comfortable position to sneeze. Then, I continue with the irrigation, or prepare for another irrigation if I am not able to flood my sinuses with what is left in the sprayer.

The irrigation usually produces a lot of foam, especially if I use 5ml of Peroxide. Sometimes there is a mix of blood with the foam. Subsequent irrigations might produce very little foam and a lot of bloodish water. I guess it all depends upon the condition of my sinus at the time of the irrigation.

I found that there is no additional discomfort after the irrigation is over, unless I use too much peroxide. Now that my sinuses are doing so well, 5ml of peroxide to 50ml of water hardly irritates my sinuses. The discharge is still foamy, but fairly clear. I feel great!

*** MY EXPERIENCES WITH ‘UPSIDE DOWN’ IRRIGATION ***

The Irrigation is not the most pleasant experience, but it isn't too bad, and it works for me. When I first started using this type of irrigation, I gave myself several irrigations within a day, to treat a suspected infection, or to treat very irritated, swollen, or closed sinuses. Then I would repeat the irrigations over the next few days until my sinuses seemed to be responding. Then I would skip a day or two and see if my sinuses continued to do better. The number of irrigations I use is also based on the amount of garbage that needs to be flushed from my sinuses and how my sinuses feel. If the discharge is relatively clean, and my sinuses are not too bad, I limit the number of irrigations. Relatively clean, to me, means that some of the discharge is clear and some might be yellow, but it is not too thick. If my sinuses aren’t too bad, just a couple of irrigations for one or two days seems to improve the functioning of my sinuses and takes away that ‘getting a cold’ feeling.

After a series of irrigations, it still can take a few days for the sinuses to get better, but when they do, I feel great, with wide open and calm sinuses. What a great relief to not have to use antibiotics several times a year! I can now go for months without doing an irrigation, and my sinuses feel great and so do I. I didn’t realize how bad my sinus problems were making the rest of me feel.

The first few times I did this irrigation, the discharge was real nasty, but not any longer. I am guessing that a lot of junk gets stuck up into the sinuses for a long time and that the "soaking, upside down" irrigation helps to loosen most of the junk. A while ago, my sinuses were aching. I did an irrigation, and some weird junk came out and the aching went away. I used to suffer with achy sinuses for days. Now the aching stops after only one irrigation. There is a lot of junk in the air, and the nasal hairs do not keep all the junk out. When it builds up within the sinuses, it can cause discomfort. The irrigation helps to flush it out. The irrigation really works for me!

*** WHY WAS I GETTING CONSTANT INFECTIONS ***

It is my understanding that some infections can stay dormant in the sinuses for years, becoming ‘active’ infections when certain events activate them, and then going dormant again. Antibiotics never really killed my infections, it just treated the symptoms. To me, that is why my symptoms kept returning several times a year.

I also irrigate after I am around others who have colds, as insurance against getting a cold.

I wanted to share my experiences with other sufferers. Does anyone do a similar type of irrigation, or has anyone found a more effective and less messy method? This seems safe and effective for me, but I have no idea if this type of sinus irrigation would help others, or make their conditions worse. Not being a doctor, I don’t recommend this for anyone unless they check with their doctor first.

Note 1: The Sinus flooding seems safe and effective for me, but I don’t know if it would make someone else’s health better or worse. I am not a doctor. Those who want to try this procedure should check with their doctor first.

Upside down Sinus Flooding treatments have cured my Sinus infection problems

My chronic Sinus infection ( sinusitis ) problems were cured by flooding my nasal passages with peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt after first using antibiotics to get rid of my Sinus infection. I don't believe that flooding is effective against established infection, but it is effective against the germs that cause infections.

After the antibiotics got rid of my Sinus infection, it took seven months of infrequent Sinus floodings to prevent damaging germs from re-infecting the damaged areas. This allowed my injured Nasal membranes the time to heal. When nasal membranes are healthy and no longer injured they resist infection. My years of suffering with frequent Sinus infections was over.

I am Sinus infection free and have not had a Sinus infection for about five years.

I have found a simple, inexpensive way to flood and irrigate my Nasal passages with germ killing, antiseptics. It accomplishes the following goals:

It can kill germs, that it can reach, within my nasal passages.
It protects damaged nasal membranes from re-infecting, and helps to limit the areas into which germs can spread.
Note: Once the nasal membranes have healed and are healthy, they are resistant to re-infection!
It irrigates infected mucus out of my nasal areas, including around turbinates and polyps.

My decades of sinus infections, were probably located in my nasal passages and turbinates, but not within my ‘harder to reach Ethmoid, Frontal or Maxillary sinus cavities. Even if my infections had been within my sinus cavities, Sinus floodings with peroxide would still be a powerful tool to keep bacteria from spreading.

What I have learned about this natural treatment to prevent Sinus infections.

I started posting about ‘Sinus’ flooding, on the Internet, in the 4th quarter of 2003, after two years of using Sinus floodings. Since then, as a result of feedback, and my own study, I have learned quite a bit about the effectiveness of Sinus flooding.

I feel that the flooding is most effective against germs throughout the easier to reach nasal passages, including turbinates and polyps, but least effective against germs in the difficult to reach sinus cavities.

I am not a doctor, so I can only post about my own personal experiences and interactions. I don’t know if a Sinus flooding with peroxide will help others as well as it helped me, or if it will make someone else's health worse. No one should try a Sinus flooding without first checking with their doctor.

From feedback and personal experience, the following symptoms improved due to Sinus flooding.

Dark circles under the eyes.
Pain above or between the eyes
Headache pain
Swollen neck lymph nodes
Problems breathing through nose
Achy sinuses
Fatigue
Film on teeth
Brain Fog
Discolored, thick mucus
Note:Discolored, nasty, thick mucus is usually due to the buildup of bacteria in stagnant, pooling mucus, caused by swelling membranes, and polyps, as a result of allergic reactions or colds. If the Nasal Membranes are healthy and undamaged, they will resist infection from the increased bacteria.

I have read that antibiotics may kill a sinus infection, but they don't kill the germs that are within the infected mucus and debris. So, after a round of antibiotics, sinuses might be free from an active infection, but they are raw and damaged, AND surrounded by infected mucus and debris. As soon as the antibiotics are stopped, the nasty old germs, or new germs, are free to attack the exposed, injured sinus membranes, and the unfortunate sinus sufferer is headed for another miserable infection. In order to stop constant re-infections, the nasal or sinus membranes must be healthy and undamaged, so that they will resist bacterial, viral and fungal attacks.

How did I decide to do a Sinus Flooding treatment?

If any of the following symptoms:

My nasal passages got stuffy, making it hard to breath through my nose
I felt like I was getting a cold
I became VERY sensitive to smoke and other allergens
My asthma got worse
I felt Sinus pressure and pain in one or both sides
Over a few days my nasal passages continued to get more congested
I got a thicker yellow discharge
I have had thick, nasty, discolored mucus as a result of allergy problems, or colds, without having a Sinus infection. The longer my mucus remained thick and discolored, the more chances that I could get an infection. But, since my nasal membranes are healthy and undamaged, the buildup of bacteria in the thick mucus has not resulted in an infection.
My sinus discharge contained some blood.
An almost sure sign of damaged membranes, at risk for re-infection, is blood in the Sinus discharge.

These symptoms had either led to an infection, or continued to give me misery for long periods of time, so I would do a series of ‘upside down Sinus floodings’.

I've flooded my Nasal Passages about 70 times over the past five years. The result-------- I have not had to use antibiotics in the past five years. Every time I feel like my Nasal Passages might be infecting, I flood them with peroxide. The flooding, including prep, takes 15 to 20 minutes.

How I prepare a Sinus flooding to prevent re-infection

I buy a plastic 3 oz saline nasal spray for about $3. To empty, and fill again, I take the top of the sprayer between my thumb and my forefinger and firmly bend the top to the side. This lifts an edge a little bit so I can get my thumb’s fingernail underneath the lip, and twist the top off, and empty it.

I then fill up the empty saline nasal sprayer with a pinch of baking soda, a pinch of salt, and one part ‘common store bought’ 3% hydrogen peroxide and ten parts filtered water. I never exceed one part peroxide, to ten parts water! Peroxide is VERY irritating to nasal membranes. VERY! I then jam the head back down on the nasal sprayer, and make sure it fits well.

Mixture:

3% Hydrogen peroxide: One part.
Baking soda: One or two pinches.
Kosher salt or sea salt: One pinch.
I buy a cheap, salt and pepper set. I use a drill to widen the holes in the tops, and I use them to add the baking soda and kosher salt to the mixture.
Filtered water: Ten to forty times as much water as peroxide.

Hydrogen peroxide is VERY IRRITATING to the Nasal Passages, so I am VERY CAREFUL with how much peroxide I use. When I first started experimenting with the Nasal flooding, I used more than one part 3% peroxide, to ten parts water, and it really stung my Nasal Passages and made my Nasal Passages close up for several days. So I never use more than one part of peroxide to ten parts of water. NEVER!

The stinging of the peroxide seems to be worse for women. For those with sensitive Nasal areas, or those who want to start out with a milder solution, you might consider one part 3% peroxide to 40 parts water, and then increase the amount of peroxide, on subsequent floodings, as tolerated. Most of the feedback I've received from women said that one part peroxide to twenty parts water is much too strong and painful.

The Sinus Flooding process:

I place a towel and a tissue nearby and then stand over my sink and point my forehead down into my sink.
I forcefully spray the mixture into each nostril to force the antiseptic mixture around any swollen turbinates or polyps.
After my Nasal Passages fill up, additional spraying may cause the mixture to come out the other nostril.

I make sure that the container tip is firmly implanted in my nose so that it's difficult for the liquid to come back out of that nostril.
If it stings, I wait for the stinging to subside and then repeat the forceful spraying, into each nostril, until the sprayer is empty.
I keep my head down for a few minutes to let the mixture seep into all areas.
A lot of the mixture can foam out of my nostrils, down my forehead, and into the sink. A little messy. I keep my eyes closed so that it doesn't drain into my eyes.
I lift and tilt my head upwards, while it's over the sink, and let my nose drain.
The discharge can look pretty bloody, foamy and nasty. Since my nasal membranes have healed, there is much less foam and NO blood.
I then stand up and use the tissue to clean my forehead of foam and discharge.
I don't blow my nose for a few minutes.
This allows the mixture a little longer to do its job with my head in an upright position.

How I Protect My Eustachian Tubes And Middle Ear From Damage

This type of Sinus irrigation seems to be safe for me. In over 70 ‘upside down Sinus floodings’, I have not gotten any of the mixture in my Eustachian Tubes or Middle Ears. If I would try it in any other position, like on my back, I would be nervous about the mixture getting into my Eustachian Tubes. Here's why:

The Eustachian Tubes are on both sides of the throat, near the back of the throat.
They are somewhat across from the nostrils.
The Eustachian Tubes lead directly to the middle ear.
If I do a flooding incorrectly, by lying on my back, and then flood my nasal passages with peroxide, there would be a possibility that the opening to the Eustachian Tubes would be covered by the peroxide.
Any cough, swallowing, yawn or chewing action could open the Eustachian Tube and allow liquid to flow in, not only clogging up the tubes but possibly allowing liquid to flow into the middle ear, either which would cause all kinds of problems!

Someone posted that he tried the Sinus flooding on his back, in order to get the mixture deeper into other areas of his sinuses, and now has to deal with liquid in his Eustachian Tubes and middle ears. I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

In order to avoid the possibility of the peroxide mixture going into my Eustachian Tubes, and then possibly into my Middle Ears, I avoid breathing through my nose while my nasal passages are filled with liquid.

What I Experienced During My Sinus Flooding Treatments

Even diluted to one part peroxide to twenty parts water it can sting quite a bit, especially if my Nasal Passages are raw or damaged. I just grit my teeth and tolerate the stinging, and after a little while the stinging starts going away. Sometimes the flooding causes me to sneeze. When I have to sneeze, I lift my head up, so that I will be in a more comfortable position to sneeze. Then, I continue with the flooding.

The flooding used to produce a lot of foam. Sometimes there was a mix of blood with the foam. Sometimes the floodings produced very little foam and a lot of bloodish water, indicating a possible infection. Currently I get small amounts of foam and NO blood, which indicates that my nasal areas are healthy.

There was usually no additional discomfort, after a flooding, unless I used too much peroxide. Others, though, have said that they have experienced long bouts of sneezing, or feelings like they were catching a cold for up to three days after a flooding. Now that my sinuses are doing so well, one part peroxide to ten parts water hardly irritates my Nasal Passages.

What Does The Foaming Mean?

Hydrogen Peroxide will kill many types of bacterial, viral and fungal germs, all WITHOUT foaming. Peroxide DOES NOT foam when it is killing germs. Foaming mostly happens when Hydrogen Peroxide comes into contact with injuries, saliva or blood.

Injured human cells or blood cells, protect themselves, from the harsh peroxide, by producing an enzyme called catalase. Catalase converts the peroxide into pure, safe oxygen bubbles (the foam you see) and water, which can also kill germs.

Healthful, unbroken skin has little catalase, and usually doesn’t convert hydrogen peroxide into oxygen foam and water. That’s why you won’t see much foam if you pour peroxide on your unbroken skin.

Foaming means to me that the peroxide encountered injured areas in the Nasal Passages, indicating the possibility of infection or damaged membranes. The foaming of the pure oxygen, plus the antiseptic mixture, could then kill many germs within the injured areas. Repeated floodings would continue to help flush out the injured areas, and, over time, allow them to heal and prevent further damage from re-infection.

There are actually some germs which are resistant to hydrogen peroxide. So, hydrogen peroxide, and baking soda, might not always kill all of the harmful germs within the Nasal Passages. Also, depending on your doctor's advice, it might be a good idea to use a suitable antibiotic along with the ‘upside down Sinus flooding’.

If a flooding does not produce much foam, then it might not have been able to reach areas damaged by infection.

Additional Sinus Flooding Comments.

After seven months of infrequent floodings, I was able to go months without doing a flooding, probably because my nasal areas were healed and healthy and no longer prone to infection. What a great relief to not have to use antibiotics several times a year!

Until my Nasal Areas were totally healed the discharge continued to be somewhat thick and yellow, with some occasional blood. Now that my Nasal Areas are healthy the discharge is relatively clear. The exception is that, when I have an allergic reaction, or cold, my sinuses will still swell, and the discharge will be thick, nasty and discolored. But, it hasn't led to another infection.

I am sure that MILLIONS of chronic disease sufferers would benefit greatly by implementing exactly what I have learned from fighting and beating heart failure, high blood pressure and my own immune disorders for 25+ years.

So..... here is what I have learned! The three most importants things you can do is: Avoid Immune System triggers (common everyday things) that cause Immune System over-reactions; eat a healthy, balanced diet; and do plenty of physically demanding exercise!

I have purchased the device at this website and think it works great and is very simple to use. It just involves inserting the tip into each nostril, being careful not to swallow or spit while using it. The device controls the water flow which makes it even simpler. Of course, I do not have problems with serious sinus infections like you do but I think it works great for my problems. I believe it would be a great preventive maintenance at the very least. I want to try this...but a few questions first.....is filtered water the same as distilled water and I am not quite clear on the actual irrigation process...is the front of your head actually on the shower floor where you are facing the shower floor?...many thx

  I use either filtered water or distilled water.
  
  I want to get my nostrils facing upwards so that the mixture will stay in them, and be able to seep down into my nasal passages and sinus cavities. The top portion of my forehead is down on the shower floor, and not the very top of my head. My face is looking back at my waist, not facing down.

      Do you feel that the nose pipe will allow you to flood your sinuses with an anti-infective mixture of peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt?

        i read most of your messages on the board and am very found of trying h2o2.
        
        I have very often sinus infections. Also i have much nasal polypes. The doctors prescribed anitibiotica and nasonex spray. Wihile the antibiotica did not help at all. The nasonex helped as long i used it. But when stoping the situation becomed even worst. I do not even think of using such stuf anymore.
        
        Another doctor i visited let make röentgen pictures and recomended surgery of my nasal polyp. I am still thinking about. Expecialy because they told me about laser surgery wich should be effective.
        
        I felt very bad this summer. Fortuitous after some dermal problems a dermatologist prescribed me an anti-fungal therapy.
        
        An oh miracle many of my nasal problems disapeared after threatment.
        
        Now i feel much much better than last somer but stil have regularily sinus infections.
        
        Since then i am trying
        
        - nose pipe, with salt watter
        - salbei oil in my nose
        - aerosole inhalatons with prospane
        - hot air inhalatons (with device called marchal inhalator)
        - diet (no sweets)
        - negatively ionized air (ionizer on the top of my desk) )
        
        and am considering
        
        - your h2o2 irrigation technic
        - might be also with silver
        
        Do you have some idea what could help further?

        My sinuses are totally healed at present. I am getting ready to flood them with peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt, for the first time since Jan 13th, in order to clean out my nasal passages, the areas around my turbinates and hopefully some areas of my sinus cavities. To me it is great insurance against infection, and a great way to keep my sinuses functioning and clean.
        
        I feel that it took my sinuses many months to totally heal, and the only way they could heal was if I kept infections away by occasional floodings. In two+ years I've done about 50 floodings, which averages out to about 2 per month.
        
        But........ if I would come into contact with certain foods, or beer, my sinuses would plug up badly. In the past, if I would drink beer, my sinuses would plug up and I would get an infection. Now, if I drink beer, I just flood my sinuses the next day, or two. My sinuses are healed and don't infect as easily.
        
        Why am I writing this? Well..... about your own sinus infections. When your sinuses are effected by an allergic reaction, or an irritant, there is much swelling. During that swelling, the sinuses are much more prone to infect.
        
        So...... you need to, somehow, stay away from those chemicals, foods, dust, animal dander, clothing dyes, inks, smoke, etc., that might be increasing the swelling inside your nasal passages and cavities.
        
        I am not a doctor, so I am just throwing out some suggestions that have helped me.
        
        The "upside down sinus flooding", with peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt, has been a miracle for me. Somehow, someway, the anti-infective mixture got to the source of my infection problem. Were my infections within the turbinate areas, or nasal passages, or throat areas, which are easy places for the mixture to get to? Or, were my infections within the sinus cavities, which are much harder to reach? I don't know.
        
        You mentioned that you were thinking of using a silver type of nasal irrigation. My only caution there is, I have only used the combination of peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt while doing a flooding. I don't know if adding some silver product to the mix would be safe.
        
        I wish that I could tell you that the "upside down sinus flooding" would cure your sinus infection problems. I can't. I don't know where your infection problems originate. I can't guarantee that the solution wouldn't somehow get into your Eustachian Tubes. I don't know your particular physical makeup, and I am not a doctor. I use the flooding regularly, and for me it is very safe and effective.
        
        I've also received emails and posts from others who have sent me very emotional "thank you" notes, after having their sinus miseries reduced or eliminated by using the "upside down sinus flooding."
        
        If you decide to use the "upside down sinus flooding" technique, or if you have additional questions, kindly provide feedback.

On flushing your sinuses. I just joined this website, and this is and old topic, but I have several things I found out.

My Osteopath and good friend turned me on to flushing my sinuses. He sent me to the health food store to get a Netti Pot. (sp) It is designed and intended to do sinus flushing. I used to do that whenever I really had stuffy sinuses.

He also told me to use Sea Salt , not processed iodized salt. He said the Iodine will cause burning. So I did and didn't get the burning. I haven't done it with Hydogen Peroxide, but it makes sense. I bet a few drops of silver would do wonders.

Several years ago I had all the Amalgam fillings removed from my mouth. I also had all the teeth with root canals removed. My dentist said that the rootcanals harbor infrections that never go away. You can read that on Hulda Clark 's stuff, and I think also on Shultze's site. Well one of them had a puncture between the root and the sinus cavity. (there is a very thin wall between the two cavities, and if the dentist slips or goes a little too deep when he is rheaming out the root, he can go thru to the sinus. That had never healed. I actually had to go to an oral surgeon to get that cavity closed, because of the drainage from the sinus.

Since then and all the Hulda Clark liver cleanses, I have a much clearer at night. When it starts stuffing up, I know it is time for another cleanse. I haven't considered doing the flush, and that would be a lot easier, so I will try that.

You have found a very interesting method that clearly works. Now that you have gotten this far, wouldn't it be nice if you could find a simple method to prevent the problem in the first place.

  I've now been about 30 months without any viral, bacterial or fungal infection problems. I flood my sinuses with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and Kosher Salt, on average, about 2 times per month. I obviously don't have to do it too often, and it works great for me, and it doesn't cost me any money.
  
  I think that my chronic infection problems were associated with my turbinates, so the anti-infective mixture worked very well, for me, since the infected areas were fairly easy to reach.
  
  Flooding one's sinuses will not cure allergies or chemical sensitivities. For that one must make changes to their diet, lifestyle, and environment and/or get allergy shots or take acupuncture treatments.

    I am a big advocate of h202, and other oxygen therapies. I am happy this worked for you and others. I have not had bad sinus infections like it sounds like you have had. When I moved, and started getting allergies to my envirenment, I started to also get sinus infections. Actually it started after my first pregnancy.
    
    I tried several things.. Antibiotics only worked in the shortrun..and then always they came back.
    
    Finally, what I found worked for me, may sound strange. I have a "Bob Beck" electric zapper unit that works on a 9v battery. I think there are references on this site for it. Anyway, I actually stuck the two brass probes, covered with cotton sleeves that were moistened with salt water, into each nostral. Then I turned it on slowly until I can felt the zapping in my nasal passages.
    I did it about 5 minutes ...and would repeat 3 more times a day for about 2 days. This has always cured my infections. As soon as I feel one coming, I zap directly inside the nostrals. I move the probes around slightly as I zap. Sometimes I can feel it reacting with a metal retainer I have on the back of my front teeth. That is a weird sensation, but I know it is reallly getting to all areas around there.
    
    If anyone else has a zapper , and tries this, or has tried it, I would love to know how it worked for you.

Thanks for the information and inspiring story.

I have a long time congestion on the right side of my sinsuses
for geeze I don't how long, but maybe 30 or 40 years.

I think all the things I have done have kept the infection low grade as all I really experience is constant post nasal drip, throat irritation and some lung congestion due to the condition.
It does bother my sleep and is part of the cause of my sleep apnea.

I am unable to get into the shower floor upside down pose due to other structural problems, so I lay down with my head over a chiropractic pillow that makes my neck curve backward. I put your mixture in an empty tincture bottle and use the squeezer to shoot the liquid into each nostril.

This immeadiately causes flushing of the congestion and the buring sensation into the upper nose area into the sinuses all the to the back of my skull.

I am careful to not swallow and continually spit out into paper towels. I have done this twice now, 2 days in a row. The 2nd time the right side cleared up prety well into the day and falling asleep. I suspect I will have to keep at this for awhile to get the point of clearing the deepest blockage which feels like is deep in side my upper skull.

I am using a 10 to 1 mixture of water to hydrogen peroxide, but I only use about 20% of the 50ml as that feels like enough. It would take about 1/2 hour to use it all and that is a lot of flushing and spitting out.

Do you go through the entire mixture in one session?

Also I found that the 2nd day the left over mixture went flat or had no burn to it. I assume the hydrogen peroxide attacked the the salt or baking soda and lost it's killing power. So I had to make a new batch and will each time I do it.

  Just a warning though. With the back of the head down, and the nostrils facing up, the opening to the Eustachian Tubes is much more at risk of getting some of the liquid in it.
  
  That is why I put the top of my forehead down. In that position, it is much harder to get liquid into the opening to the Eustachian Tubes.
  
  The opening to the Eustachian Tubes is at the back of the throat. If the nasal areas are flooded and the back of the throat is down, and the face is up, then the openings could be "under water". To me, the only safe position to do a flooding, or any sinus irrigation, is with the face down, OR the top of the forehead down.
  
  I have also done the flooding several times with my forehead bent down over the sink, and I have had no problems with my Eustachian Tubes getting liquid into them.
  
  You might have been lucky, and not have gotten liquid in your Eustachian Tubes because you are not using much liquid, but, the only safe position to do a flooding, for me, is with the top of my forehead facing down.
  
  I hope that you are able to get control over your sinus infections, like I did!

  You beat me. I had congestion, pain, blood, swelling in my right sinuses for about 20+ years. When my sinus would get real bad, it would spread to both sides. Four main things cured my sinus problems, completely.
  
  1. I stay away from foods, chemical, dust, irritants that effect my sinuses and asthma.
  
  2. I've had Acupuncture treatment for sinuses, and I give myself electro-acupuncture treatments at home. It works!
  
  3. The "upside down sinus flooding" stopped my infections. Period! I've averaged less than two floodings per month over the past 30 months.
  
  4. I use a corticosteroid nasal spray.

  The bed is the worst place of all for allergies. Have you ever noticed the amount of dust that forms all the time all over the place. The bed is a huge dust catcher. Also, the bedding contains all kinds of dyes and chemicals which can worsen allergies. On bad allergy nights, I sleep on a leather recliner without blankets. No dust. No dyes.
  
  Do you use a fabric softener? Fabric softeners contain many nasty chemicals. If you do, it means that your skin is in contact with many chemicals all day long.

  As I said in my previous post, that might expose the openings to your Eustachian Tubes to liquid. You don't want to get liquid into those tubes. It can clog the tubes for years and cause all kinds of problems.

  Hydrogen Peroxide acts as a decongestant. Normally, the sinus swelling will reduce, but then the swelling will come back. Peroxide, baking soda and Kosher salt is a great combination. It not only kills fungal, viral or bacterial infections, it acts as a great cleaner. The important thing is to get this great anti-infective mixture to the source of the infection problems. If it doesn't get to all of the infected areas, then it will only be partially successful. That is why, when I flood my sinuses, I stay down for an extra long time and let the anti-infective mixure seep deep into my sinuses and nasal areas.

  I've never tried to do a flooding that way. I hope that it helps you. My main concern is that the Eustachian Tube openings could very easily get flooded, in that position, if you swallow, or move your jaw, or sneeze, or chew in that position.

  Yes. Sometimes I wait until my sinuses are totally flooded, and then I forcefully spray into my nostril, to drive the liquid deeper, or force the liquid into a sinus cavity. But.... I feel that I can only do that safely with the top of my forehead pointed down. When I forcefully spray the rest of the liquid, many times the liquid will come out of my other nostril.

Ive had horrible sinus infections for the last 2 years now and have reasearched and tried just about everything. Im surprised that i have not found your technique b4 in my constant online search for sinus information. About four months ago i purchased the grossman sinus irrigator and have had mild amounts of success with it. WHile it does seem to clean out my sinuses a bit it never seems to really do the trick and get rid of the infection. My main problem with my infections is that they make me dizzy and give me that "cold medicine head" light headed feeling that is hard to describe but seems to effect alot of sinus sufferers out there. I have not really had much relief from this feeling for the past two years and it has had an effect on every part of my life. While I do feel that chronic sinus infection sufferers need to confront their sinus problems on many diffrerent fronts i think that the key to relief is in some sort of irrigation. I think that your technique of irrigation maybe more successful than regular irrigation because of the "soaking" and "flooding" factor. Instead of just shooting some salt water up the nostrils and hoping it goes to the right place the flooding may let the solution work better into the sinus membranes. Infact i tried combining your trick with my usual irrigation last night and felt a little better then usual after letting the solution soak for only about 2 minutes. Im curious if you've had any experiance with the pulsating irrigators like mine. Also I would like to ask you if youve tried any other additives to your solution. Ive tried a few things but have been scared off by soem warnings ive read online. For instance i used tea tree oil for a while but read that the oil could drip into your lungs and give you pnuemonia. I also tried betadine instead of h2o2 but read it could give you kindney damage and worse that it actually kills off the cellular healing inside the sinuses. Alkalol, Grapefruit seed extract, echinachea, ive tried tons of things but i didnt see results fast enough and would always jump to my next idea. I think that it might be a good idea to start a website that logs peoples experiances with these home grown cures focusing on irragation techniques and formulas. Just an idea. I look forward to a reply...

  No, and I won't. I was really nervous, at first, about flooding my sinuses with peroxide. I had done a lot, A LOT, of research on the Internet about using peroxide in the sinuses, but I found nothing about "flooding" the sinuses with peroxide. I was worried about absorbing too much of the peroxide through the sinus membranes and I didn't know how much to use. Also, I was worried because I didn't want to make myself worse. I was also worried about getting some into my Eustachian Tubes. One day I was in so much misery that I decided to try it. I only decided to document it on the Internet after two years of floodings, when I was sure that it was working for me.
  
  As far as mixing anything else with peroxide, I even pour out the contents of the saline nasal spray, and replace it with filtered water, because I don't want to take a chance mixing peroxide with the chemicals in the saline nasal spray. I added baking soda and kosher salt to the mixture AFTER my sinus infection was cured, and after a lot of research, and have used that mixture many times.
  
  When I first started doing the "upside down sinus flooding", I used quite a bit of force to spray the mixture into my sinuses. I wanted to force the mixture into the sinus cavities. I haven't put that into the documentation because I was worried that the increased pressure could force the mixure into someone's Eustachian Tube openings. But I feel that, in my case, the added force helped.
  
  If the anti-infective mixture of peroxide, baking soda and kosher salt doesn't get to the infection, and infected material, it won't be able to work.

I have SUFFERED with all of the same sinus infection symptoms you have described for the last 20 years. I have had two nasal surgeries and have taken tons of Antibiotics . I saw a doctor on CP24 TV in Toronto suggesting the use of a peroxide / water solution for sinus infections and stumbled on your thread while researching on the internet. I used your treatment method starting in January, 2004 and it worked. I have had no more afternoon fevers, no more congestion for the last 5 months. If I feel like I am getting irritation in my sinuses, I irrigate. The first time I did it, I thought my eyeballs were going to fly out of my head. But, I stuck with it - and it works. I wish I had known about this 20 years ago. I have had several friends who have tried this with the same result - success.
