Thank you Marci! I've been looking up the blue green stains and it seems copper is a known cause of this in water. I've been seeing these blue green stains in my sinks and tubs for years now and never thought much of it. I feel better since taking a 23mg zinc lozenge yesterday and I took another one today. Excess copper causes a zinc deficiency.
Do you take zinc?
Thank you Diana for posting this. What types of problems have you been having?
The more I read the more I suspect that excess copper and zinc defiency are part or all of my problem.
Here is another site:http://www.nutritional-healing.com.au/content/articles-content.php?heading=Copper%20excess
I think if I have too much copper it's probably coming from my water. I have a green/blue stain on one sink (the others I scrubbed real good recently. LOL) and today when I took a bath I paid extra attention and the water was obviously very greenish. Have you ever come across an old green penny? It's that same greenish color.
Other than that, I don't really know. When I read about the sink stains and colored water that was kind of my eureka moment because ours is so prominent. I wish I could afford to have the water tested- and myself and my family, but we are struggling to pay our regular bills as it is.
I would think it would be safe to supplement a low dose of zinc. There are some supplements that come with both zinc and copper if a person is concerned about getting them out of balance. I'm pretty sure I have copper in my water though so I really do not want to take anymore. I ordered some 30mg capsules of zinc and once I finish that bottle I probably would take 10-15 mg a day. These are just my guesses of what seems like would be a safe amount after doing some reading here and elsewhere.
I've been drinking this blue/green water since 1999. I can't help but wonder how much of that has affected my health and how many of my health problems have come from that, but maybe I was blaming it on other stuff.... Or maybe it just played a small part in some of my problems. I don't know. I also don't know if I can get rid of the blue green water. I am hoping that taking zinc on a regular basis will help me feel better and maybe more normal.
I was just reading on the Mirena forum where someone posted this article:
http://drlwilson.com/articles/copper_toxicity_syndrome.htm
I'm in the middle of reading it and trying to figure out if it's accurate, true, etc. It's not very scholarly, and not very well edited. But the main idea might be right. Any thoughts, anyone?
For the most part. The problem with the article is that it is rather vague and there is a lot more involved with some of the conditions they mention.
Something else, our well water leaves a green/blue ring on all of our sinks. I read that can be an indicator of copper. Too much copper can lead to a zinc deficiency.
Yes, copper and zinc are antagonists to each other. High levels of one will displace the other.
The green would be from copper salts. Parts of the country such as Bisbee, Arizona have high copper levels in the soil.
So that may be a possibility of what is contributing to my problems.
I don't even have the money or resources to have it tested or for any kind of water treatment device. Although we do have a simple filter underneath the house. I wonder if there is a filter that absorbs copper?
A reverse osmosis will remove copper, but whole house systems are quite expensive.
I've been taking TMG, trimethylglycine for a little over a week now. I was feeling depressed over finances and was crying a lot...pretty much daily though I was trying not to. And I also have been having some tummy issues and pale stools (very yellowish). I suspect part of the problem has come about from trying Irvingia for a month. It gave me anxiety and my stools were much lighter when I used the stuff.
Lighter stools would likely be from a decrease in bile secretion.
Anyway the TMG cheered me right up and I felt so much happier and energetic each day that I took it. My stools have gotten a little bit darker. I do think it is helping me feel more optimistic in general.
Here is the "however", every day that I take it I am cold. I feel cold and my body is cold to the touch.
Also I have been having breast soreness.
Sounds like increased progesterone.
Does TMG have an effect on hormones?
Yes, the production of hormones and the breakdown of hormones are dependent on methylation. For example, methylation plays a role in the production of progesterone and the breakdown of estrogens.
Why might it be making me cold?
Not real sure. You mentioned getting a stimulant effect from it as well, which makes it sound possible like an epinephrine increase.
I was really hoping I could just take the TMG by itself for awhile as I would ultimately like to get off of all supplements, but...are there any suggestions of what to take to warm me up that I could take with the TMG (something not too stimulating as the TMG can be quite stimulating at times, and something that does not cause me to gain weight. I am currently trying to lose 10-15 lbs)
Supplementing with lecithin granules can help with weight loss and controlling epinephrine.
I'd also love to hear anyone else's experience with taking TMG. I'm quite fascinated by how it makes me feel and I'm wondering if the good effects will only be short lived.
It seemed my typing test and a timed math test I took for a job assessment were much improved while taking TMG.
What I have found for myself that makes me feel better is;
1 kelp tablet with 150 mcg iodine (this seems to be just the right amount) and 3 tablets of Barley Grass, those two things have significantly made me feel better and given me energy.
And 1/2 TB - 1 Tb of liver powder mixed with tomato juice REALLY warms me up - sometimes I get hot.
I think getting the nutrients from natural sources are much better than taking minerals or vitamins in isolation. Every time I've tried taking something in isolation over a period of several days it seems to put my body out of balance and I develope side effects.
I've tried many, many things like zinc, molybdenum, methylfolate, larger amounts of iodine, selenium, magnesium, many herbs.
The adaptogen herbs are the best, but they seem like short term solutions.
I feel the best now than I have in a long time just in taking the kelp, barley grass and occasionally the liver powder. I've decided not to take the liver powder daily as I don't feel I need it everyday, but more every other day.
A couple of other things, I did buy and my husband installed a reverse osmosis water filter on my kitchen sink faucet. We paid $150. for one from Lowes and bought it online.
I also try and get as much sunshine as possible. I think a vit D deficiency can significantly contribute to illness as it's needed in so many of our enzyme processes in our body.
I've also begun a weight training exercise program from a book I bought. I still feel weak, but I think I am making slow progress.
I am sorry I am late in replying, but I do not get email notifications.
I tried to post this yesterday, but somehow it just posted a blank page.
Have you and your wife found anything helpful?
It is good to compare notes as it can be so frustrating finding something to help us feel better.
