Yes, you are full of questions!~ That's ok :)
Oh your first question is a toughie though...there are a few reasons. One of them being that taking
Iodine in sufficient doses mobilizes bromide, fluoride, mercury lead. I've had a look at the immortal hair forums(quite impressive) and I see that
Iodine supplementation has been discussed quite a bit there so I'm assuming that you are familiar.
Here is an EXCELLENT FAQ on detox by PB3046:

Another reason is that
Iodine is detected in EVERY TISSUE in the body:

And what happens when we finally give ourselves the iodine we're starving for?
It depends on how our physiology has manifested symptoms of iodine deficiency. For me, it was fibrocystic breast disease. And as I was healing from that, there were times when my breast would become quite painful, other times when I felt almost an energy or a buzzing sensation. At all times, these feelings of increased "activity" would be followed by another level of healing, another step towards the resolution of FBD.
Other folks on this forum have experienced a sore throat, swollen thyroid, menstrual abnormalities, itchy this or that, heart palpitations, you name it.
And at the far end of the spectrum we have folks that really have to watch it with iodine supplementation, their detox is so difficult. And what happens to bodily systems when one has been manufacturing hormones out of undesirable halogens? Some clues here perhaps.

Pp. 15 - 25 cover iodine.
He says that the best *final* dosage of iodine for women is 12 mg. per day, for men, 8-12 mg.
(in reference to *final* dosage) "About 90-95% of American Adults can start right at those final high doses with no health problems...
Even 1 mg. per day, however, is still too high a dosage for about 5 - 10% of American adults to BEGIN with. It may take months, or even years, for the millions of Americans suffering from more severe thyroid problems and/or "diabetic neuropathy" to get used to eating that much iodide. This is because as dying peripheral nerves start being revived with more optimal
Iodide levels and metabolism, they usually do not function normally for months or even years. Instead, they tend to signal to the brain sensations of intense itching/phantom pains. To help reduce these very distracting and painful problems, it is more comfortable to start with just 1/2 mg.
Iodide per day. This is about 3-4 times as much as most Americans are currently getting, but it is still a low enough dosage not to overly aggravate the peripheral itching and pain problems."

Early on in this forum, Newport observed that "detox comes in waves". It does. Eventually though, if you choose to forge on with this, there won't be any more detox:) You'll be used to feeling great.
Question 2. I have been wondering about that myself! I assign YOU to do some research on that and bring it on home!

3) People HAVE reported MORE hair loss whilst supplementing. Just so you know~ generally it's transient. I have not heard of anyone getting permanently worse.
4) In no way did I mean to suggest that you were overreacting! In retrospect, though, you WERE lucky that you were alone and not taken to the hospital. Thousands of dollars in tests later, they would have told you that they did not know. That's what happened to a friend of mine anyway...
It does sound scary!
re: Barnes basal temperature test~ it needs to be done for at least 4 days...
As far as hair loss goes, we are assuming that it MIGHT be from hypo. One of the reasons that people lose hair from thyroid issues is due to a lack of oxygen to the skin/follicles. Hypo conditions decrease circulation. The body shunts blood away from the skin and towards the vital organs, the brain. In advanced cases the skin may receive only 20% of normal blood supply.
IF your hair loss is due to thyroid issues(which, given your family history, is a distinct possibility), then that can be corrected. I would really recommend that you find an MD to help you out in that direction. Iodine supplementation can correct thyroid conditions that are due to iodine deficiency.
Yes I understand that your hair loss is upsetting for you. Hair has been associated with virility ever since Sampson and Delilah. Not rightly so!
Thanks to the mass media we're all supposed to look like rock stars.
You are VERY young, I am not discounting your concerns, know that. It's not what's on your head but what's in your head that will make you attractive.
The most attractive people are those that are able to bring out the very best in others, those that are able to make OTHERS feel attractive, period. You will learn that as time goes on:)
OK, I'm starting to ramble here, I'm tired:)
So I'm just going to throw some stuff out for further research on your part.
Watch your fats. I see that you are taking krill oil, that's good. Watch out for polyunsaturated vegetable oils- canola, sunflower, "vegetable", etc. Search this forum for more info on that. Also see

.
Look to ways to increase the strength of your capillaries, do a search on horse chestnut.

I KNOW I did not answer all of your Qs~!
A suggestion- try to ask maybe two or three questions per post. I've noticed that long posts are avoided because people feel as though they can't possibly answer all of the Qs.
Internet conversation is very much like normal conversation in that respect. There has to be give and take.
I've had quite a few long-ass posts ignored:)
And you are welcome. There are a lot of people here though that know quite a bit, so I would not single me out! :)
