Hi everyone,
I just thought I would share some stuff with you all that I have learned since sobering up four years ago.
I was an alcoholic for many years, and finally staggered to the AA to sober up. I did it because I finally accepted that i was going to die if I didn't,not because I wanted to. I had reached my Defining Moment.
Since sobering up, I have learned about a yeast
parasite that lives inside the body called candida albicans. One of its symptoms is 'alcohol intolerence' ie alcoholism. As you all probably know, the first drink triggers the craving etc etc.
I learned that candida thrives on
Sugar carbs and alcohol. If you are a drinker, then alcohol will be its preferred food. It makes you crave, and the cravings get worse, as the candida is fed, by the alcohol, and therefore proliferates, thus causing the alcoholic to become weaker (a) from the alcohol intake and (b) from the growing candida. For the record, it is believed that as many as 80% of adults have it. Carb junkies and
Sugar junkies are likely feeding their candida cravings. Alcoholic is just another notch up the ladder for candida because it is fed even quicker by the wet stuff.
Candida lives naturally in the small intestine. After taking
Antibiotics , steroids, the contraceptive pill (and other forms of contraception), the body's natural barrier is destroyed and candida spills from the small intestine and grows through the gut, the large intestine, stomach, mouth, anus. Once out of the small intestine it matures into its mature form, which look like threads. This stuff will make you crave alcohol by the boatload to feed it. When you have had candida for sometime the threads cause holes in the intestine (termed leaky gut syndrome), which lead to all sorts of other problems (joint pain, brain fog,
food allergies ), because of the toxins and food particles leaking into the body. This is why the alcoholic likes a drink on an empty stomach, to get the 'hit'. Classic leaky gut.
If you have depression, mood swings, skin problems, period pain, joint pain, gluten/
food sensitivities , itching, brain fog (forgetfulness, lacking clarity of mind at times, or all the time), coated tongue, thrush, constipation, diarrhea (spelling?), aches and pains, bad breath, lack of energy and a whole host of other ailments like fibromyalgia, I would seriously look at the candida issue and check out whether this is your problem.
It was mine, although I once believed it was my nature that was lacking. When I sobered up and tackled my candida problem, my cravings disappeared and my nature became calm and stable.
I know it might be hard to accept that a fungal
parasite might be at the root of your alcoholism, it goes against everything the AA believe, I just ask you to check it out. It might be physical, not emotional/mental where your problem lies, and believe me, it is something that you can cure if it is the case.
If this post helps just one person I will be delighted.
