HUMANISM - the new politic - beyond Left and Right
Humanism is creeping into our world now.
Date: 11/11/2006 2:35:09 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 1482 times The recent mid-term elections in the U.S.A. were a sign that people have had enough of the Bush regime and his "whatever it takes" approach to problems.
These election results were a sign that people are rejecting the carnage and suffering caused by Bush's drive to control oil and to control Islamism, and the way they block any and all attempts to come to agreeable terms with those whom America is doing battle with.
The American voters have given the world a sign that there is now an opportunity to usher in an era of HUMANISM. This is not "left VS right" or "socialism VS capitalism", but is instead a way of allowing understanding and compassion to solve problems between the various differing peoples.
The hard approach has a favorite motto when it comes to not helping people who are having troubles coping in this world - they say "don't give them any excuses to behave like that". Humanism, on the other hand, says "we give your compassion and understanding as a way to help you feel better and to hopefully recover and thrive in some way or another.
The hardline gave us the War on Drugs, the War on Terror, and more subtle War on the Poor, and the War on the Homeless that only results in keeping people in those traps. Punish the damaged people to create fears - fears that will mold us all into good little consumers and capitalists. Stifle any individualism that does not fit this mold. That is their way. It is old and it has not worked out, society as a whiole is suffering because of it.
Humanism is creeping into the discussions now, with programs of Harm Reduction for drug users and even the radical idea that the shortage of drugs is the only 'drug problem' and therefore if we GIVE the addicts the drugs they need then crime goes down. And it works, stunningly well, where crime drops to almost zero when addicts have what they need. Stunningly simple solutions like this were lost in the drive to punish people for what they are driven to do.
"Hurt people hurt people" - meaning that the damaged people in our society are going to cause damage to others, out of anger and out of desperation. Ironically, it is often the industrial pollution that has caused much of that damage to people, the same industry that creates the Elite wealthy people. Lead poisening causing brain damge, and the affected become drug addicts to sooth their sufferings, and then we beat them for it. That is not humane, and that is what will change if the people are able to overcome the tough guys.
The damage to the brain and the body was, in the past especially, given the treatment where the damge is denied, leaving the victim without any understanding of why they have so much difficulty getting ahead, why shcool was so hard for them. They tend to think "I am just shit".
Authorities would spread the idea that we must NOT tell victims about their damaged parts - "don't give them an excuse to behave badly". That will change too.
Beyond damaged individuals, there are the bigger problems of the world, like the clash of religions, and how to share the world's oil. The insecurities of the most powerfull people in the world are driving military actions. Energy supply insecurities are one of them, but moreso the expansion of Islam and the waning of christianity is causing Bushevites some distress. If only we could let Bush know that we understand his concerns, and that the world will work together to make sure that nobody is forced into converting to Islam, he might feel better about things and stop killing so many people.
Humanism shows us that killing people means you have lost the battle, if the goal is peace and prosperity for all. The killing only ensures that another generation is damaged and that more wars will have to be fought. Great concentrations of wealth means that there will be poverty for many. These are in fact, the true goals of the Bush types... CTP OTS.... keep wars going so the weapons makers and other indsutrials will thrive. Create poverty so there will be cheap labour and many consumers who will never share the wealth by having savings accounts. Keep wars going, whatever it takes. Lie, cheat, kill, whatever it takes.
Humanism rejects the mean spirited approaches to problems. Heavy-handedness and bully tactics are out. The American voters rejected the Bush approach, they are angry that their nation is an ass. They didn't like being lied to about the need for war. They are starting to see that much we have done to create America the Great was inhumane, and it is haunting them now.
Demonising of humanists is no longer working. Maligning environmentalists, who have no other motive than to save the planet's biospheres, is starting to really bother Americans, especially in the face of extreme weather events caused by global warming. Other tactics of the Right are things like these are common for the Bush types:
Manipulation
Deception
Fear
Division of peoples
Demonising
Distraction
Creating Instability
When we see them, we must reject them and apply humanism wherever we can. For Eg. when people are divided against one another, we can apply understanding so as to reduce the conflict, rather than escalate conflicts by misunderstandings. All these tactics will serve to ratchet up the conflict. Thats the old way that we have been doing for far too long.
There is hope, but we must apply humanism when possible or the dark forces will prevail. Its time.
