Spy with a mission 4 Jan 2007
spy in disguise
Date: 1/4/2007 3:57:41 PM ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2515 times I just finished a book that was a renaissance mystery novel. In it there was a woman dressed as a beggar who just hung around watching people come and go. I can't remember which side she ended up being on, but I got to thinking about her role in the story.
Here is a woman who may have been young, gorgeous, famous, talented and she was playing a role of a poor outcast in order to perform her very important task of being a spy. So that others thought she was poor and disgusting and treated her that way didn't matter much to her, in fact it probably was good because then she knew her disguise was successful. Inside she still understood her role in the whole affair no matter what she looked like on the outside.
So what if I was to adopt this same attitude. I am a famous or important or rich person, or maybe I am the royalty itself and I am in a foreign country and need to be in disguise so I am not killed by the enemy. I am given an outer form that doesnt' necessarily conform to my true identity. When others treat me according to what they see on the outside - ah, so much the better. But I still have total understanding of what's really going on. I'm not offended or shamed by their behavior. I am on a secret mission in disguise so it doesn't matter.
My mission is something like spreading random acts of kindness or giving aid and support to ailing warriors or other sorts of covert activities. I am not the grand charismatic leader that is known and followed by millions. That's someone else's job. Mine is to be more behind the scenes, smaller venues, more personal contacts. When and if I am confronted by the enemy, I just need to remember my mission and stay focused and all will work out. I can't ever be killed by the enemy. The only danger is in my defecting to the other side.
Following this whole line of thinking puts a new spin on imperfect bodies or disabilities or weaknesses. These are just all part of the human disguise I need to complete my mission. It has nothing to do with the clever, loyal, fearless person I am inside.
