In the final analysis ... does it really matter?
Date: 5/24/2006 8:59:43 AM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2602 times First, a disclaimer. I have not seen the movie nor have I read the book altho I think I do have it around somewhere and actually started reading it at some point ... and, as altho I may rent the DVD at some point, I do not usually see new movies and as busy as I am right now, it is unlikely I will see this one for a while -- but that could change. However, having said that ....
On the MYSTERY OF JESUS' DIVINITY AND ALLEGED COVERUP ...
While I do believe there is/was likely a coverup I think that the story may not be complete unless in the book and movie they explain that Jesus' teaching was that "we are all children of God -- sons and daughters of a living God" and that as God's children we have the potential to attain all of the wisdom (and more) and all of the power to do miracles that Jesus did. The point of Jesus' death and resurrection was not that he was "divine" but that death is but an illusion. The body dies but the spirit/soul do not die. Indeed the spirit is so powerful that a wise soul may take up the lifeless form of body and transform it to make it live again.
Surely the socioeconomic and religious politics of the day wld not permit a teaching that would encourage people to believe in their own power, their own divinity, their own lack of need for a religious or political superior power that could determine their laws, their lives, their deaths, their futures ...
consequently, the lie was less that Jesus was merely a man -- but more that we are ALL DIVINE or, "all both man and God" and that Jesus was not the ONLY son of God, but that we are ALL SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF GOD.
The book and movie, if they do not make this point, are merely perpetuating the other side of the same lie.
to the point of the HOLY GRAIL ...
yes, the Holy Grail is a bloodline -- but it is not the bloodline of Jesus and Mary Magdalene -- it is the blood line of Mary, Jesus' mother. Jesus had two brothers and a sister. It was Mary's bloodline that produced Jesus ... It is Mary's daughter, Ruth, who carried on Mary's bloodline to our generation and it is her heirs, for whatever it is worth, that carry whatever might be so gosh darned important about that particular bloodline. (Perhaps a topic for discussion or another blog entry).
While there may be truths and half truths within the story that Dan Brown told -- he likely uncovered a story which had already been polluted or changed, perhaps innocently enough, to coverup the real truth. Certainly the story has an appeal to it -- altho I am not sure if it wld be as interesting or as profitable without the names of Jesus, DaVinci, and Mary Magdalene.
People in the past (just as people in the present) misled, told lies, knew that their lies wld shape the future --- and over time lies can become complex and tangled indeed.
and how, indeed, does this entry fit into a "beyond the rainbow" blog? probably because this blessed family stands in the crossroads between here and there ... and after generations of helping to "show the way" they are holding the door open for as long as they can withstand the challenges of this world ... perhaps you are one of us ...
