Hi,
it was really interesting to read info on B. hominis.
My story make me so upset. I got bad diarreah 3 years ago, lost 7 kg during 1 month time. I was sure I was dying at that time (my weight became 37kg- looked like just got freedom from labour camp). Doctors were sure it was a cancer. But after all possible test (even lung x-ray, endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT, lactotose intolerance, celiac) they found absolutelly nothing and were blaming me for obtaining diet and becoming anorexic (I would not go for any diet as my weight use to be 44 kg, that was good for 155cm tall lady).
In UK after a year NHS done test and found B. hominis, I have been given Metronidazole just for 5 days, it did ease my symptoms, but not for long.
A year later my diarrhea started really killing me, 3 tablets of Imodium stoped helping at all. I was scared to leave house. Foul smelling gas was upsetting me as well. How could you live with that and go to work (office) 5 days a week. I went to NHS walk in clinic and doctor was so bad he suggested me to take up to 16 tablets of Imodium and carry on.
That night I started to google net a lot found that people with IBS-D (my NHS diagnosis) often suffer from SIBO. I have bought rifaximin. Hurrraaah my diarrhea went away.
Now my problem is just bad foul gas. I cant get rid of it- tried so many things, spend so many money on treatment. Bought Metronidazole and took it 10 day. No difference.
I would like to tell you DO NOT buy medicine from online, my GP told me off few days ago: 1) it can be not the medicine that is advertised even box is same 2) wrong
Antibiotics can help you to develop more allergies. Now I cant stay in room with bad ventilation and especially if someone has used half of perfume bottle on himself in the morning.
Reading more online articles I found that it could be internal prolapse and good thing for that is fruit diet.
I do not want to tell that is good diet, but for me it did help to get rid of foul smell, at work I have started to get comments like "Ohhh, she started to take shower in the morning!" It is offensive, but better than "smells like s...t" I did not get fired only because I am a foreiner, it could be discrimination.
All I eat (during working days and 1 day before going to work):
6 bananas
grapes/ apple/ kiwi
1peach
5 glasses of boiled water
1 avocado
3 corner yoghurts with jam
sometimes 1 cup of buckwheat or brown rice
At least smell has gone. Now started to take oregano capsules, but smell went away before taking those. My new GP is really good, she promised to help me, but knowing about my diet wants to refer me to dietrician, because it is not long term diet you can live on.
What I would like you to suggest you is not follow my experience but maybe request second and third oppinion. Provide doctor with info that blasto can be a culpit. My GP said she has never even heard of b. hominis before I came. I feel like I am coming from 3rd world coutry, even I am from EU. It is such embarrasment, 3 years of my life really gave such a dipression, just my friends who does not care about my problem were real support.
My GP told me that I might start to take antibiotic, but need to think very well as it has too many side effects.
If you have any good recommendation for me, please email me or post on that web site. My desease is a killer, I have nearly lost a job and would get bad recommendations with it as well, just because I am sick :(((
