Ice Sheet Catastrophe - Response like Katrina?
Ice Sheets slipping into Oceans soon [unreported], response will be Katrina-like.
Date: 4/19/2007 11:54:02 AM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 1745 times There is a pending catastrophe due to global warming, although the news of that has not been any more revealed than the original global warming truth was. Al Gore told us about the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets slipping into the oceans and raising sea levels by "meters". There is no doubt about that, it is just not getting on the news. This will all happen before 2020, and possibly as early as "any time now", from what I can gather. Another record-warm summer and all that ice could slump into the oceans, raising sea levels and flooding out 1/5th of global population, including a few major cities in America.
What do the world's leaders plan to do about it? - let it happen. America gets flooded, or Bangladesh gets flooded, no difference to the Wealthy Elites. Either way, they have their backs covered. Our economy falls apart, no problem - they have their own economy. Meanwhile, most of us will deal with storms and extreme weather, sea level rise, failed crops, damaged infrastructure and no services like electricity and sewer and water or passable roads or airports. The response will be like it was for the victims of Katrina - stalled until the crisis stage is over.
The Wealthy Elites have their own airports and planes, they have services that will work when the public systems are failing, and they have electricty from the most ironic source - renewable energy!!! [if only the public had embraced renewable energy, global warming would not have had to occur]. And, when the waters recede, the Wealthy elites will have us to do their labour for them - the few of us who survived will be only too happy to serve the ones who did this to us, because it will be the only way to survive. We will grow food and cook it for them, we will supply them with all the things they need, and we will feel priviledged to do it. In the aftermath of the horrors of catastrophic weather and ocean-rise flooding, we will have soon forgotten the days of 'independant freedom' where we looked after ourselves.
That situation is real enough. The flooding and the storms are going to happen, but the response could be different, and the world we end up with could be different than described above. The way to ensure a future that is in line with our morality, and our dreams for the human race as a whole, is the same as the solution to global warming - stopping the influence that Wealthy Elites are having on our government [remove those governments], and the advancement of renewable energy.
Life will be very different when the ice sheets slip off into the oceans. It will be as described above if we do not change the way we allow ourselves to be governed by corporatism and Wealthy Elites, OR it could be the start of a better world where we treat nature as a gift that we all depend on, and where we all help each other because we will see that there is simply no way we can all be Billionaires. At some point in human development, we will understand that conflict and wars come from inequality, and that having two or more classes of people [based on wealth, race, or any factor]will allways result in conflict and war. At that point, we can start to grow and prosper together, which is the only kind of prosperity that can last.
