Last Saturday,May 31, 2008, a thread in MHs forum brought Doc Sutter running to defend his version of the coke liver flush. These 2 guys know each other and are friends. I thought their ideas on flushing and their knowledge of liver function might help some of us:
(MH has copy/pasted Doc's answer into a post, and talked to him in all caps)
GREETINGS,
GLAD TO SEE YOUR STOPPING IN ONCE IN AWHILE TO SEE HOW BORING IT CAN GET OVER HERE!!!
Ahhhh Barefoot, you don''t understand how sick I was, how desparate I was. I did my first flush in Jan 94. I got it from Richard Schulze and Sam Bisor. It was the only one available at the time. And it worked, passed hundreds of little green stones. Also made me sicker than hell for a good two weeks.
MY WIFE HAD GALLSTONE ATTACKS 12 YEARS AGO AND TRIED THE CHRISTOPHER/SHULZE METHODS AND BEGGED QUITE A FEW PEOPLE IN THE FIELD OF HERBAL HEALTH FOR AN ANSWER AS WELL HER SURGEON AND NOTHING WORKED, HER STONE HAD TURNED ROCK HARD AND JUST WOULD NOT FLUSH OUT. SO SHE WENT MEDICAL AND $14,000 LATER HAS NO GALLBLADDER. 2 MONTHS AFTER THE SURGERY WE DISCOVERED THE CLARK BOOK, TRIED THE EPSOMS SALTS FLUSH AND BOOM, EVERYONE HAD STONES AND MY WIFE STILL HAD THOUSANDS AND AFTER 12+ FLUSHES THE STONES GOT SMALLER AND SMALLER AS THE WORM HOLES GOT SMALLER AND SMALLER AND HER LIVER GREW "FIRM" AGAIN AND FAIRLY WELL WORM FREE. OUR LOCAL WELL KNOW NATURE DOCTOR WHO IS THE SPOKES PERSON FOR NATURE'S SUNSHINE AND TEACHER, ETC. AS WELL AS OLD PERSONAL BUDDY OF DR, JOHN R. CHRISTOPHER AND STILL ALIVE TODAY, ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO LOST HIS GALLBLADDER TO SURGERY TO HIS GREAT EMBARRASMENT AND HE IS THE ONE THAT TURNED ME ONTO THE STUDY OF LECITHIN, BECAUSE WHILE LECTURING IN GERMANY AFTER HIS SURGERY, HE ASKED A MD ABOUT IT AND FOUND OUT THEY DON'T CUT OUT THE GALLBLADDER, THEY USE LECITHIN AND I LATER FOUND THE SAME INFO IN 1930'S BLUE MEDICAL BOOKS, ETC....SO I WENT FROM A BELIEVER IN THE CHRISTOPHER/SHULZE FLUSH THAT DIDN'T WORK FOR HARD STONES TO THE CLARK EPSOMS SALTS FLUSH THAT WORKS FOR ALL, TO THE LECITHIN METHOD THAT IS CHEAP/EASY/SIMPLE AND DOES SO MUCH MORE. IT ONLY TOOK 8 YEARS TO GET TO THE LECITHIN METHOD THAT IS OLDER THAN I AM.
Tried it again in July of 94. Same thing happened. Hundreds of stones and sick for 6 weeks this time. Hmmmmmm, I wondered.
WE SEEN THAT THOSE WHO GOT SICK SEEMED TO HAVE TOO MUCH WASTE EXITING THE BLOOD STREAM INTO THE STOMACH WHICH CAUSES ANYONE TO "PUKE" AND WE USED THE CLARK IDEA OF 6 DROPS OF Lugol's IODONE WITH THE OLIVE OIL/GRAPEFRUIT AND IT SEEMED TO WORK LIKE A MIRACLE AND THE PEOPLE PUKED ALOT LESS AND WOKE UP LESS AND HAD MORE SUCCESS ON THEIR FIRST FLUSH. wE ALSO NOTED IT SEEMED LIKE NERVES OR THAT THE PERSON DIDN'T EAT ENOUGH. THE PEOPLE WHO SKIPPED BREAKFAST THAT DAY SEEMED TO GET SICK EASILY THE NIGHT OF THE FLUSH. THE SECOND FLUSH USUALLY WENT SMOOTH AND THE PERSON EXPERIENCED AND NOT FEARFUL OF WHAT WOULD HAPPEN.
Read Clarks "Cure For All Cancer" in Dec 94. She clearly states. "If doing a Liver Flush makes you sick it's a sure sign you have parasites. Two plus two equals what???
I PERSONALLY BELIEVE 100% OF ALL HUMANS ARE SERVING LUNCH 24/7 WITH FEEDING WORMS IN THEIR LIVER AND AGREE, THOSE WITH ALLOT OF WORMS CAN FEEL SICK WHEN YOU KILL THEM AND THEY DISSOLVE/ROT, ETC..
I started on her bug killer in Jan 95 and as they say "the rest is history". But I didn't know how bad I was, had no idea. I'd do the 90 day anti parasite program and feel good for a while then get sick a couple months later. By 97 I'm still playing around with these bugs. So I tripled and quadrupled the bug killers. Clarks, Awarness corps "Clear" and two rounds of Standard Processes Zymex II. Lost 22 pounds of bugs in three months. Ahhhh, my health improved by leaps and bounds after that.
CAN AGREE WITH THAT! WHEN WE START TO LIVE AND STOP FEEDING THE WORMS, WE CAN'T HELP BUT GET BETTER.
Then, then, I got sick again. About 6 months later. I knew it wasn't the bugs.
OK. I PERSNALLY BELIEVE BUGS ARE A LIFETIME PROBLEM JUST WAITING TO HAVE US FOR LUNCH THE DAY WE LET THEM.
Well, my liver was getting congested from the lymphatic debris that was being released from my lower abdomen. When a parasite attaches it anesthetizes at the site of attachment. I had 27 years of anesthetizing stuff that the lymph soaked up and stashed away. Now it was on it's way out. When it got to the liver the liver couldn't feel it or pass it so I started the Liver Flushes in earnest to keep my liver open. It worked.
YES, THE OVER WORKED LOADED LIVER THAT JUST ABOUT ALL ADULTS HAVE. I HAVE ONE OF THE WORSE CASES, VACCINATED AS A CHILD, MOUTH FULL OFMERCURY BY AGE 12, MY POLIO SHOTS, ETC., ETC. AND THEN 30 YEARS WITH LEAD/COPPER/NICKEL/ALUMINUM/ASBESTOS/OILS/SOLVENTS/LIME WATER/POP DIET/DAIRY, ETC...AS WELL AS A MOUTHFUL OF CROWNED ROOT CANALED TEETH. MAKES FOR A OVER LOADED CLOGGED LIVER AN LYMPH GLANDS MAXED OUT UNTIL YOUR SKIN LEAKS STICKY ITCHY JUICE FROM YOUR BODY AS A WAY TO SAVE YOUR LIFE AND "IF" I HADN'T DONE ALL OF THIS, I WOULD HAVE NEVER SEEKED OUT HERBS/METHODS TO HELP AND PROBABLY BE DEAD BY NOW.
The Coke Liver Flush was the only flush available that worked so that's what I went with.
LUCKILY THIS FLUSH NEVER APPEALED TO ME AND I MISSED OUT ON THAT EXPERIENCE IN LIFE AND TODAY PAST THE Liver Flush A TRUE BELIEVER IN PLANT FATS AS SUPERIOR, BUT IF A PERSON DESIRES TO DO A LIVER FLUSH, THAT IS FINE AS WELL.I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEM, BUT DON'T SEE THEM BEING EFFECTIVE PAST A FEW DAYS.
When your liver shuts down you know it. It gets serious fast. Again, you don't know how desparate I was or how sick I was. I went with what was available, with what worked.
I HAVE READ THAT 80% OF THE LIVER CAN BE NON FUNCTIONAL BEFORE WE FEEL THE RESULTS AND NATURALLY BY THEN THE OTHER ORGANS HAVE BEEN OVER WORKED AND THE ENTIRE BODY FAILING FAST.
I know Coke is bad for you. I know it disolves nails and blood stains. So what??? The coke flush kept my liver open and literally saved my life.
CAN'T ARGUE THAT. JUST LUCKY I PASSED UP THAT EXPERIENCE.
After those two flushes in 94 and after I did the 90 day Clark anti parasite regime I did indeed try her liver flush. I couldn't go through with it. To drink all the Epsom Salt closed up my throat. So I went back to the coke flush.
I AGREE THAT TAKING EPSOMS SALTS IS NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKE THE TASTE.....I HAVE READ IT WAS THE DRUG OF CHOICE WORLD WIDE IN 1911 SEEN AS A MIRACLE DRUG...AND EVEN SOME COUTRIES SUCH AS SOUTH KOREA TODAY MAKES IT ILEGAL TO POSSESS. YET IS THE USA WE USE IT COMMONLY. I NEVER LIKED IT AND HAD NO PROBLEMS GIVING IT UP AND USE LECITHIN IN PLACE OF IT. WE DID RUN INTO A FEW PEOPLE WHO HATED THE EPSOMS SALTS PART OF The Clark Flush , BUT THEY ALWAYS MANAGED TO SWALLOW IT. WE DID ASK DAVID CHRISTOPHER IN PERSON ABOUT HOW HIS DAD'S LIVR FLUSH "FAILED" TO PASS MY WIFE'S GALLSTONE AND HE 100% AGREED THAT IF WE HAD TAKEN EPSOM'S SALTS WITH THE CHRISTOPHER LIVER FLUSH, THE STONE WOULD HAVE EASILY FLUSHED OUT AND SHE COULD HAVE SAVED HER GALLBLADDER. DAVID SAID HE DOES NOT ALTER WHAT HIS DAD WROTE AND WOULDN'T SUGGEST IN BOOKS THAT PEOPLE USE THE EPSOMS SALTS.
At this time there's basically three Liver Flushes available. Clark, Moritz and the Coke flush. My experience with the Clark and Moritz flushes is NOT good. I've had the phone calls at 3 AM with the patient in the middle of a full blown gallbladder attack from doing the Clark or Moritz flush. (something stuck in the Common Bile Duct) What am I supposed to do about that??? Continue to recommend something that puts them in the hospital. They didn't go only because they knew me and trusted me. And I was the one who suggested the Clark or Moritz flush. Or at least I gave them the choice of those flushes or the Coke flush. Needless to say they've done the Coke flush ever since.
CAN'T IMAGINE HOW COKE COULD WORK, BUT SINCE I DON'T SUGGETS TO ANYONE TO DO THE FLUSH, I GUESS I WILL NEVER HAVE THE FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE/EXPERINCE BECAUSE MY GOAL IS TO NEVER DO A FLUSH THE REST OF MY LIFE.
I've never seen anything get stuck in the Common Bile Duct with the Coke flush.
I HAVE SEEN THE LARGE STONES GET STUCK IN PEOPLE AGE 70+ AND WHEN THEY HAD NO STONES APPEAR, I WOULD SUGGEST THEY DO A FLUSH AGAIN IN 3 DAYS AND WE ALWAYS SEEN A LARGE "FOOTBALL" SHAPED STONE COME OUT AND THEN BOOM, HUNDREDS OF STONES COME OUT BEHIND IT (GLAD THOSE DAYS ARE LONG GONE, I DON'T LOOK AT ANYONE'S STONE EVER AGAIN!)
I have with the Clark and Moritz flushes (NEVER KNEW HE HAD ONE, WILL NEVER TRY IT OR ANOTHER ONE).
Thus I always recommend the Coke flush. Four ounces of coke won't rot your gut out.
I KNOW PEOPLE WHO DRINK 8 CANS A DAY, I CAN'T IMAGINE THEY EVER PASSED A STONE AND WHEN THEY WENT TO DIET COKE, THEY GOT FAT AS HOGS ON IT.
It ain't in there long enough to do any damage anyway. Plus, if your systems are so damaged and broken down you can't handle four ounces of Coke don't bother with the flush - call the undertaker.
THATS TRUE, BUT SURELY THERE HAS TO BE MORE THAN JUST TAKING 4 ounces OF COKE, HECK, I WOULD EVEN DO THAT WITH NO PROBLEMS.
Diet may indeed cause stone formation in the liver but most of the time the stones are created by the liver to protect the rest of the body from the parasite waste products.
I SUGGEST THE STONE IS WASTE WHICH CAN BE A DEAD PARASITE AS WELL AS LIVE BACTERIA/VIRUSES. THE GALLBLADDER IS SUPPOSE TO CONCENTRATE THE BILE 10X AND THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE USED ON A DAILY BASIS, BUT DUE TO WRONG DIET AND POOR STOMACH FUNCTION THIS CONCENTRATED BILE DOESN'T GET USED AND DEHDRATES UNTIL IT BECOMES LIKE DOUGH AND ROLLS UP INTO FIRM BALLS THAT THEN CLOG THE GALLBLADDER DUCT AND THEN ALL THE MUD/WASTE THAT IS NORMALLY FILTERED FROM THE BLOOD STREAM THEN IS PUSHED UP INTO THE LYMPH GLANDS STARTING WITH THE CHEST/BREAST, THEN NECK, ARMS, THEN DOWN THE LEGS, KNEES, ETC...AND IDEALLY WORKS ITS WAY BACK TO THE COLON VIA THE LYMPH GLANDS.
ONLY THE LYMPH GLANDS SOON RUPTURE AND THEIR ONE WAY VALIVING FAILS AND THEN THIS ROTTEN WASTE ACCUMULATES IN THE JOINTS WHERE VIRUS/BACTERIA EATS ON IT AND ACCIDENTLY EATS AWAY THE JOINTS AS WELL, ETC...SO EVENTUALLY A PERSON'S FEET, UNDER ARMS, LUNGS, SKIN ALL EXPEL THIS EXCESSIVE WASTE AS A WAY TO SAVE OUR LIVES FROM OUR INTERNAL WASTE.
MOST OF ALL, OUR BLOOD FLOWS ON A MAGNETIC HIGHWAY WITH NO FRICTION VIA WHAT IS JUST COMMONLY CALLED CHOLESTEROL AND THIS CHOLESTEROL IS ALSO CALLED "LECITHIN" AND IT WEARS OUT AND NEEDS REPLACED IN OUR VEINS/ARTERIES/HEART/BRAIN/NERVES. ALL THIS WASTED LECITHIN IS THE BULK OF WHAT IS CALLED THE GALLSTONE AND IT NEEDS EXPELLED DOWN AND OUT THE LIVER. ONCE UP IN THE LYMPH GLANDS, IT LEADS TO WHAT WE CALL SLOW DEATH BY AGE 80. MEDICALLY THEY DISCOVERED THE LECIHIN IN SOYBEANS WOULD BE USED BY THE HUMAN BODY TO DISSOLVE LIKE MATERIAL AND AID IN THE REPLADEMENT AS WELL OF THE WORN OUT LECITHIN, THUS POSSIBLEY THE GREATEST DISCOVERY IN HUMAN HISTORY.
Ammonia being the most obvious one but also their waste causes immature cellular mitosis. A fancy way of saying the cells mulitply before mature enough to perform their normal function. Uncontrolled cell growth. Cancer anyone?? As well as encapsulating the eggs to prevent further investation.
I did two Liver Flushes before I killed the bugs.
I PERSONALLY SUGGEST ALL HUMANS ARE LOADED WITH "BUGS" THAT IN FACT, DAVID CHRISTOPHER TEACHES AT THE SCHOOL OF NATURAL HEALING THAT HUMANS MUST BE 85% BACTERIA (BUGS) OR WE WILL DIE IN OUR OWN WASTE, SO WE CAN CALL THESE 'FRIENDLY" BUGS, BUT IF THEY ARE OVER FED, THESE SAME BUGS CAN COME BACK TO KILL US CAUSING CANCERS FROM LACK OF OXYGEN. THE BIG WORMS ARE THE ORGAN EATERS AND DUE DAMAGE BY EATING US AND LAYING THOUSANDS OF EGGS AND MANY OF THESE EGGS WILL HAUNT US THE REST OF OUR LIVES AND THE LARGEST REASON TO TAKE AN ANTI-PARASITE HEERB EVERYDAY FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES, BECAUSE THESE EGGS ARE THERE AND NO ON ON THIS PLANET CAN EVER DREAM OF BEING EGG FREE. MOST PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET WILL NEVER EVER LEARN HOW TO GET A FIST FULL OF LIVER FLUKES FROM THEIR PANCREAS THAT ARE LAYING THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF EGGS DAILY THEY FREELY ENTER OUR SMALL INTESTINES 24/7 JUST WAITING FOR THE OPPORTUNE HATCHING THAT WILL ALLOW THEM TO ATTACH AND THEN EAT THEIR WAY THROUGH THE INTESTINES, ENTER THE BLOOD AND TRAVEL THROUGH OUT THE BODY. THIS IS JUST A SMALL EXAMPLE WHY I PERSONALLY BELIEVE THE PERSON THAT WISHES TO LIVE, WILL TAKE AN ANTI-PARASITE HERBS DAILY FOR LIFE, BUT YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ME EVER EXPLAIN IT THIS WAY ON THIS FORUM, BECAUSE I NEVER WANTED TO COME OVER AS SOMEONE THAT IS PUSHING HIS PRODUCT MORE THAN THE AUTHOR (CLARK) SUGGEST IN HER BOOKS.
It makes you sick - real sick. Which is not good because you're allready sick to start with. So to disolve the stones before the parasites are killed off is NOT the correct way to approach this.
THIS IS ONE POINT Hulda Clark MAKES IN HER BOOK AND I CAN'T ARGUE THAT WASTE IS WHAT THESE STONES ARE MADE OF, BUT GUESS WHAT, WHEN I GOT PAST HER BEING THE TEACHER, I SOON REALIZED THAT THESE STONES FORM 24/7 AND WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE OVER 300 LIVER FLUSHES AND DR. CLARK TOLD ME SHE DOES ONE EVERY MONTH AND EVERY MONTH YOU SEE THESE STONES........................NOW ON THE MEDICAL SIDE, WE HAVE BOOKS DATING BACK TO THE 1930'S SUGGESTING SOYBEAN LECITHIN WILL QUICKLY DISSOLVE THESE HARD STONES AND MORE RECENTALLY IN GERMANY AT LEAST ONE LADY MD TOLD THE LOCAL NATURE DOCTOR THAT SHE SUGGEST 30 LECITHN CAPSULES 3X DAILY FOR 3 DAYS TO ALL WHO ENTER THE HOSPITAL WITH GALLSTONE ATTACK AND THAT WORKS AND I FOUND VERY OLD SURGICA;L BOOKS STATEING SIMILAR RESULTS.
SO IN THEORY, DR. HULA CLARK'S THEORY HAS THE FLAW THAT OUR LYMPH GLANDS HAVE MANY pounds OF THIS MATRIAL THAT WILL EVENTUALLY END UP AS GALLSTONES, SO IF LECITHIN CAN DISSOLVE THE STONES IN 3 DAYS AND THEN WORKS ON ALL OF THE pounds OF MATERIAL IN THE ENTIRE BODY AS WELL WORK TO REPLACE THE LECTIHIN AROUND OUR NERBS AND LECITHIN THAT MAKES OUR BRAIN UP, THEN I MUST SAY : WOW!!!!!!!! AND THAT IS THE ROUTE I HAVE CHOSEN OVER ALL LIVER FLUSHES AND HAVE BEEN SATIFIED NOW FOR SOME YEARS WITH THIS THEORY.
And I have yet to see stone formation in a parasite free liver. Lymphatic debris - sure, stuff you were exposed to 20 years ago - sure, but no stones.
THE STONE FREE LIVER HAS A WORKING GALLBLADDER THAT ALLOWS THE WASTE TO EXPEL NATURALLY AS IT SHOULD AND THUS KEEP THE LIVER IN GREAT SHAPE AS WELL PROVIDE FOR BEST DIGESTION.
I know you don't agree with the Coke flush but it does work and nothing gets caught in the Common Bile Duct thereof.
ALL I DO KNOW IS THAT THE EPSOMS SALTS DOES RELAX THE PLUMBING AND MY PICTURE IN THE 108 PAGE BOOK SHOWING A STONE THE SIZE OF THE GALLBLADDER SLID OUT WITH NO PAINS/PROBLEMS AND EVEN IMPRESSED CLARK ENOUGH TO PUT MY PICTURE IN THEIR NEWS LETTER MANY YEARS AGO. I GUESS I DON'T UNDERSTAND OUR 4 OUNCES OF COKE CAN DO THIS AND IN THEORY ALL HUMANS WHO DRINK COKE ARE STONE FREE? SURELY I AM MISSING THE LARGER PART OF WHAT A COKE FLUSH MUST BE, ETC...BUT DON'T EDUCATE ME ON THE COKE METHOD, BECAUSE I WANT TO BE BEYOND ALL FLUSH METHODS AND KEEP THEM IN MY PAST.
It's not four ounces of Coke that does folks in, it's the two liters a day that rots their gut. Yes, and I have seen it kill people. Coke and Pepsi.
YES, I AS A TEEN AND YOUNG ADULT DRANK AN 8 PACK OF THE 16 oz BOTTLES OFTEN PER DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WITH CANDY/DAIRY, ETC...IT ALL ENDS UP WITH NO TEETH OR HEALTH LEFT.
When you're as desparate as I was the Coke didn't matter. Besides, it doesn't stay in the body long enough to do any harm. And I've never seen stone formation from diet. Stone formation is the response the liver does to protect the rest of the body from the poisons and eggs of the parasites. Although it may be from diet also. If that's the case, fine, disolve the stones with lecithin.
But if you disolve those stone and they have parasites and their poisons behind them, watch out, you WILL get sicker.
LETS SAY EVERY STONE HAS A DEAD PARASITE IN THE MIDDLE AS SUGGESTED BY CLARK AND THE LAYERS AROUND EACH DEAD PARASITE IS ALL THE DRUGS/POSIONS ONE HAS TAKEN IN THEIR LIFETIME AND EVERY HARMFUL ACCUMULATED WASTE PRODUCT TH BODY HAS EVER STORED....I BELIEVE HER, THIS SOUNDS POSSIBLE TO ME, ONLY I SUGGEST WE HAVE ANOTHER 5-20+ POUNDS STUFFED IN ALL OUR RUPTURED LYMPH GLANDS WAITING TO COME DOEN INTO THE LIVER AND EXIT BECAUSE THIS MATTER CAN'T EXIT OUT OUR SKIN OR BACK INTO OUR VEINS BECAUSE IT IS TOO THICK AND JUST TOXIC MUCUS/CHOLESTEROL........SO IF WE DISSOLVE 1 OUNCE OF STONES IN 3 DAYS AND ANOTHER 3 OUNCES OF STONES FORMING THE VERY NEXT WEEK, THEN I GUESS I DON'T SEE THE PROBLEM OR THE NEED OF THE FLUSHES UNLESS THE STONE IS ROCK HARD AND THE PERSON WANTS IT OUR FAST.
So I prefer and recommend the Coke flush.
OVER THE PAST 20 YEARS I HAVE LOVED/BELIEVED IN MANY METHODS AND AM WITH YOU!!! I BELIEVE WHAT I BEIEVE IN AT THE CURRENT TIME AND ALL IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS I DECIDE TO CHANGE. MAKES US ALL UNIQUE AND NO ONE KNOWS THE VERY BEST, WE ARE ALL IN SEARCH OF BETTER.
I am unconcerned with four ounces of Coke that's only in the body for a few hours having any detrimental effects on that human body.
I AGREE, 4 OUNCES OF COKE IS NOTHING FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO HANDLE.
And the possiblility of getting stones or debris caught in the Common bile duct by the other flushes outweighs the possible negative effects of the Coke.
The important thing is to get the plumbing open.
AGREE 100% AND WHY I WILL PROBABLY TAKE THE CHRISTOPHER LOWER BOWEL BALANCE HERBAL FORMULA THE REST OF MY LIFE, IT STIMULATES THE LIVER/INSTESTINES/COLON IN A WAY I BELIEVE WITH DR. CHRISTOPHER. NATURALLY IF I ATE AL RAW FRUITS AS I AND EVERY HUMAN SHOULD, I WOULD NOT NEED TO SUPPLEMENT MY ELIMINATION ORGANS, BUT BEING HUMAN, I DO IT MY WAY AND TRY TO CHEAT MY WAY AROUND NATURE.
Choose, mix or match any combination of flushes to get that done.
Doc Sutter
GREAT POST DOC, GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU!
FOLKS THIS IS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN I AND DOC SUTTER. DOC SUTTER IS PROFESSIONAL TRAINED WITH MAY YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH PERSONAL ON HANDS TREATMENTS OF PEOPLE. I ON THE OTHER HAND WAS LOOSING MY HEALTH VIA MY OWN PERSONAL DIET/HABITS AND GETTING NO AID FORM MEDICAL 33 YEARS AGO WHICH LEAD TO ME CHOOSING CHIROPRACTIC WHICH MADE ME MEDICAL/DRUG FREE AND MY SEARCHES LEAD ME TO HERBS AND METHODS SUCH AS WATER THEROPY, ETC...............AND BEING A POOR FACTORY RAT, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO KEEP BUYING HERBS AND EVENTUALLY STARTED MAKING MY OWN AND THEN SEEKED MORE AND MORE ANSWERS AND EVENTUALLY MADE HERBS MY WAY BASED ON THE BEST OF THE BEST PAST AUTHORS.
I ADMIT I ENJOY OLD MEDICAL BOOKS THE BEST, BUT THESE OLD MEDICAL BOOKS EXPLAINS HOW DRUGS/OPERATIONS FAIL AND HOW THE OLD MD USED FOODS/WATER AND EVEN SOME USED HERBS AND LEARNED THEIR CURE FOR ALL. SO I LIKE THE BEST OF THE BEST OF ANYONE THAT WROTE A BOOK THAT HAD WHAT THEY FELT WAS THE CURE.
THIS LEAD INTO BOOKS THAT AUTHORS PROCLAIMED THEY WERE OCCULT AUTHORS AND IT TOOK BE A FEW YEARS TO GET EASY WITH THAT SCARY WORD. TODAY I ONOY PREFER TO READ AN OCCULT AUTHORED BOOK AND IT IS EASY TO RECOGNIZE AN OCCULT AUTHOR IF HE OPPENLY OR KEPT IT SECRET FROM THE COMMON READER.
WHAT THIS ALL BOILS DOWN TO IS THIS:
DOC SUTTER IS PROFESSIONAL TRAINED AND THUS DESIRVES THE RECOGNITION OF THE NAME DOC. I ON THE OTHER HAND HAVE NO FORMAL TRAINING/EDUCATION IN HEALTH PAST A LITTLE DR. CHRISTOPHER SCHOOL, WHICH I ACTUALLY THINK FAILED TO CREATE WHAT PEOPLE SEE A MASTER HERBALIST SHOULD BE AND ACTUALLY THE SCHOOL TURNS OUT ROBOTS TO RESELL THEIR COMMERCIAL HERBS, ETC...I DOUBT ANYONE CALLING THEM A MASTER HERBALIST KNOWS HOW TO CURE ANYONE OF ANYTHING AND THINKS HERBS DO IT.
IN FACT, I KNOW NOTHING MORE THAN WHAT I CHOOSE TO BELIEVE THAT I READ IN OLD BOOKS! I DO NOT TALK TO PEOPLE ANYMORE THAN I HAVE TO, I TREAT NO ONE, DIAGNOSE NO ONE, SEE FEW TO DONE ABUT THEIR HEALTH ISSUES, WHILE I ASSUME DOC SUTTER HAS A LIVE OFFICE SEEING THOUSANDS OF PATIENTS. I LOOK OUT FOR MY FAMILY AND MY SELF, WHILE DOC SUTTER LOOKS OUT FOR MANY AS HIS CHOSEN PROFESSION.
IN SHORT, IF YOU WANT MEDICAL ADVICE ASK PEOPLE LIKE DOC SUTTER THAT HAS FORMAL EDUCATION AND NOT PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT CHOOSE ONLY TO BELIEVE WHAT I WANT TO BELIEVE.
I HAVE A 12TH GRADE EUCATION AND I NEVER LIKED 1 DAY OF PUBLIC SCHOOL AND BELIEVE MORE AS THE YEARS ROLL BY THAT MUCH OF THE EDUCATION FROM MY SCHOOLING WAS ALL CRAP. NATURALLY READING/WRITING/ARITHMATIC ALLOWS US TO COMMUNICATE, ETC...BUT OTHERWISE I SEE THAT WE GOT THE SHORT END OF THE STICK WHEN IT COMES TO BEING TRAINED TO DO FACTORY JOBS, ETC...WHILE BOOK SMART PEOPLE THAT OFTEN BECOME DOCTORS ARE THE ONES YOU SHOULD BE ASKING IMPORTANT QUESTIONS, BECAUSE I AM NOT GOING TO GIVE A BOOK SMART ANSWER, BUT JUST MY SIMPLE ANSWER BASED ON THE WAY I FEEL AT THE MOMENT I ANSWERED A POST AND I AM NOT ALWAYS PLEASANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO NOT HAVE THAT PROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS ALL.
I LIKE TO EXPOSE THE FAKE TEACHERS, THE ONES THAT GIVE THE COMMAN MAN THE SHAFT EVERY TURN IN LIFE, ETC... I DON'T LIKE HOW MEN WERE USED IN WAR, USED BY MANUFACTURES, USED BY GOVERNMENT, USED BY STATE/CHURCH AND TAXED TO DEATH. I LIKE FREEDOM AND I SEE THIS FREEDOM TAKEN AWAY DAILY.
I BELIEVE IN PREDESTINATION, I BELIEVE WE ARE WHAT WE BELIEVE. I BELIEVE MIS-EDUCATION TO BE A GIGANTIC ENEMY OF LONGEVITY. EDUCATION IS SO HUGE THAT WE ONLY HAVE THE CHOICES TO BELIEVE WHAT WE CHOOSE, BECAUSE THEIR IS JUST TOO MUCH EDUCATION, WE NEVER KNOW THE TOTAL TRUTH, WE MUST CHOOSE TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING AND THEN BE ABLE TO CHANGE AS WE LEARN BETTER WAYS.
I PROCLAIM TO KNOW NOTHING AND USE OLD BOOKS TO SHOW OTHERS WHAT I THINK IS GOOD MATERIAL TO LEARN FROM. I HAVE NEVER REALLY CAME UP WITH ANYTHING NEW IN HEALTH THAT HAS NOT BEEN WRITTEN ABOUT IN OUR PAST.
I AM HAPPY MAKING HERBAL PRODUCTS FOR MYSELF AND MAKING MASON $$$$$$$$ IN EXCHANGE FOR SELLING EXTRA OF WHAT I MAKE OR PURCHASE TO RESELL.
BY NOW, PEOPLE HAVE TO REALIZE WHEN I GET BORRED WITH THIS FORUM, I SHAKE THE TREE UNTIL SOMEONE COMES BACK WITH SOMETHING WE CAN ARGUE ABOUT, ETC.....I TRULY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY MORE JUST DON'T SAY "YOUR NUTTS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE I WOULD PROBABLY AGREE WITH THEM ON MANY SUBJECTS.
THE ONLY SOLUTION
READ AND READ MANY SOURCES AND LET YUR SPIRIT GUIDE YOU INTO WHAT IS PRACTICAL FOR YOU TO TRY AND THEN EXAMINE THE RESULTS AND NEVER STOP IN LIFE UNTIL YOUR SATISFIED WITH YOUR RESULTS.
IN THE CASE OF THE COKE/CHRISTOPHER/CLARK LIVER FLUSH; ALL THAT MATTERS IS IF IT WORKED FOR YOU AND YOUR SATISFIED. NOTHING ELSE MATTERS AND WHAT WE OR ANYONE SAYS SHOULD MAKE NO DIFFERANCE TO YOU, BECAUSE WE DO NOT LIVE TO SATISFY YOU, ONLY YOU DO!
TO ALL OF YOU, MANY BLESSINGS,
MH
*personal note: MH uses the word occultic to mean "secret", not in the sense of witchcraft or satanism.
Fibromyalgia wasn't a word that was unknown when i was a child in the 50s and 60s. Matter of fact, I had no idea what was wrong with me 7 yrs ago. As a child I had leg cramps that made me cry when I went to bed at night. When it was BAD, I'd go tell mama. She'd give me a Bayer asprin and tell me it was growing pains. People, I thought it was suppose hurt to grow!!! If I went to her often, she very wisely told me I was a hypochondriac. (Yeah, she also knows me as a smart mouth) Even during those young yrs, I had PROBLEMS with my bowels. I either had diarrhea or constipation most of the time. By the time I was 12, I had sinus trouble enough that I realized that my face would quit hurting if I could get my bowels to move. My method of getting rid of the headache was more of the aspirin and a laxative. At least mama did keep caroid and bile salts in the house; probably kept me from completely killing my bowel tract. Cramps so severe with my periods that started at age 10 that having babies was
I had by 2 beautiful girls by the time I was 21. That's when I got the next 2 symptoms. I thought I was sleeping light, listening for the babies. They turned 30 with me still listening for them??
I've told my mama since I was in my 20s that I felt like I was living in an old person's body. Getting out of bed in the morning was torturous ... STIFF and ACHY!!! 3 yrs ago, I realized that when I stood up, I waited a beat before I could start moving. I was only 49 yrs old!
At 42, I stood in a hospital corridor with a Dr telling me that my husband MIGHT live if they could get him to the major hospital in our area - 12 miles away. He'd vtached. I was too young to be a widow!!! He did make it to that hospital and he did live! Knowing that I had to feed him right, I started reading. He wasn't to have transfats, he wasn't to eat anything with more than 3 grams of fat.
We owned our own business, so the man saw everything I put in my mouth and I wasn't going to eat anything in front of him that he couldn't eat.
He'd also wound up with a blood clot in his heart that they told him he could expect to loose 25% efficiency of his heart. 90 days later, the cardiovascular surgeon stood looking at his radiocardiogram with his mouth hanging open LITERALLY. He said, "Mr. T, had I not done your surgery myself, I'd say that's a perfectly normally functioning heart. If you'd like I'll back up the fact that you've had a miracle."
Not only did we get a diagnosis of a miracle, but over the that year, I went from 272 pounds to 170; I just melted from eating his low fat diet.
We divorced and I slowly went back to the typical SAD diet. I never regained more than about 15 pounds back; I knew how to take it off when that happened, but my health was being shot to you-know-where by the ice cream, chocolate and chicken fat that I'd allowed new companion to reintroduce to my life. This time 2 yrs ago, food began to make me sick. My bowels were a mess!!! A year ago, I knew I wasn't digesting my food: you see whole-things-in-your-stool is a dead give away. I knew I was eating yet starving to death. I had pain that only hurt when I breathed (meaning a constant pain) from the tip of my breastbone around my bottom rib to the right side of my spine. I rubbed the tip of my breastbone so much that it was sore! My spare ribs, back and front, felt like something was trying to push them out of my body. In the back, where my spare rib goes down toward my waste, I had a lump bigger than my fist. Gallstones? I think it was more than that. Something was mighty wrong with my liver!!
Anybody that knows me well knows I have very little respect for the medical profession. That ice cream eating friend, cousin (see David L. Water, Sr here in our community) emailed me Dr Hulda Clark 's liver cleanse in late Nov last year. For Christmas, my brother gave me 2 health food store gift cards and my older child gave me Kevin's book. I felt like God had hit me with a sledgehammer. I'm going "okOkOK, God, i hear ya!!"
New Year's Eve weekend, I took the plunge. I did my first ever cleanse, Dr Clark's liver cleanse. I passed over 350 Gallstones and what's called chaff, tiny feathers and bb looking things of cholesterol. There was so much chaff in the toilet at one point I couldn't see the water in there!!!!!
Was I cured? 52 yrs of abuse is not going to be cured in one 24 hour fast and cleanse!!
I've done 9 Liver Flushes this year, every 2-4 wks. It took 5 for me to have no pain, and I was a silly woman! I ate a hotdog and order of fries! It set my back severely!!!! This health thing ab so lute ly IS about what we eat!! 4 flushes later and my liver no longer hurts, my skin has improved remarkably, I don't hesitate when I stand up any longer, I don't feel like an old woman any more!!!!!!!! yayayayaya Last night, I slept for 7 hours without waking up.
I am doing other cleanses, but slowly. I make no sense out of hitting them hard until my liver will be able to remove the toxins released.
I started on the other cleanses trying to take just 2 psyllium caps a day. Even though drinking plenty of water, it stopped me up. I tried a different fiber cleanser, same thing. Next I went with Homozon, the grandfather oxygen colon cleanser. I had to use it mildly, 1 teaspoon once a day 5 days a week. This kept things moving but it didn’t repair the bowel problems I've had all my life. In Sept I switched to a product called Lower Bowel Balance by The Barefoot Herbalist. This is help to rebuilding my digestive system. For the first time in memory, I feel peristaltic action of my bowels working.
I have completed my parasite cleanse using Barefoot's Dewormer. For 30 days, I took 1 tablespoon twice a day. Now, I use it on a weekly basis, 1 tablespoon once a week. I had seen liver flukes during flushes, so I knew I needed it. What kind of parasites did I have? Look at parasite pictures; they were in there! There’s only 2 that I’ve read about that I haven’t seen or recognized … no Tapeworms … there’s an orange worm that sick people have that are orange, no orange worms to date. For metal cleansing, I tried taking the chlorella that Kevin recommended in a newsletter, again doing it slowly. I think the recommended dosage is 6 a day; I started at 2. I eat cilantro where I can. I found some cilantro chutney last week at the health food store and had some with my dinner. Not exactly something to write home about, BUT I felt it working! I had to put the heavy metal cleansing on hold. My liver started screaming bloody murder. I’ll be doing more liver healing then continue the chlorella and cilantro. I’ll be starting back on this in the winter.
My lymph nodes just under my jawbone were HUGE, like small chicken eggs, so I knew I needed to do something. Walking helps the lymph system; it's been 100 in the sunny south, so that didn't last long. I soaked them with hot/cold packs and they responded! I'd been dry skin brushing my grandson for months. I decided to get me a brush and people, this is one of the most amazing simple things you will ever do for yourself!! In about a month, those swollen lymph nodes are down by about 1/2 and are mushy now, not hard. You have major lymph nodes around your belly button, I had what I presume was something stuck in one of those, had a burning pain and a lump. Hot baths, then splashing the area with cold water (my version of what's called a sitz bath) and gentle massage, it went away...it literally moved down until it was gone. My mission? I intend on becoming a fruitarian, the food God gives us. When I ARRIVE, I'll be eating fruit and nuts, supplementing with herbs and whole foods supplements. Goji juice is a part of my 6day a week plan. The stuff if fantastic! If I don't drink 1 oz a day, my liver knows it and complains. My only guess here is that I had inflammation from all the congestion I had in there. When I didn’t take it, I had a burning sensation under my ribs, when it got out of hand, I just added garlic and it went away.
I’m approaching the end of month 20 in this journey. I have no liver pain. I don’t remember the last time there was whole food in my toilet.

And now we come to the liver, one of my favorite organs. Certainly the heart, the brain, and the immune system get more play in the popular imagination than the liver, but that's only because the liver is so misunderstood. Next to the skin, the liver is the largest organ in the body. In many ways, it is the most important organ, and the last to be considered when it comes to health. In addition to being large, the liver is also a complicated organ involved in at least 200 separate functions. Generally speaking, the liver performs a vital role in regulating, synthesizing, storing, secreting, transforming, and breaking down many different substances in the body. In this issue, we explore the anatomy and physiology of the liver in detail from a natural health perspective, and conclude with a discussion of how the body regulates cholesterol and why statin drugs may not be all that doctors promote.
Physical facts about the liver
As I mentioned above, the liver is the heaviest and largest gland inside the body, weighing in at about 3 pounds. Only your skin (also a single functioning organ) is larger. Your liver occupies almost the entire right upper quadrant of the abdominal cavity. (Remember that in virtually all medical diagrams, right and left are reversed.) It nestles up against the diaphragm on the top and against the ribs on the right -- stretching across the body, almost touching ribs on the left. Thus, barring extreme trauma such as bullet wounds and automobile accidents (or if it is not enlarged), it is fully protected -- a testament to how important the body considers the organ.
Physically, it is divided into four lobes, a large right and a small left lobe. Nestled between those two lobes are two less easily visible lobes, the quadrate lobe sitting on top and the caudate lobe sitting just underneath and extending to the bottom of the liver.
Obviously, a three pound organ cannot just "hang" in the abdominal cavity. It needs to be secured. And in fact, it is suspended from the back of the diaphragm by two ligaments, the falciform and the suspensory ligaments. The falciform ligament in particular runs up through the entire liver, dividing the left and right lobes before attaching to the diaphragm. There is one other interesting note about the falciform ligament. The umbilical vein, when you are inside the womb, runs from the umbilical cord up between the left and right lobes of the liver. Within a week of birth, that vein is completely obliterated and replaced by the fibrous cord known as the falciform ligament.
The liver has a reserve capacity of some 50-80%. That means you can destroy up to 80 percent (and in some cases possibly even more) of the liver's function and have no demonstrable negative symptoms. And as amazing as that is, it's not the most amazing part. As I have mentioned frequently over the years when talking about detoxing the liver, the liver is one of the few human organs that can regenerate itself. It can actually regenerate (in a matter of weeks) up to an 80% loss of tissue. Once regenerated, it will fill the same space it occupied before, and will take roughly the same shape as before. And when it's done regenerating, it stops! Though it grows faster than any cancer known to man, its regeneration does not become malignant, and the liver will stop growth at approximately its normal size. This is particularly useful after trauma such as an automobile accident that has damaged part of the liver. The damaged or diseased tissue can be removed by the surgeon with no loss of liver function, and in a matter of a few weeks, the liver will have regenerated all of its lost tissue. You've gotta love this stuff!
Your liver's blood supply
Before we begin discussing the liver's blood supply, which is unique in the body, it should be noted that everything in the liver begins with the three letters "hep", as in hepatic or hepatitis.
Your liver's vascular system
The right lobe of the liver is served by the right branch of the hepatic artery (a branch of the celiac trunk). The left branch serves the left lobe. Venous drainage occurs through the inferior vena cava, which cuts across the liver from top to bottom and receives venous drainage from the hepatic veins.
So far, nothing very interesting. But dig a little deeper and we find that the liver is unique in the entire body. In fact, the liver has an entirely separate circulation system to accommodate its special needs and functions. This is called the portal system.
Hepatic portal circulation
As it turns out, all the physiology and pathology of the liver depend on this specialized circulation system. Functionally, the hepatic system is a venous system, ultimately returning used blood to the heart for reoxygenation. But unlike every other part of the venous system, it serves a second, even more important function. The portal system actually takes all of the veins that drain the organs of digestion and instead of returning their blood directly to the heart passes it through the liver.
Why?
Effectively, the portal venous system is responsible for directing blood from parts of the intestinal tract to the liver. All of the substances that you process and absorb in your small intestine must first travel to the liver for a final processing before continuing to the heart. In addition to the small intestine, the portal system also includes venous drainage from the spleen and pancreas.
So what is being processed in the liver?
Ultimately, we are talking about all of the protein, fat, and Sugar molecules broken down in your digestive tract -- and all of the vitamins and antioxidants. Every nutrient you consume flows from the intestinal tract, through the portal system, and into the liver for processing and extraction. The liver thus plays a primary role in the digestive process. Specifically, the portal vein drains the inferior mesenteric vein, the superior mesenteric vein, the splenic vein, the gastric veins, and the esophageal veins. As you can see from the diagram, all of these veins dump into one vein, the inferior vena cava, just before it enters the lower part of the liver. From there it splits into many progressively smaller veins that ultimately reach every single cell of the liver before reversing the flow and reassembling, once again, as the inferior vena cava that exits through the top of the liver on its way back to the heart.
As a side note, many drugs that are absorbed through the intestinal tract are substantially metabolized by the liver before being parceled out for general circulation. This is the primary reason that so many drugs list liver damage as a notable side effect. On the flip side of the coin, processing by the liver "inactivates" some drugs, thus they cannot be taken orally. Nitroglycerin, for example, cannot be swallowed as it would be neutralized by the liver. Thus, it is taken under the tongue and absorbed sublingually, totally bypassing the portal system and the liver. Other drugs are administered through skin patches so they can be absorbed transdermally, once again bypassing the portal system and the liver.
As mentioned above, and as befits the special function of the portal system, the inferior vena cava does not continue as an uninterrupted thoroughfare through the liver. In fact, the portal system divides into a capillary bed of ever smaller venous capillaries in the liver sinusoids (see diagram below) formed by the cells of liver. It re-forms on the other side of the sinusoids as the hepatic capillaries and veins, which drain into the vena cava. Effectively, it is a venous-capillary-to venous-capillary system.
What happens inside the liver
Okay, we've laid out the location of the liver and the unique blood supply that supports it. Now let's talk about the structures inside the liver that do the actual work.
• Liver lobules (aka hepatic lobules) are the microscopic working factories located inside the lobes of the liver.
• Sinusoids are small swellings or "plates" between hepatocytes that act like small capillaries.
• Hepatocytes are the liver cells that do all the actual work of the liver
Liver lobules
The hepatic lobule is the structural unit of the liver. It consists of a roughly hexagonal arrangement of plates of liver cells radiating outward from a central vein in the center. Each lobule is approximately one to two millimeters in diameter, with tens of thousands of lobules per liver. At the vertices of the lobule are regularly distributed "portal triads," containing a bile duct and a terminal branch of the hepatic artery and portal vein.
The lobule is composed of multiple smaller units, called acini (which are just the grouping of cells at the end of each sinusoid) and is artificially defined into three zones, with Zone I closest to the portal vein and Zone 3 closest to the hepatic venule in the center of the lobule. Organization of the functional parts of the liver into lobules and acini between the portal vein and the hepatic vein allows for an easy exchange between the blood and the liver cells and a gradual filtration of blood as it moves through the sinusoids from Zone I to Zone 3. Contrary to blood flow, bile flows in the exact opposite direction, from Zone 3 to Zone I via a separate route to the portal bile ducts.
To summarize, nutrient-rich blood enters the liver via the hepatic artery and portal vein (remember, portal venous blood is rich in nutrients.) The blood from these two sources merges as it enters the sinusoids. Blood reaches the hepatocytes by detouring through capillaries at the sinusoids, where exchanges take place. The exchanges are made as the liver requires according to what zone the blood is in -- nutrients in, waste out, alcohol removed, etc. Blood then exits the lobule via the central hepatic vein, ultimately reentering circulation through the inferior vena cava that exits through the top of the liver. Note: the depleted blood returning from the legs and lower body is not involved in this exchange. It does not enter the liver. It is not altered in any way. Only the rich venous blood from the portal system is involved with the liver exchange before returning to the heart.
Sinusoids
Sinusoids are vascular channels lined by hepatocytes. As blood flows out of the hepatic arteries and portal veins, it flows through the sinusoids for "processing" by hepatocytes before it ultimately empties out through the central vein of each lobule, the hepatic venule, from where it ultimately makes its way to the heart. In addition to normal processing by hepatocytes, liver sinusoids are equipped with Kupffer cells that literally devour foreign pathogens such as bacteria that enter the sinusoids. As a side note, Kupffer cells are particularly vulnerable to damage from alcohol.
What the liver cells actually do
The liver actually performs several hundred functions in the body. I can't cover them all in detail in this newsletter, but to summarize:
• First, and probably foremost, there's protein synthesis. The liver synthesizes proteins from amino acids. It
takes amino acids and assembles them as needed into complex proteins. It makes almost all prothrombin
and fibrinogen (clotting factors), as well as albumin, the major blood protein. It also converts forms of amino
acids from one to the other when needed for specific proteins.
• It converts toxic ammonia (from amino acid conversions) into less toxic urea (which is excreted).
• It uses amino acids and proteins for energy production or storage as fats and carbohydrates.
• It metabolizes carbohydrates (CHO).
• The liver is the storehouse of carbohydrates as glycogen (glycogenesis) and lipids (lipogenesis).
• It can rapidly break down large amounts of CHO (glycogenesis) and release it as glucose into the
bloodstream.
• It can create glucose from lactic acid (gluconeogenesis).
• It metabolizes lipids (fat).
• The liver can store fats in various forms.
• It can break down and release stored fat for extraordinary needs.
• It cleanses the blood and discharges waste products.
• The liver also excretes bilirubin, the broken-down pigments from dead red blood cells, by metabolizing it with
bile salts and excreting it through the feces. Bilirubin is what makes our feces brown. If for some reason,
bilirubin is not excreted (as in obstructive jaundice) the feces will turn clay-colored.
• It neutralizes and destroys poisons and metabolizes alcohol.
• The liver also detoxifies drugs and chemicals and virtually any toxin that enters the body. It excretes those
toxins in two ways.
• It neutralizes them and releases them into the blood, where they make their way to the kidneys and on out
through the urine.
• It dumps the toxins directly into the bile and, thence into the intestines for excretion.
• It aids the digestive process by the production of bile, which is used for the breakdown of fats in the intestinal
tract.
• It helps the body resist infections by producing immune factors and by removing bacteria from the
bloodstream.
• It converts (conjugates) vitamin isolates as found in your vitamin pills into non-toxic forms your body can
actually use -- and can then store some of those vitamins and minerals (iron and copper, for example) to be
used as needed. In fact, the liver stores all the fat-soluble vitamins (A, B12, D, E, and K, for example). Water
soluble vitamins such as vitamin C, on the other hand, are not stored in the liver and need to be taken daily, as
any excess is expelled in the urine.
• In addition, the liver is responsible for "activating" vitamin D so that your body can utilize it.
• It helps maintain the body's hormonal balance.
• It regenerates its own damaged tissue.
• And it synthesizes cholesterol from fatty acids and removes excess cholesterol from the bloodstream as
required.
Cholesterol
In previous newsletters and in Lessons from the Miracle Doctors, I've covered the range of misinformation relating to cholesterol and heart disease. In this newsletter, I want cover a different aspect of cholesterol -- how the body regulates it and, therefore, what we can do to optimize that process.
Cholesterol defined
Cholesterol is a fat soluble steroid, In fact, it is the most abundant steroid in the body. Far from being harmful, when properly regulated, it is a critically important molecule, essential in the formation of a number of key compounds, including:
• Vitamin D
• Progesterone
• Estrogen
• Testosterone
• And adrenaline
It is also essential in the formation of every cell membrane in your body, not to mention the fact that your brain is mostly made up of cholesterol -- much of it in the myelin sheaths that insulate nerve cells and in the synapses that transmit nerve impulses.
As a fat soluble molecule, cholesterol cannot easily be carried in the blood -- a water based medium. Therefore, the body converts cholesterol into water-soluble molecules known as lipoproteins so it can be transported. Lipoproteins are composed of an outer shell made from a phospholipid which renders the particle soluble in water, a core of fats (lipids) including cholesterol, and a surface protein molecule (apolipoprotein) that allows tissues to recognize and take up the particle. Lipoproteins are characterized by their density: high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL).
In simple terms, HDL lipoproteins are good for you. LDL lipoproteins "theoretically" promote arterial build up and are bad for you.
Where cholesterol comes from
Diet accounts for about 25% of the cholesterol levels in your body. Your liver synthesizes about the same amount, and the rest is synthesized in organs such as the intestines, the adrenals, and the reproductive organs. Obviously, trying to control cholesterol levels by solely changing diet will be effective only if levels are slightly out of whack. Although keep in mind, controlling diet is not just a question of regulating the cholesterol or fats that you eat; it is also a question of the soluble fiber (such as oat bran and psyllium husks) that you eat and which absorbs cholesterol and carries it out with your feces so that it never enters your bloodstream.
Unlike dietary changes, statin drugs seek to stop cholesterol formation in the liver by inhibiting a biochemical called 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase, which is required for cholesterol synthesis. Unfortunately, the reason for high cholesterol levels is only rarely due to over production in the liver; it is primarily the result of inadequate removal from the body. That means that statin drugs are not going to be the cause of the problem, but are addressing a symptom by artificially suppressing a properly functioning mechanism in the body. In scientific terms: that can't be good. We'll talk more about that later. But for now, let's talk about how your body actually regulates cholesterol levels.
As it turns out, your liver not only manufactures and secretes LDL cholesterol into the bloodstream; it also "down regulates" or removes LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream. In general terms, your liver oxidizes the cholesterol into a variety of bile acids which are then "pulled into the liver," carried into the bile ducts, and then on out through the intestines. As a side note, if the cholesterol becomes too concentrated in the bile and sits too long in the gallbladder, it can crystallize and form gallstones. (We'll talk more about Gallstones in the next issue of the newsletter.) In any case, that's the general description of the cholesterol removal process. To understand exactly what's going on here, we need to examine it in a little more detail.
As it turns out, a healthy liver has a large number of active LDL receptor sites sitting on the surface of all the liver cells. When present and functioning properly, these receptor sites are associated with the rapid removal of LDL cholesterol from the blood -- and consequentially low blood LDL cholesterol levels. So why do these sites sometimes not perform as advertised?
• Some people have an inherited genetic disorder (familial hypercholesterolemia) that causes them to be born
with either a diminished number, or even zero, LDL receptors. For those people, statin drugs are a necessity.
If the liver can never clear excess cholesterol, you have to stop production of cholesterol at its source.
• Some people, on the other hand have normal receptor sites but as the result of bad diet literally clog up their
livers so that the cholesterol cannot clear the receptors -- thus stopping the process of LDL removal. For
these people, statin drugs are probably not the best "first" option.
How many of each are we talking about? The genetic condition affects maybe one in 500 people. For everybody else, we're talking about a self inflicted condition. In other words, the vast majority of cases of high LDL cholesterol are caused by a dietary inflicted blockage of the liver's LDL clearing mechanism. In fact, blockage occurs in two distinct places in the liver. First, fatty deposits can build up in the sinusoids, which prevents the bile from entering the bile ducts and physically clearing the liver -- essentially clogging the liver. Second, and more importantly, excess dietary fats can actually cause ingested cholesterol to build up in the membranes of liver cells, thus crushing the ability of those cells to process Sterol Regulatory Binding Protein (SREBP), which as its name implies, activates the gene in the LDL receptor site to tell it to take up cholesterol from the bloodstream. This literally stops the receptor sites from functioning as receptors -- totally shutting down the flow of cholesterol through the liver and on out through the bile ducts and colon. Depending on how many liver cells are blocked, this can lead to anything from a minor rise in cholesterol levels on up to a "your doctor is screaming at you" level. In any case, the use of statin drugs does nothing to change this underlying problem. They merely force your body to work around it.
Conclusion
Before we go, a couple of notes on statin drugs. I'm not very big of them for a number of reasons, including the fact that they have all kinds of side effects. But more to the point, they do nothing to address the underlying cause of high cholesterol levels for the vast majority of people who have the problem -- the clogging of your body's self regulating mechanism. Oh, and as a minor point, the connection between cholesterol and heart disease is not necessarily as automatic as you have been led to believe. But most significantly of all, one of the side effects of statin drugs is liver failure. Now, given the understanding you now have of what has caused the problem in the first place, how much sense does it make to take a drug that potentially destroys the one mechanism in your body that actually down-regulates cholesterol?
Absolutely none! The bottom line is that unless you are one of the 1 in 500 who has a genetic problem, statin drugs should only be used as a last resort. Far better to address the source of the problem -- which we will do next issue. Specifically, we will cover:
• Liver function tests -- what they are and how to understand them
• Things that can go wrong with the liver
• The biliary tree, with emphasis on the gallbladder
• The liver/gallbladder flush

British blackcurrants have dethroned American
blueberries as the reigning "superfruit" which
can best help battle Alzheimer's, cancer, and
heart disease according to a new U.K. study.
The Scottish Crop Research Institute (SCRI) has
determined that blackcurrants contain higher levels
of antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins than
blueberries or 19 other fruits. Such high levels
of antioxidants can also help stave off diabetes,
eye strain, and other illnesses.
Besides testing blackcurrants and blueberries,
researchers examined strawberries, raspberries,
apples, blackberries, and cranberries, among other
fruits.
"From a quick overview, it is clear those with a
deep purple or red color perform particularly well,
the darker the fruit the higher the antioxidant
content," said Dr. Derek Stewart, head of the
nutrition program at SCRI.
"Blackcurrants are very dark purple in color
(purple is high on the alkaline pH scale) and
in line with these indicators, comes out top in
the majority of categories."
Stewart said that the motivation for the research
came from the huge amount of publicity surrounding
"Superfruits," coupled with the lack of consumer
knowledge of what a "Superfruit" is or what it must
contain.
"We wanted to find out which fruit came out on top,"
he said. "And blackcurrants can claim to be the
No. 1 "Superfruit."
Here is a list of some of Dr. Young's "Super pHruits"

(NaturalNews) A critical review of the role of dietary antioxidants suggests that Vitamin A and E, along with coenzyme Q10, flavonoids, and resveratrol,
show promise in extending human life. The review, which was published in
, and authored by Chong-Han (2010), examined current studies on antioxidants and their implications in the aging process with the conclusion that these
antioxidants may contribute to longevity.
Antioxidants are substances that reduce oxidative damage in cells caused by free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when the body breaks down
food or by environmental exposure like tobacco smoke and radiation. Free radicals are responsible for aging, tissue damage, and diseases like heart disease
and cancer (Medical Dictionary).
The following antioxidants reviewed by Chong-Han show promise in extending human life:
Vitamin A, also known as retinol, has been called the "anti-infective" vitamin for its role in supporting the immune system. This vitamin is essential in
protecting the retina and lens from damage generated by light and metabolism. Carotenoids, which are pre-formed vitamin A found in plants, are found to be
determinants of longevity and cancer. Supplementation of this vitamin showed improvement to lifespan in mice only when started in the beginning of life.
Best sources: Carrots, spinach, sweet potato, kale, turnips, squash, collard greens, bell peppers.
One of the most widely researched
, vitamin E is also found to extend life in mice when initiated in early years, just like vitamin A. Vitamin E may protect older healthy individuals
against atherogenesis (formation of thick plaque of cholesterol and other lipids in arterial walls), improve relearning ability, and reduce cancer
formation.
Best sources: Sunflower seeds, almonds, olives, spinach, papaya, swiss chard, mustard greens.
Coenzyme Q10 (Q10) is the only known bodily-synthesized
; thus, its toxicity rate may be less when compared with vitamins A and E supplementation. It extends life by reducing oxidative damage, thereby lowering
cardiovascular risk and inflammation. It is known to prevent photo-aging on the skin and may offer protection caused by simvastatin therapy. Q10 is the
primary homologue (feature) found in longer-living mammalian species, including human beings.
Best sources: Fish, germs of whole grains.
Flavonoids are the most common group of polyphenolic compounds in the human diet and are found mostly in plants. Green tea supplementation has been found
to protect against oxidative stress and can increase antioxidant ability in rat brain. The green tea catechin prevents damage in aging mouse brain and
liver damage in rats caused by aging and ethanol. Another flavonoid, anthocyanins, has also shown protection against vascular disease.
Best Sources: Berries, green tea, and virtually all fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices.
Resveratrol is a polyphenolic compound found in grapes, red wine, purple grape juice, peanuts, and some berries. Evidence from the "French Paradox" and
from controlled studies point to its effectiveness in extending
. It has also been associated with improved bone density, motor coordination, cardiovascular function, and in delaying cataracts. Other studies also show
that it offers protection against Alzheimer`s disease and prolongs lifespan as well as retards aging.
Best sources: Grapes, wine, peanuts, fermented soy.
Thus, to get the benefits of health and
, one`s diet should comprise plant foods and this diet should begin early in life.

Discourses On the Sober Life (How To Live 100 Years)
The following information is for education only and is not meant to diagnose, prescribe, or treat illness. It is valuable to seek the advice of an alternative health care professional before making any changes.
Eleven years ago, when I first read the book Become Younger, by Dr. Norman Walker, it transformed my life and the NEXT day I went 100% Raw and I haven't looked back since.
Similarly, a few days ago, I read another book, and I sense that my life will NEVER be the same again. I already knew about the CRUCIAL piece of information shared in this book, yet reading about someone else actually living this way and getting fantastic results was the SPARK for what feels like my next stage of transformation.
I HIGHLY recommend reading Luigi Cornaro's book, 'How to Live 100 Years'. My favorite author, Hilton Hotema, talks about Cornaro in his book, 'Man's Higher Consciousness', and I also talk about the story of Luigi in BOTH my books 'Raw Spirit' and 'Raw Success'. I just discovered that Luigi has his own book and so I ordered 50 of them for our website. The book is a quick read and is only $10.95. The English may be a bit little challenging to understand FULLY for some people, because it was originally written in the 15th Century.
For someone to live past 100 years old in 15th Century Italy was a BIG deal!!! When Luigi hit the age of 40, his doctors pretty much gave up on him and said he had very little time to live. However, Luigi outlived ALL his doctors, to the ripe age of 102. Luigi says he had a weak constitution from birth and suggests that if someone followed his way of living with a stronger constitution, they could conceivably live well over 120 years old, in robust health.
So, what is it that Luigi did to save his life and live to 102 years old?
You might be surprised to hear that Luigi did not even come close to eating 100% Raw. He actually did something which, in my opinion, is even more effective for slowing the aging process and more DIFFICULT to accomplish than eating a 100% Raw Food Diet.
Luigi Carnaro ate no more than 12 oz of food a day and drank no more than 14oz of liquid a day (I believe this doesn't include water). He CONSISTENTLY ate these seemingly miniscule amounts of food. Additionally, as the years went on, it seems that he also consistently lessened the quantity of his food intake. He states that in his later years, in a single day, he would eat one egg yolk, a couple spoonfuls of milk, a small amount of bread and no more than 14oz of wine. Keep in mind, this was in the 15th Century before standard wines and white bread came along. Wine was pretty much just straight fermented fruits, which can have a MUCH DIFFERENT affect on the body than today's standard wines. (It seems to me Luigi's 'wine' would be a kind of fermented beverage, similar perhaps to kombucha and could actually have been healthy overall for the system). Additionally, his bread was a whole food made from ancient wheat grown in mineral rich soils, rather th! an the packeted, processed shop-bought equivalents of today.
Luigi says he would ALWAYS leave the table "hungry". He would just eat REALLY SMALL AMOUNTS of food, here and there. Imagine that your entire meal was one egg yolk, and then your meal later in the day was a spoonful of milk with a couple of bites of wholefood bread and that is all that you ate in a day. It sounds kind of similar to what Ann Wigmore was doing, but she was doing this with the MOST NUTRITIOUS foods available... live Energy Soup!
Ladies and gentlemen... In my opinion, eating tiny amounts like this is the way we were designed to eat. A pattern we see over and over again is that those who have experimented a lot with fasting end up overweight further down the line, as they have taken their bodies closer to subsisting on these very small amounts, and that is most likely what the body is LONGING for. If someone in this situation is not then emotionally ready to consistently eat these small amounts, they can end up overweight and feeling 'stuck'.
Reading Luigi's book may leave you wondering what is more important for optimal health...eating a 100% Raw Food Diet or eating small quantities of food. In my opinion, if someone is going to overeat on a 100% Raw Food Diet for their entire lifetime OR eat miniscule amounts of egg yolks and whole bread consistently, I would personally choose the latter one for optimal health. The body barely has anything to process with these small amounts of nutrient-dense food and the regeneration that happens throughout the night is surely PROFOUND. Now imagine what can happen if this is done with raw foods and superfoods!!!
Eating tiny amounts was Luigi's first and most important "rule". His second habit was to only eat foods that sat well with his stomach. He states that it is crucial to eliminate the foods that do not sit well with your stomach. He also believed in the importance of clean air and getting all the sleep that the body requires. At 95 years old, Luigi excitedly stated that he slept like a baby, had all of his teeth, a full head of hair and never got sick. He shared that his voice was never so vibrant as in those latter years and he chanted his prayers in bliss and ecstasy, singing at the top of his lungs!
To me, the most INTRIGUING benefit that Luigi discusses is that when you eat this way, you can die without pain and in ease (all other extenuating circumstances aside, of course). Dying can be just like falling asleep in this state, and I TOTALLY resonate with this and believe this to be true. Since reading this book, I have been experimenting with just taking small amounts of food and feeling how it barely taxes the body. I am excited to continue experimenting with this lifestyle adjustment. It is also interesting in the book when Luigi discusses the social aspects of this lifestyle, living with everyone telling him that what he is doing is "WRONG" ;-) I can imagine...
In this day and age, considering what is available to us, I feel there should be no reason we can't live healthfully, well past 200 years old. There are so many high potent, nutrient-rich superfoods, technologies and information that we can use, catapaulting our health to the next level and beyond. I also feel that air quality is a HUGELY IMPORTANT matter to consider.
Luigi Cornaro's book inspired me immensely and showed me more of what is possible. I feel that this is the next level for long-term raw foodists to explore, for optimal health.

(NaturalNews) There is a growing body of believers, especially longevity-seeking Baby Boomers, who believe that by drastically limiting the amount of food they consume, they will slow the aging process and extend their life. It’s a radical, controversial premise; the less you eat, the longer you’ll live.
CR, calorie restriction, doesn’t mean deprivation or starvation, but it does require eating fewer calories than the body is accustomed to receiving and it flies in the face of conventional recommended daily calorie intake guidelines.
Typical diets focus on weight loss, but CR is a different kind of diet that reduces long term calorie intake and promotes the consumption of nutrient dense foods. This pursuit holds the elusive promise of lengthening the human life span, and even -- as some submit -- immortality.
There are many compelling arguments to support the longevity issue, but advocates believe that at the very least, following CR precepts will enhance your health right now by minimizing body fat, inhibiting cell mutation, lowering blood glucose levels, decreasing inflammation, activating brain-alertness, promoting deep restful sleep, increasing energy levels and creating a more youthful biological age.
Recent studies from the National Institute on Aging, Harvard University, and Washington University concur and say that a calorie restricted diet includes many benefits, one of them being extending human life. Lab studies dating back to the thirties show that mice and all sorts of laboratory critters, when placed on a severely restricted diet, lived fifty percent longer than the oldest members of their peer community.
Biosphere 2 seemed like a study out of a Science fiction novel; nevertheless it proved an unintended point. In 1991 in the Arizona desert, eight scientists sealed themselves inside an airtight terrarium to prove they could live isolated for two years in a self-sustained ecosystem. Something went terribly wrong and they realized they couldn’t grow enough food for them to survive the two years. Without Roy Walford, a UCLA pathologist and team physician, the entire team would have starved to death, but fortuitously he had been studying calorie restriction for decades and was able to parse their meager food supply thereby drastically cutting their calories for the duration of the experiment. You would think when they emerged from their habitat they would be gaunt, pasty and in need of medical help; quite the opposite. They were healthier in almost every respect than when they had sealed themselves in two years prior. Dr. Walford later wrote a book, Beyond the 120-Year Diet: How to Double Your Vital Years.
While there is no specified meal plan with CR, the recommendation is to eat twenty to thirty percent less than accepted conventional recommendations for healthy calorie intake. Sugar, saturated fats, and most dairy products are shunned. Fruits, vegetables and whole grains are the mainstay foods which make up the bulk of the diet, but savvy people already know that these particular foods are the ones hallowed as the basis of a healthy Diet anyway.
Be forewarned though lest you rush to throw everything out in your refrigerator. It has been shown that without an accompanying healthy lifestyle, including exercise in particular, strict calorie restriction can lead to loss of bone density. A one year study of 46 participants at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, conducted by Dennis T. Villareal M.D. revealed that individuals in the CR group not only lost weight, but also lost an average of 2.2% of their bone density in the lower spine, 2.2% at the hip and 2.1% at the top of the femur, all high risk areas for fracture. An article in the Archives of Internal Medicine - JAMA, states that without exercise, restricting calories may lead to bone density loss.
This would seem to be the green light; if we exercise and restrict calories maybe then we can live forever, but not so. Other studies have shown that if people with very little body fat drastically cut calories they can actually do more harm than good to their health. So, we have to count every calorie, know if our body fat is appropriate, exercise enough to keep our bones strong -- then it could be worth it.
The fountain of youth, living forever; the temptation to jump on board is tantalizing. The prudent thing to do is proceed with caution, understand the positives and negatives and keep a discerning mind. It might be wonderful to live a long life, but not if it’s one burdened by osteoporosis and fractured bones.

Drastically Reducing Calories May Lengthen Your Life
(NaturalNews) Would you adopt a nutrient-rich calorie restricted diet if it meant you could experience a three-fold reduction in mortality from age-related
diseases and possibly add 5 to 10 healthy years onto your life? Calorie Restriction is the most powerful lifestyle adaptation known to improve all key
biomarkers of degenerative aging and to extend lifespan. A reduction in daily calories of 20 to 30% is necessary to achieve the benefits that have been
shown to reverse aging, yet many people are unable to lower calories. Fortunately you can make small changes to your diet and unleash the power of natural
nutrients that mimic the effects of calorie restriction.
Genes are in control of all of the critical biological processes that we use to process food into energy. Eating significantly more food than we need to
fuel our metabolism sends a signal to our genes that initiates many of the diseases of aging we fear most. Research published in the
shows that reducing calories by around a quarter causes our survival genes to activate. Metabolic processes that promote heart disease, cancer, diabetes
and dementia are slowed or reversed in an effort to ensure we are able to reproduce.
The first and most important step on your journey toward optimal health is to cut all the processed junk food from your diet. Even if you find it difficult
to lower your caloric intake you can have a significant impact on health and longevity by improving your nutrition. Incorporate at least 10 servings of
fresh organic vegetables and greens into your daily menu and be sure to substitute them for unhealthy staples.
Sugar and fast-releasing carbohydrates have been shown to drive biological aging as they form advanced glycation end products that bind proteins and fats
into useless forms that damage health. A diet full of vegetables will provide the host of essential antioxidants and enzymes we need to help reverse the
deadly effects of poor diet. To maximize
you should aim for 80% of your diet to be from natural raw foods. Overcooking can negate many of the important health benefits and can introduce chemical
byproducts that promote cancer and heart disease.
In addition to a well balanced raw
, anti-aging experts recommend a natural cocktail of nutrients that have proven effective in mimicking the effects of a calorie restricted diet. These
super nutrients work by controlling the effects of inflammation and oxidation; they prevent cancer and stabilize blood glucose.
Resveratrol activates special proteins that regulate many factors related to our survival. This nutrient stabilizes inflammatory signaling chemicals that
are associated with cancer initiation and the development of heart
. Resveratrol demonstrates many of the same physiological benefits seen with calorie restriction.
In addition to lowering levels of systemic inflammation, quercetin is able to activate special `executioner` proteins that help eradicate cancer cells by
causing
cell death. Quercetin is also a powerful modulator of blood Sugar levels as it stimulates the proliferation of pancreatic beta cells that produce insulin.
The healing power of tea has been known for 5000 years. Research concludes that catechins from the tea family can protect cells from inflammatory damage by
regulating genetic control mechanisms.
Excess calories from a poor diet are the cause of most of the lethal diseases we encounter today. Nutrient packed raw vegetables and specially targeted
natural supplements are the key to a long and
life.

(NaturalNews) With all of the marvelous inner-workings of the herbal TCM system (traditional Chinese medicine system) and its powerful and complex systematic energy formulas for healing practically anything, it is still the longevity factors of a few single tonic herbs that amaze me the most.
Of about 9,000 TCM herbs (officially used in TCM and fully understood in their energy factors) there are about 100 that can truly contribute to a long healthy life. (These are in the "Superior Tonic Herb" classification.) About 40 of these herbs are quite remarkable in there abilities to prolong life with very little signs of ageing.
If I were to narrow it down a bit further, at least on a personal level, I would say the most important herbs for longevity would come down to about fifteen with He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) being the most important. Followed by Jiao Gu Lan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum), Go Qi Zi (Lycium), Ci Wu Jai (Siberian Ginseng Root), Ren Shen (Panax Ginseng root), Peng Da Wan (Gota Kola), Wu Wei Zi (Schizandrae), San Zhu yu (Cornus Fruit), Tien Men Dong, Yin Yang Hou and others. However many people will have different balances of yin and yang in their bodies so there is not one set group of herbs that would truly be the absolute best for everybody.
There is simply not enough room here to go into all these but below are links with photos and an in-depth look at each of these herbs.

Many of the conclusions that I have come to about these herbs as used for longevity are based on the findings and personal applications of Master Li Ching Yuen who lived to the incredible age of at least 197! (Some sources say the records show he lived to be 256 as you will read, however I personally think this is the Chinese government "pushing it" a bit but who knows!)
In 1933, newspapers all over the world reported Li Ching Yuen's death. You can read the New York Times article exactly as it appeared by going to this link: - (http://plantcures.com/Lichingyun.html) .
Modern Science has a very hard time admitting anyone ever lived past 122. This is due in part to lack of legal birth records but also, I believe, because they really do not want to admit that some very natural nutritional energy factors derived from nothing more than carefully planned eating and exercise could far surpass anything all of Science has to offer when it comes to the longevity factor.
According to all the data I could find (I have been fascinated with this and have researched this over the last 20 years or so) It seems that Li Ching Yuen consumed mostly a diet of plants and fruit. There is evidence that he ate fish sometimes and wild meat only about twice a year.
The herbs that he consumed regularly were He Shou Wu, Ginseng, and Gou Qi Zi (Wolfberries). He ate the Wolfberries raw and cooked the He Shou Wu with the Ginseng.
There is evidence that he also consumed Ping Da Wan (Gotu Kola leaves) regularly both fresh as a salad and brewed as a tea. There is even some evidence that he may have also put these four herbs (along with Dang Gui and Gan Cao (Chinese Licorice Root) in strong liquor as a tincture and drank one swallow every day.
According to Chinese records, Li Ching Yuen was born in Chyi Jiang Hsie, Szechuan province in 1677. He spent most of his life in the mountain ranges gathering herbs and learning the knowledge of longevity methods.
In 1748, when he was 71 years old, he moved to Kai Hsien to join the Chinese army as a teacher of the martial arts and as a tactical advisor.
In 1927, Li Ching Yuen was invited by General Yang Sen to visit him in Wann Hsien, Szechuan. The general was fascinated by his youthfulness, strength and prowess in spite of his extremely advanced age. His famous portrait, seen in the New York Times article, was photographed there.
Returning home, he died a year later of natural causes. Many claim that he told friends, "I have done all I have to do in this world. I will now go home," before he died and then sat back with a smile and simply died without one sign of stress.
After Li's death, General Yang Sen investigated the truth about his claimed background and age. He wrote a report that was later published. In 1933, people interviewed from his home province remembered seeing him when they were children, and that he hadn't aged much during their lifetime. Others reported that he had been friends with their grandfathers
One of his disciples, the Taiji Quan Master Da Liu told of Master Li's story: At 130 years old Master Li encountered an older hermit in the mountains who taught him Baguazhang and a set of Qigong exercises with breathing instructions, movements training coordinated with specific sounds, and dietary recommendations. (This is where he was told of the importance of eating the Go Qi Zi berry.) Da Liu reports that his master said that his longevity "is mostly due to the fact that I performed the exercises every day -- regularly, correctly, and with sincerity -- for 120 years."
While we can all greatly benefit from the herbal knowledge that Master Li has given us which can perhaps help most anyone to live a longer healthier life, I still believe the greatest wisdom that can be gained for our health's sake from this remarkable man is something he often said about living a long happy life: "Sit like a tortoise, sleep like a dog, Walk up right and sprightly like a pigeon and most importantly, always keep a quiet heart"
Rest in peace Master Li and thanks for all you taught us.

Can you optimize the function of all the systems in your body and protect yourself from nearly all the diseases of aging simply by taking a few vitamins? You can, but you need to know which vitamins to take and how they work. In this weeks UltraWellness blog Dr. Mark Hyman explains the importance of methylation, and how maximizing it can protect your health long term.
Part 1
by Tony M. IsaacsTurning the Odds for a Long, Healthy Life to Your Favor
Life is a gamble, and right now, chances are that the odds are very much stacked against you. The contamination in the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the highly processed and additive-filled foods you eat all combine to work against you. Add to that the likelihood of years of lack of proper diet and exercise, lack of proper sleep, the side-effects from taking too many medications, the failure of modern medicine to properly treat and cure disease, and perhaps even your heredity, and the odds can appear to be very long indeed. The good news is that you can turn those odds back in your favor no matter how old you are, no matter what your physical condition is, no matter what your heredity is and no matter how many years you have neglected to live a healthy life.
As anybody knows, nothing is 100%, and life is no exception. However, it is pretty easy to see that the odds are pretty strong that you will ultimately face ill health and live a shorter life than otherwise might be the case if you continue to let an unhealthy lifestyle keep stacking the deck against you. On the other hand, if you follow the advice in this simple series of articles, you can turn the odds very much in favor of living a much longer, healthier and happier life.
Before we look at how you can give yourself the best chances for good health and a long life, it would be a good idea to understand just what we have done, and what has been done to us, to cheat us out of the healthy and happy years we could have. My own education was an eye-opener and hopefully will also be one for you.
In the beginning – an eye-opening journey
Somewhere around the time I reached my mid-forties I finally began to come face to face with the reality of my own mortality. All of my friends were getting older, many of them were bothered by various health problems and several were beginning to carry around quite a little satchel filled with bottles of medications that they took daily. As for myself, I know that I seemed to look the same every day in the mirror (except for certain Mondays after I had spent the weekend acting like I still was young and immortal), but when I looked at pictures taken a decade or so ago, the difference was pretty obvious. And I knew that I wasn't quite as fast and lively as I was in my 20's and 30's. So, I reluctantly had to admit that chances were pretty good that I wasn't going to stay young and live forever, and, when I thought about all the bad habits in such areas as lifestyle, diet, exercise and sleep, I really began to be concerned about what I might be able to do to live as long and as healthy of a life as I could. I began to research health and aging, looking for ways to have more energy and vitality, live longer, and avoid or conquer the diseases and physical conditions that are common in our later years.
When I began my journey and started looking into subjects like anti-aging and disease prevention, I expected to find most of the answers I sought in modern Science and medicine. Although I had a certain amount of respect for folk medicine and the tradition of natural cures, I was pretty much one of those "real drugs for real cures" kind of people who thought that the answer to any health problem was best found in modern medical facilities and on the shelves of modern pharmacies. I thought that for the most part, folk cures and natural remedies were pretty much superstition and unsupported myth. If I became ill enough to seek help, my first and only thought was to go see a licensed modern medical doctor and get the latest wonder drug for my illness. As for so-called alternative medicines, whether it was called naturopathic, homeopathic, folk or chinese medicine, well, I gave that about as much consideration as I would snake oil or the eye of a newt, or tongue of a toad - no witches brew or old wives tales medicine for me! I found out that I was terribly mistaken!
First the bad news: our medicine has fooled us & our government has failed us
The more I checked into modern medicine, the world pharmaceutical giants and regulatory agencies like the FDA, the more worried and disillusioned I became. I wondered why the death rate of cancer and heart disease was virtually unchanged for several decades, why so many drugs were being recalled because of serious, even fatal, side effects. And I kept reading about natural remedies that seemed to be much more effective without serious side effects for many forms of cancers and other diseases when all modern medicine had to offer was long term treatments with little odds of success and horrible, debilitating side effects. Then one day I came upon the following statement from former FDA Commissioner Dr Herbert Ley:
"The thing that bugs me is that people think the FDA is protecting them. It isn't. What the FDA is doing and what the public thinks it’s doing are as different as night and day."
As if that wasn’t disturbing enough, I then read the results from one of the FDA's own studies released in December 2004 (only after a freedom of information request resulted in the study finally being released two years after it was completed). According to the study, fully two-thirds of the very scientists that the FDA used to determine if drugs were safe stated that they lacked faith in the FDA's ability to determine drug safety. And one out of five of them admitted that they had been pressured to approve drugs that they felt were unsafe. What was going on here?
The more I read and researched, the less willing I became with unquestionably trusting modern medicine and modern drugs. At the same time, I became more and more impressed with what I discovered about natural healing, herbs and supplements. In hundreds of articles, testimonials, and medical studies, I found that there are thousands of people all over the world avoiding diseases, living longer and successfully beating diseases through natural healing and alternative medicines with far fewer side effects than conventional medicine. Why, I wondered, had modern medicine not embraced this fact? Why did more people not know about this? It seemed like to me that someone should be shouting from the rooftops: “CANCER! AIDS! HEPATITIS-C! HEART DISEASE! HIGH CHOLESTEROL! STRESS! STROKE! PROSTRATE DISEASE! KIDNEY DISEASE! YOU DON’T HAVE TO DIE! YOU DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER! AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO SPEND AN ARM AND A LEG!”
Soon, the answer became all too apparent: The largest single source of funding for medical schools is the trillion dollar world pharmaceutical industry. Does anyone think that it is a coincidence that since early in the twentieth century, modern medicine has taught our physicians to treat disease by prescribing synthetic drugs – drugs made by the same people who funded their medical schools? For years modern medicine has been taught to ignore natural cures and treatments, or else taught that they such things don’t work. The FDA has been co-opted into an agency that serves primarily to protect the marketplace of the pharmaceutical industry and suppress natural competition. Diet and natural herbs and supplements were not only ignored, they were suppressed, for the very simple reason that THERE WAS NO PROFIT IN IT!
Perhaps the most striking proof is the fact that it has taken modern medicine and doctors fully 40 years to finally admit that vitamins are beneficial! Yes, for four decades, they denied the obvious and dismissed the idea of adding vitamins to our diets as worthless! Today, as nutrition and natural healing are finally gaining wider acceptance among the medical profession, the big international pharmaceutical companies are fighting back by resisting alternate cures on one hand while on the other hand spending hundreds of millions of dollars on efforts to limit public access to vitamins and supplements. Their tactics are obvious, limit the competition from natural medicine for as long as possible, and then co-opt natural alternative by restricting public access and bringing the herbs and vitamins under their control so that they can drive up the price and keep their profits growing!
As it is, no herb or natural treatment or remedy can be labeled or even advertised legally as a cure or treatment. Think in terms of cancer, for example. If someone had a herbal supplement where 90% of the patients who took it became disease free, it still cannot be labeled or advertised as a cure or even as a treatment, while a synthetic lab-created chemical that kills more people than it cures can take out full page advertisements in national magazines. And that is how the public interest is protected from all of those dangerous herbs, which result in maybe 50 deaths a year compared to 106,000 deaths per year for properly prescribed medications that can be advertised as cures and treatments. Not to mention the 2,000,000 serious drug reactions from properly prescribed medications.
We would like to think otherwise, but the almighty dollar, pound, frank, deutschemark and ruble have dictated otherwise. To the big drug companies and the doctors that prescribe their medicines, our body is their marketplace. And the only way for an industry to grow is to increase the market. That simply cannot happen if too many diseases are cured; in fact, it means just the opposite – diseases must increase! And that is just what has happened: few cures and more side effects. Cure rates for major diseases are virtually unchanged over the past 30 or more years. Depending on the source, anywhere from 50-95% of modern drugs have not only side effects, but serious side-effects.
Death from prescription drug side effects is now the fourth leading cause of death in the United States according to the medical industry itself (the AMA Journal) – and that doesn’t include deaths that are reported to be caused by the original disease that really were the result of drug side-effects, or of miss-prescribed medications that are not reported by doctors leery of malpractice suits and malpractice insurance premium increases (one survey found that only 1 in 24 doctors would voluntarily report themselves in the event of a patient dying of miss-prescribed medications). When all factors are taken into consideration, improper medical treatment and prescription drugs are considered by some authorities as actually being the second leading cause of death in our country!
Sadly, my friends, if the following applies to a treatment or medication,
1. It works.
2. It's inexpensive.
3. Few, if any, negative side effects.
4. It's not patentable
—odds are it will stay on the black list because no one is going to spend a dime to prove its effectiveness or to prescribe it. Medicine is a business. Cancer and other diseases are part of that business. The FDA serves and protects the drug companies and the AMA from anyone with an inexpensive and effective treatment for money making diseases.
At this point I should probably add that I am not one of the Conspiracy nuts who believes that all of our doctors and our governments and big medicine have joined together in a grand scheme to keep us from being healthy. In fact, I think that the big majority of doctors are dedicated, well meaning and hard working individuals. The failure of modern medicine lies in the ways that modern medicine has been taught and practiced, the way that alternative treatments and supplements have been regulated, and the way that an unhealthy amount of greed on the part of the drug companies have combined to rob us of the good health that we might otherwise have.
Then there is the environment. Ever since the industrial revolution began, we have been pouring an increasing number and amount of toxic chemicals and waste into our air, our water and our food. In the beginning, much of the fault was due to lack of knowledge of the chemicals we used as solvents, pesticides, paints, fuels and any number of other products and industrial processes. Today, that is no longer an excuse.
Despite the advances in modern Science that have identified the damage that the toxic chemicals industry and fuel burning have wreaked on our environment, the process to clean up the environment is woefully slow and industry resists costly expenses to clean up at every step of the way, while the government is often all too willing to drag it’s feet and backtrack in enforcing or passing regulations to protect us. The well-heeled propaganda machine that serves industry and the politicians their money contributes generously to may paint environmentalist as “tree huggers” and radicals, but the scientific evidence is indisputable: the progress of industry has come at a huge cost to the public.
Today, the National Toxicology Program (NTP), part of the National Institutes of Health, lists 246 agents in our environment which are either known to cause cancer or reasonably expected to cause cancer, and many feel that the number is tremendously overstated. For example, the Health Science Institute tells us that the average glass of water contains 2000 carcinogens. And no matter which side of the environmental fence you may be on, no one who hasn’t lived with their head in the sand, is not aware of the lead, arsenic and mercury that that has been pouring into our environment for over a century now.
Next, we have to factor in the fact that over-farming and widespread use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers have made the food we eat today much less healthy than it was only a couple of generations ago. The same is true for the foods we buy off the shelf in our local grocers. Over-processing has removed much of the nutrients while harmful ingredients have been added to increase shelf life and enhance flavor and texture. Combined with America’s love for fast food, our diet can no longer be counted on to come anywhere close to giving us all the vitamins and nutrients that we evolved to require, much less the ones needed to offset the damages caused by pollution, additives and the sheer stress of modern life.
With so much bad news, is there hope? Fortunately, that answer is a resounding YES!
And then the good news - It’s never too late!
When you look at someone and say “Doesn’t he or she look young for their age”, or you remark that someone “sure has a lot of energy for their age”, what you are really seeing is someone who looks, acts and feels a lot closer to what they should for their age than you do. Whether they were blessed with good genetics, or more likely, have taken better care of themselves, the real question is: how do you acquire the kind of health and vitality and become the kind of person that people say the same things about. And, most importantly, is it too late?
The good news is that it is NOT too late - no matter what your age may be. Recent studies have shown conclusively that people in their 40’s, 50’s, and 60’s can change their diet and lifestyle and undo most of the damage that a lifetime of neglect has caused. That’s right, a person who is obese, sedentary, has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoker’s lungs, and other health problems can essentially reverse those problems if they take action NOW and virtually catch up to the same health and vitality of a person who has spent their entire life eating right, exercising and living a healthy lifestyle! Even people in their 70’s, 80’s and beyond can add quality years to their lives by changing their diets and exercise. The key is, no matter what your age, you should take action NOW, because a neglected body in poor shape is a ticking time bomb that you want to defuse before it really is too late. So, with everything to gain and nothing to lose, let’s get started!
Boiling, Baking (low temperature), poaching, steaming & roasting (low temperature keeps more of the good vitamins, nutrients, phytochemicals and so forth; heat destroys the nutrients in food and can cause the formation of harmful substances
Keep and use fruit and vegetable broth left over from cooking (that’s where a lot of the vitamins and good stuff goes)
Get a juicer! Use it for fruits & vegetables (fruit and vegetable juice in big quantities are some of the healthiest things you can consume)
Eat smaller meals with healthy snacks such as nuts, vegetable and fruits between meals (helps you maintain a constant energy level and avoid overeating)
Drink filtered or reverse-osmosis distilled water only, and drink plenty of it, but avoid tap water! (the average municipal water supply has trace amounts of over 2,000 bad chemicals, including pesticide, solvents and carcinogens)
Garlic—preferably 3 cloves of raw garlic every day! (Garlic, long recognized as a natural broad spectrum antibiotic, is also a potent and proven natural cancer preventative and it is the natural enemy of cholesterol as well because it prevents cholesterol from sticking to the sides of our arteries)
Turmeric (or curcumin) (This is one of the really important ones! A highly potent cancer fighter that recent tests have indicated protects cigarette smokers from developing cancer, it has also been reported recently to not only prevent Alzheimer’s but even reverse it! Turmeric, a member of the ginger family, contains a variety of bioactive substances called curcuminoids. The curry spice turmeric is also found in yellow mustard. The most active component is curcumin, an orange-yellow volatile oil that includes three curcuminoids–turmerone, atlantone, and zingiberone. Research shows that turmeric and its curcuminoids have a number of beneficial properties: (1) good antioxidant activity, comparing well with vitamin C, vitamin E, and superoxide dismutase; (2) anti-inflammatory activity that is comparable to steroidal and nonsteroidal drugs; (3) anticancer properties influencing all the steps of cancer formation: initiation, promotion, and progression; (4) protects the cardiovascular system by lowering serum cholesterol and inhibiting platelet aggregation; (5) protects the liver by several mechanisms; (6) in vitro and in vivo studies show curcuminoids can help with HIV in a number of ways, including acting as biological response modifiers, resulting in significant increases in CD-4 and CD-8 counts. Supplementation may prevent, or be helpful with, the following conditions: Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS, HIV), Aging, Asthma, Atherosclerosis (heart disease), Cancer, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cataracts, Immuno- Depression (immune function), Inflammation (including bursitis), Peptic Ulcers and Rheumatoid Arthritis .)
Cayenne Pepper, Ginger & Sage (all potent cancer fighters. Cayenne pepper also promotes cardiovascular health, helps cure stomach ulcers, and a tincture of cayenne pepper can stop a heart attack in three minutes or less. Ginger also enhances circulation and acts as a catalyst for other herbs, to increase their effectiveness and it helps the body relieve congestion.)
Broccoli and other Cruciferous Vegetables (cauliflower, cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower, horseradish, turnips, radishes, wassabi, and kale, etc. One prominent researcher said “If broccoli were a drug, it would be worth billions!” Broccoli boosts your immune system, reduces the incidence of cataracts, builds bones, and fights birth defects and heart disease, and, like other cruciferous vegetables, helps ward off various cancers such as stomach, colon, breast, etc.)
Apple Cider Vinegar (Truly one of nature’s miracle substances, use of apple cider vinegar for medicinal purposes has been traced back as far as 3000 BC, and was used by Hippocrates, the Babylonians, Julius Caesar’s armies, Christopher Columbus’s crewmen, and ancient Samurai Soldiers to ward off disease and keep strong and fit. Be sure to use only natural non-distilled apple cider vinegar available at most health food stores – the kind you find on grocer’s shelves has been distilled to remove the natural cloudy appearance and has had most of the healthy live-giving enzymes, acids and trace minerals removed. If you do not have cancer, mix a teaspoon of organic locally produced honey with two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar three times a day. After a few months of regular use, you should notice improved health and vigor and the elimination of stiffness and joint pain.
Tomatoes (Excellent source of lycopene. Tomatoes and tomato products lower cancer risk, increase your skin's sun-protection factor, and play a role in preventing cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Eat one tomato a day. tomato sauce is great, the more the better, just avoid ones with added sugar. Tomatoes combined with broccoli enhance the effect of both vegetables! Don't like tomatoes? Try watermelon, persimmons, or pink grapefruit instead.)
Green Tea (or black) (enhances health – especially cardiovascular health, boosts the immune system, prevents cancer, restricts bad cholesterol, controls high blood pressure, suppresses aging and more. Drink at least one cup a day.)
Shitake Mushrooms (lowers cholesterol and improves immune system function, good for preventing high blood pressure and heart disease, for controlling cholesterol level, building resistance against viruses, and fighting diseases such as AIDS/HIV and cancers. Often available fresh, Shitake mushrooms are very flavorful when used in cooking! If you cannot find fresh, available as a supplement also.)
Maitaike Mushrooms (high in nutrients including Vitamins B-2, C, D, niacin, magnesium, potassium, fiber, and amino acids, contains the polysaccharide compound beta-1.6-glucan which naturally stimulates the immune system and lowers blood pressure. Beneficial for obesity and diabetic patients, the Maitake mushroom may be best known for its cancer fighting ability. Tests in mice prove that it blocks tumor formation and boosts the immune system. Available fresh or as supplement))
Reishi Mushrooms (The Reishi mushroom can increase the production of interleukin1 and 2, resulting in inhibition of tumor growth. Studies show that Reishi can have a number of other positive effects on the body such as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-viral (through its interferon production), lowers blood pressure. It also acts as a cardiotonic by lowering serum and increasing the production of interleukin 1 and 2, which results in inhibition of tumor cholesterol, expectorant, anti-tissue, liver protecting and detoxifying, protection against ionizing radiation, antibacterial, and anti-HIV activity. Available fresh or as supplement)
Grapefruit (Be careful on this one if you take any prescription medications!) Grapefruit helps keep weight down and is a good source of vitamin c and lycopene; however unique among fruits, grapefruit (and possibly grapefruit hybrids like the tangelo) interfere with stomach enzymes that break down certain drugs and may result in higher blood levels of the drugs than desired.
Grapefruit Cautions:
Drugs that are known to have potentially serious interactions with grapefruit products include: Anti-seizure drugs such as carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Tegretol) Antidepressants such as buspirone (BuSpar), clomipramine (Anafranil) and sertraline (Zoloft) Benzodiazepines such as diazepam (Valium) and triazolam (Halcion) Calcium channel blockers such as felodipine (Plendil), nifedipine (Adalat, Procardia, nimodipine (Nimotop), nisoldipine (Sular) and possibly verapamil (Isoptin, Verelan) Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) protease inhibitors such as saquinavir (Fortovase, Invirase) and indinavir (Crixivan) HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors such as simvastatin (Zocor), lovastatin (Mevacor) and atorvastatin (Lipitor) Immunosuppressant drugs such as cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), tacrolimus (Prograf) and sirolimus (Rapamune) Antiarrhythmic drugs such as amiodarone (Cordarone)
Note: Even waiting to take these medications up to 24 hours after you drink grapefruit juice doesn't prevent an interaction. The best advice is to avoid grapefruit products if you take any of those drugs, unless your doctor or pharmacist approves.)
Omega-3 fats (found in fish oil, particularly cod liver oil, Omega 3 fats are not produced by the body, but are essential for good health. Lowers cholesterol, helps control blood pressure, and has strong anti-cancer properties)
Dark Green Vegetables (especially spinach, and other dark greens such as mustard greens, collard greens and turnip greens. Good source of calcium, lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases, a variety of cancers, age-related macular degeneration, and cataracts)
Healthy Oils - Olive oil, hemp oil, pumpkin oil, sesame oil, coconut oil and palm oil - preferably first press cold-pressed organic versions in dark bottles. Other cooking oils are unhealthy. Mediterranean men are 10 times less likely to die of heart disease and that is attributable to the fact that they use mostly olive oil instead of other cooking oils, and they use other oils in salad dressings and instead of butter or margarine. Olive oil reduces cholesterol levels, protects against cancer, is full of vitamin E, and beautifies skin, hair, nails. Coconut oil is one of the most healthy oils on the planet and Palm Oil is loaded with anti-oxidants and carotinoids.)
Almonds (Eat 6 or more every day! Anti-cancer, a leading source of vitamin E and magnesium and offers protein, fiber, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron in 246 calories. As an added bonus, almonds and other nuts contain phytochemicals, which are plant chemicals that may provide powerful protection against heart disease, stroke, and other chronic disease. In addition, almonds contain an antioxidant compound called ellagic acid that supports the immune system and appears to have several anticancer properties..)
Walnuts (an excellent source of omega-3 essential fatty acids, walnuts' concentration of omega-3s - a quarter-cup provides 90.8% of the daily value for these essential fats - has many potential health benefits ranging from cardiovascular protection, to the promotion of better cognitive function, to anti-inflammatory benefits helpful in asthma, Rheumatoid Arthritis , and inflammatory skin diseases such as eczema and Psoriasis Also a good source of ellagic acid.)
Flaxseeds (Best when ground, flaxseeds are even more beneficial than flaxseed oil, because flaxseeds contain the lignans and fiber that is removed in making the oil. Good source of omega-3s,lowers cholesterol, helps keep the colon clean, regulates blood Sugar and anti-cancer, especially breast and prostrate cancer)
Flaxseed Oil Mixed with Cottage Cheese (flaxseed oil mixed together with cottage cheese has been successfully used to prevent, treat and cure cancers, even inoperable “hopeless” ones, for many years by multiple Nobel prize nominee, German biochemist and research scientist, Dr. Johanna Budwig, whose work followed up on the work of two previous Nobel laureates)
Blueberries (They lower the risk of heart disease and cancer and help maintain youthful, healthy skin. Eat 1 to 2 cups a day. When they aren't in season, eat cranberries, raspberries, strawberries, cherries, currants, and purple grapes.)
Other vegetables (such as asparagus, escarole, avocado - actually a fruit, fennel. beet greens, green and red cabbage, bok choy, kohlrabi, brussel's sprouts, romaine, red leaf, & green leaf lettuce, mustard greens, celery. onions , chicory, parsley, chinese cabbage, red, green, yellow and hot peppers, chives, collard greens, turnips, turnip greens, dandelion greens, endive, zucchini and summer squash)
Beans, Lentils & Chickpeas (as long as you don’t have an insulin problem – the signs of which are excess weight, obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Beans lower cholesterol, fight heart disease, stabilize blood sugar, reduce obesity, lessen cancer risk, and relieve hypertension. One California study showed that those who ate beans weekly were 40 percent less likely to die those who ate them less than once a weak.--Eat four 1/2-cup servings a week.)
Pomegranate Juice (Higher in anti-oxidants than any other common fruit juice. Contains a very high concentration of the potent cancer-fighter ellagic acid. According to research presented in May 2005 to the American Urological Association, eight ounces of pomegranate juice had significant anti-cancer effects on prostrate cancer patients. Other recent studies suggest that pomegranate juice helps prevent hardening of the arteries and even reverses heart disease.)
Oranges and Tangerines (They support heart health while preventing cancer, stroke, diabetes, and other chronic ailments. Eat one a day. Want more variety? Try lemons, grapefruit, kumquats, or limes.)
Dark Grapes (Contains resveratrol, the potent anti-cancer and anti-aging ingredient found in red wine, effective with leukemia, melanoma, pancreatic, esophageal, breast, lung, colon, prostate, squamous cell, liver cancer and others. Grape leaves are supposed to contain 100 times the resveratol as grapes.)
Black Cherries & tart cherries (contain the antioxidant anthocyanins which is responsible for the red color and which is higher in antioxidant properties than vitamins C and E. Tart cherries added to ground beef reduce mutagens in ground beef by 90% when cooking, and the flavor is equal or better than plain ground beef.)
Apples/Apple Juice (It turns out that grandma was right – an apple a day keeps the doctor away! Apples are an excellent source of fiber, phenolic compounds (phytochemicals) and phytonutrients, such as the flavonoid quercetin, apples help reduce cholesterol, protect against cancer, especially prostrate cancer, reduce heart attack risk and promotes cardiovascular health. Note: If you have cancer, or have had cancer, apples are much preferred over apple juice due to the much higher Sugar content of apple juice. Plus, whole apples include the added benefits of fiber and the phyto-nutrients contained in the apple skin.)
Apricots, muskmelons and other fruits high in beta-carotene (In test-tube studies at Harvard University, beta-carotene had a direct toxic effect on cells, taken from malignant tumors. It also reduced the growth of lung cancer cells and altered the proteins needed for tumors to grow. Research also shows that beta-carotene can change in the body to retinoic acid, a substance used in clinical trials to treat certain cancers.)
Berries (Cranberries, Raspberries, Strawberries, and other Berries are all excellent sources of vitamin C, phytochemicals and phytonutrients and area good source of ellagic acid.)
Pecans, Brazil Nuts Pumpkin (Pumpkin lowers the risk of various cancers, while it promotes youthful, healthy skin. Want an alternative? Try carrots, carrots, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and orange bell peppers.)
Pumpkin seeds, Pistachios, Sesame Seeds (UNSALTED—and the pumpkin seeds are great!)
Yogurt with beneficial fruit such as blueberries (avoid artificially sweetened yogurt, yogurt with soy, or high carb yogurt with added sweeteners. Yogurt helps the body’s ability to build bones, helps prevent and heal arthritis, and protects against ulcers. Yogurt that contains live bacterial cultures may help you to live longer, and may fortify your immune system. Research studies have shown that increased yogurt consumption, particularly in immuno-compromised populations such as the elderly, may enhance the immune response, which would in turn increase resistance to immune-related diseases. Some yogurt manufacturers pasteurize their yogurt products, while others do not. Although the aim of pasteurization is to kill any harmful bacteria, it also kills the beneficial lactic acid bacteria in the yogurt, substantially reducing its health benefits. Therefore, to fully enjoy the benefits of yogurt, look for those that feature “live active cultures” or “living yogurt cultures” on the label.)
Wash all vegetables and fruits – especially those that aren’t organically grown (if you don’t wash your vegetables from the grocer’s, you very well may be doing more harm than good from the pesticides and preservatives they have been sprayed and treated with).
NOTE: Eat raw, organically grown fruits and vegetables whenever possible and don’t peel except when necessary – you are often peeling away the best vitamins and nutrients! A good rule of thumb is that raw fruits and vegetables are better than steamed, frozen or dried ones, which are better than boiled, baked or grilled ones, which are better than home canned ones, which are better store-bought canned ones, which are better than no vegetables at all! Juices may substitute for raw fruit/vegetables, but avoid added Sugar or other sweeteners.
Note: Lifestyle, exercise, cleansing/de-tox, fasting and diet are covered separately.
Sugar and just about all sweeteners including corn syrup, fructose, honey, sucrose, maltodextrin, dextrose, molasses, rice milk, white grape juice, sweetened fruit juice, brown rice syrup, maple syrup, date sugar, cane sugar, corn sugar, beet sugar, succanat and lactose. (OK, this one may be hard to do, but if you have cancer, or have ever had cancer, you MUST cut all the sugar you can out of your diet because, quite simply, sugar feeds cancer! If you don’t have cancer, go very easy on the sugar, or, better still, substitute Stevia or Lo Han whenever possible.)
Smoking and other tobacco products (You do want to live a long time, right?)
Grilling, Frying, or cooking with high heat (Grilling can produce carcinogens, which are always present in charred meats and other foods. At high temperatures, certain natural constituents of the meat—the simple sugar glucose, the amino acid creatinine, and additional free amino acids—can chemically react to form carcinogenic heterocyclic amines (HCAs). Typically, the longer meat cooks at a high temperature, the greater the production of HCAs. Indeed, low-temperature cooking or a quick searing may generate none of the carcinogens. On January 31, 2005 the National Toxicology Program (NTP), part of the National Institutes of Health, published its latest update of materials known to cause cancer in people and others that are "reasonably anticipated" to do so and among the 246 agents on the lists are the heterocyclic amines that develop in meats when they're cooked too long at high temperature. Frying, especially in animal fats or processed vegetable oil is supremely unhealthy.)
Microwaving – (The evils of microwaving are so bad and so dangerous that it gets it’s own chapter in my book titled “Nuke Your Microwave Oven!”. Put simply, microwaving in plastic may create cancer causing dioxins and microwaving in ANY kind of container alters foods unnaturally so that nutrients are destroyed and cancer and disease causing compounds are created. Man has evolved to eat food cooked by heat from the outside in, not food cooked from the inside out by being bombarded with microwaves.)
Aluminum cookware (Aluminum has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease, although there is a likelihood that the disease itself is responsible for most of the greater concentrations of aluminum found in the brains of Alzheimer’s sufferers. If you must use aluminum Anodized aluminum is the best bet, because the anodizing process seals the surface of the cookware.)
Teflon coated cookware (Teflon, or polytetraflouethylene, when cooked at any temperature causes fumes that are toxic to birds. Cooked at the easily obtainable stovetop level of 680°F, Teflon pans release at least six toxic gases, including two carcinogens, two global pollutants, and MFA, a chemical lethal to humans at low doses. At temperatures that are reached on stovetop drip pans (1000°F), non-stick coatings break down to a chemical warfare agent known as PFIB, and a chemical analog of the WWII nerve gas phosgene. Some products that use Polytetraflouethylene: Heat lamps, Portable heaters, Sole plates on irons, Ironing board covers, Burners on stove tops, Drip pans for burners, Broiler pans, Griddles, Many cooking utensils, Woks, Waffle makers, Electric skillets, Deep fryers, crock pots, Hot air popcorn poppers, Coffee makers, Bread makers, Non-stick rolling pins, Lollipop molds, Corkscrews, Never-Stick-Stainless Steel, Stockpots, Roasters, Non-stick gingerbread molds, Pizza pans, Tortilla presses.)
Animal Fats (Especially animal fats from animals subject to feed lot practices and non-organic meat. Animal fats are generally not so good for your waistline, but the worst thing about most animal fats is likely the pesticides, hormones, and Antibiotics they contain.)
Trans Fats and Refined Oils(Trans Fats, or Hydrogenated Vegetable Fats, are the very worst fats of all, often found in fried foods and processed foods such as cookies, crackers and pastries. Refined oils lose most of their nutritional value in the refining process.)
Potatoes (Good grief, no non organic meats and now my taters too? Yes, sorry! Except for yams that is)
Sunburn and prolonged exposure to the sun
Salt (Except for Sea Salt . Due primarily to chemical processing in the manufacture of commercial food salt, excess salt is linked to high blood pressure and is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths and life-threatening heart attacks each year. Most of us eat an average of 10 times more salt than we should, and no wonder, as it is found in abundance in most foods in a normal diet, processed and natural. The average fast food hamburger, for example, contains over twice the amount of salt one should eat in a day. Avoid foods high in salt, and avoid any added salt except Sea Salt and except when large amounts are lost from the body through sweating.)
Soda pops (eight teaspoons of sugar per can for naturally sweetened ones, dangerous artificial sweeteners in diet ones!)
Tap Water (tap water has been shown to have traces of over 2100 toxic chemicals, including pesticides, and many of these have been shown to cause cancer, cell mutation, nervous disorders and possibly Alzheimer’s. Most of the tap water in the U.S. is chlorinated – we essentially put bleach into our drinking water because it is cheap. Besides the resveratrol in the red wines they drink, the French likely have much lower cancer rates because they drink oxygenated water instead of chlorinated. According to the U.S. Council Of Environmental Quality, "Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine." It should also be pointed out that the body absorbs chemicals in tap water from baths, showers, dish washing, etc. Only a whole house filtration system is safe.)
Processed Foods (including Breads, Pasta, Non Whole Grain Cereals , Bagels, French fries, Chips , Pretzels, Waffles, Pancakes, & commercial Baked goods)
Fast Foods (Do I really have to explain?)
Peanut Butter (Most peanut butters are hydrogenated to keep from separating. If you must have peanut butter on rare occasions, natural peanut butter would be better, but even natural peanut butter often contains aflatoxins, near ubiquitous fungal poisons that naturally lace a range of foods in tiny traces—especially peanut butter. This known human carcinogen was among chemicals on the National Institute of Health’s National Toxicology Program’s first national compilation of cancer-causing agents, in 1980.)
White bread and bleached flour (Just empty calories that provide little nutrition and contribute more to obesity than any other food substances in our diet. In the process of making flour white by bleaching it with dangerous chemicals like the ones that make linens white, half of the good unsaturated fatty acids that are high in food value are lost in the milling process alone, and virtually all the vitamin E is lost with the removal of wheat germ and bran. As a result, the remaining flour in the white bread you buy, contains only poor quality proteins and fattening starch. Also, about 50% of all calcium, 70% of phosphorus, 80% iron, 98% magnesium, 75% manganese, 50% potassium, and 65% of copper is destroyed. About 80% thiamin, 60% of riboflavin, 75% of niacin, 50% of pantothenic acid, and about 50% of Pyridoxine is also lost. .)
Alcohol (OK maybe a beer or two on occasion if you just have to, but no more! Much better would be an occasional glass of red wine during the evening)
Soy or soy-based foods - except for fermented soy products such as miso, natto or tempeh (Sorry, tofu lovers, but, regardless of the hype of the well-heeled soy industry, non-fermented soy products can cause bad, bad things – and weakening your immune system is just one of them! For more information, reach the chapter in my book’s Hall of Shame section titled “Concerns Regarding Soy”.)
Canola Oil (Surprised? Well, of all the cooking alls, only olive oil, hemp, sunflower, palm and coconut oil are healthy. Read your food contents labels carefully to avoid canola and soy – especially Peanut Butter labels. Most major peanut butter brands take out all the peanut oil and replace it with canola.)
Margarines and cooking oils (See “Trans Fats, above, and the information about soy.)
Foods of all kinds with high glycemic index and/or glycemic load values (Refer to the section of my book “Glycemic Index and Glycemic Load” for more information.)
Aspartame (Nutrasweet), Sucralose (Splenda), Saccharine and other artificial sweeteners (All have demonstrated carcinogenic qualities and other health problems. Use Stevia or Lo Han, sold as supplements at health food stores and widely available on the web for less than $5 for a fifty packet box)
MSG (Avoid at all costs! Another villain of the highest order that gets its own chapter later in the “Hall of Shame” section of my book. MSG, or Monosodium glutamate, is described as a mutagen and reproductive effector by the Center for Disease Control in their Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances. It is used in a huge variety of foods and other products, and is disguised under at least 40 different names. It can cause cell mutations, brain damage, neuroendocrine disorders, seizures, headaches, asthma, obesity, diabetes, bladder pain and other ailments.)
Commercial Non-Organic Household Chemical Products (including cleaners, solvents, toiletries, insecticides and more. More on that later. The good news is that there are safe substitutes for everything from soap and cosmetics to cleaners, sunscreen and more.)
Fish (the best fish are oily fish such as wild salmon and cold-water fish. Eat baked, roasted or poached – no frying or charring. Sadly, fish would be recommended as a “Do” and recommended in abundance if it weren’t for the fact that just about all fish is now showing signs of toxins, especially mercury.)
Turkey (baked or roasted, small portions, no frying, charring or smoking)
Other lean meats (choose organic, grass fed meats. Ostrich and bison are both better choices than beef)
Eggs (Actually, eggs are pretty healthy for you, despite years of misinformation – so long as you sellect organic eggs from free ranging field hens or the Omega 3 eggs. Whole eggs do have a good dose of calories though, so an even better plan would be to mix your eggs 50/50 with an egg substitute that is made from 98%+ real eggs, provided it’s not one of the brands that contains ingredients you can’t readily pronounce!)
Oat Bran, Rice Bran, Whole Wheat & Other Whole Grains (Oat and Rice Bran are best, but maintain a modest overall intake of grains regardless of your choice).
Dairy Products (use no fat or low fat organic milk or substitute rice milk or almond milk – but use sparingly due to sugar content)
Dark Chocolate (Dark Chocolate made with 60% or more cocoa has been shown to have health benefits for the heart and to enhance mood; however, if you have cancer, the added sugar is probably not worth the benefits of the chocolate)
Beets, Jicima, Carrots, Winter Squashes, Yams, & Eggplant (use in moderation due to high carbs, although yams have some very good anti-cancer properties)
Fermented soy products (Soy protein is good for helping to lower “bad” cholesterol; however, only fermented soy products are safe. Traditional fermented soy products such as miso, natto and tempeh, which are usually made with organically grown soybeans, have a long history of use that is generally beneficial when combined with other elements of the Oriental diet including rice, sea foods, fish broth, organ meats and fermented vegetables. While fermented soy products contain protein, vitamins, anti-carcinogenic substances and important fatty acids, they can under no circumstances be called nutritionally complete. The soybean lacks vital sulfur-containing amino acids cystine and methionine. These are usually supplied by rice and other grains in areas where the soybean is traditionally consumed. Soy should never be considered as a substitute for animal products like meat or milk. Claims that fermented soy products like tempeh can be relied on as a source of vitamin B12, necessary for healthy blood and nervous system, have not been supported by scientific research. Finally, soybeans do not supply all-important fat soluble vitamins D and preformed A (retinol) which act as catalysts for the proper absorption and utilization of all minerals and water soluble vitamins in the diet. Soy products actually increase requirements for vitamins B12 and D.)
Lifestyle Advice
Avoid Stress at all costs! - a great way to reduce stress is EFT, or Emotional Freedom Technique
Get Plenty of sunshine – (a half hour each day. The sun is the great energizer and source of life. It also converts cholesterol to vitamin D)
Wear Sun block whenever you are in the sun for any length of time
Get Lots of Fresh Air (open those windows! Eat your lunches outside. Go for walks daily. Sleep with the windows open at night whenever possible – get burglar bars if you are worried.)
Get Air Purifiers
Invest in a Good Water Filtration System (The average glass of tap water in the U.S. contains traces of over 2000 chemicals, many of which are pesticides, carcinogens, solvents and poisons. Drinking filtered water is not enough – your body absorbs more chlorine and fluorine from a bath or shower than it does in 8 glasses of tap water.)
Take time to relax and meditate.
Have fun and be happy! Laughter is good medicine for the body and soul!
Get plenty or sleep – 8 hours each night
Exercise every day in moderation (There are just too many benefits to list – just realize this: it doesn’t have to be overly hard or painful, but it really should be done if you want to live longer, healthier and happier.)
Eat a healthy breakfast every day (just be sure to include fruits, juices and other healthy foods, such as omega 3 eggs, yogurt with blueberries, and oatmeal, and don’t overly rely on grains, cereals and bread. Avoid sugar and coffee – try hot green tea instead.)
Drink lots of filtered water or reverse osmosis distilled water and green tea.
Liver Cleanse (Perform once a year at least. The liver is the body’s main detoxification site and it is essential to have a liver in good condition to maintain overall good health.)
Colon Cleanse (Also perform once a year. Bowel movements are the basis of your health. If you don't have at least 1 bowel movement per day, you are already walking your way toward disease. It is said that death begins in the colon, and indeed, colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.)

This is a great article about a diet and a lifestyle of David H.Murdock, who has been featured on Oprah’s show about longevity. He is 86 years old and this is his story. Is it possible to live to 125 or maybe 150? It’s certainly a possibility, as discussed on Oprah Winfrey’s recent show on longevity. She visited me at my farm to learn how, at 86, I am enjoying the robust health, energy, and mental creativity of someone many decades younger. My secret: large quantities of fruit and vegetables, plus an hour of daily exercise. No pills, not even aspirin, and certainly no supplements ever enter my mouth — everything I need comes from my fish-vegetarian diet, which incorporates 30-40 different kinds of fruit and vegetables every week. By eating many fruits and vegetables in place of fast food and junk food, people could avoid obesity. Obesity accelerates aging even faster than smoking, according to scientific research. We created the North Carolina Research Campus to study the health benefits of fruits and vegetables. It is the only campus in the world encompassing eight universities all working together for the benefit of health and longevity. These include Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, NC State University, UNC Charlotte, North Carolina Central University, NC A&T State University, UNC Greensboro and Appalachian State University. We’ve gathered a comprehensive array of famous scientists and scientific equipment under one roof, including a two-story, 950 megahertz, 8-ton superconducting magnet. It is the largest and most powerful magnet in the world and will help us look at both plant and human cells at the most minute level. We are constantly doing research on all fruit and vegetables, including the ones listed below, which are the mainstay of my diet. The Healthiest Foods on Earth
