55 - Merry Christmas!
Solidly back on the liquid fast
Date: 12/24/2013 7:09:02 PM ( 11 y ) ... viewed 10443 times Woke up with a big white tongue today - as imagined, day 53 was a bit tough but I stuck it out, day 54 was much easier and here I am Christmas morning, 3 days back on the fast :)
My bf just made me a warm water with 1/2 a lemon to start me off, keep me alkaline - then I'm going to have a weak coffee (I have one or maybe 2 most days of late) and see what Santa brought :)
No one home but us today, we've got the place to ourselves - all the flatmates out visiting friends and family - maybe we'll see some of tonight - not sure really...
we're going to celebrate with some presents and music and romantic time alone -- hope everyone out there reading has a great holiday :)
I'm feeling truly back on the fast today - after the first couple of days settling back in - it feels good - going to go to the New Year and maybe break again somewhere early in Jan. Got one of the 5:2 recipe books in the post yesterday and enjoyed looking through that and getting my head around the sorts of things I might make out of it -- still making cheeses for fun and the novelty having never done it before and having more kefir than I can use - yesterday made mozzerella for the first time and it turned out really great - it didn't last long though, guess that's a good sign, my bf and a guest gobbled the whole thing - ah well, will have to do that one again - trying to make ricotta with the whey, not sure how that's going - I've got it hanging so will have to open that up - still looks like a lot of liquid though after hanging overnight so maybe that one didn't work out -- I've been saving a few tubs of the abundant kefir grains that my kefir has been making too much of last week and yesterday out at the shops bought up 3 very discounted 2$ jugs of jersey milk that had a use by of today - turned one into extra kefir, already had 2 jars going on the shelf, plus the couple tubs of extra grains - and that's all going to be turned into my first big wheel of cheddar today/tomorrow - so trying out my first hard cheese now - the other jug and a bit made the mozz, and there's a bit more than a half jug left (to use up today) to make more kefir or for tea whatever -- should have bought more of it, next time I see such a good deal on unpasteurized high quality milk like that I'll make a few rounds of the mozz out of a few jugs.. Enjoy playing in the kitchen even when I'm not eating - and this kefir is really impressing me, so far - I've made gjetost cheese out of one big batch of whey, lots of awesome kefir to drink, mozz now, a big mayo jar full of a mix of goats and cows balls of a sort of cheve cheese which is the simplest one to make (a bit like labne or cheve - something you could easily use in place of ricotta in lasagnes, on toast with figs, etc, etc) then I made a block of feta which is curing in brine and turned out wonderfully - so really don't need to buy cheeses any more - maybe the occasional thing I can't make - with a vegetarian in the house that's a pretty cool thing as I'm sure there are a lot of ways to use it :) It's fun making it too - so this kefir really keeps on giving, pretty amazing stuff with so many good probiotic benefits.
Well - enough of a blog for today - don't mean to make you hungry if yr fasting and reading this ;)
More soon,
Swastiastu
