Falling off the wagon - and walking the rest of the way...

I have stopped counting calories, Hubby got diagnosed with cancer and gets a migraine.

Boy, did I fall off the wagon of calorie counting! But I actually gained weight when I was counting - so, obviously I counted wrongly... The past week I did mind what I ate, no counting calories, and lost a little weight - still far from losing 5 kg. How can it be so difficult to loose only 5kg?

I have been off all wheat products, and feel much much better for it. I remember, about 6 years ago, I was in constant pain - left side just under my ribs, shooting to my right shoulder...constant pain is a debilitating place to be, and when I figured out that bread was causing all the misery, I became so angry at bread, I had no trouble avoiding it.

But one forgets as one gets better. I seem to remember pleasant things much clearer than unpleasant things, and therefore I started to forget what bread did to me, and remembered the convenience and lovely taste of bread. So, I started eating it again occasionally. But in lesser amounts than before, and even so, the bread/wheat still seems to disturb my digestive system. Now, no bread/wheat. There.

I do not know whether I mentioned it or not, but about a month ago Hubby went to the dermatologist about a 'wart' under his eye, and she diagnosed it as basal cell carcinoma. Yes, that is cancer. At least it is the 'good' kind that does not spread to the rest of the body. So, off to the plastic surgeon we went to have it removed - on our follow up visit he informed us that the removal was successful and he got everything out. What a relief. Now I also know someone who can suck out my fat, if it comes to it. Ha Ha - just joking.

The cancer diagnoses was a bit of a wake-up call, we are slowly changing our lifestyle. We bought a juicer and I have been making us fresh juice (various kinds) every morning. Hubby is very happy with his carrot juice. This is a good thing, because we do not really eat fruit at all. I know juicing is a bit of a cop-out, but at least we are getting in more goodness than before.

Last night Hubby wanted a screwdriver - no, the kind with orange juice and vodca. So, because we juiced all our oranges, he went an bought some box orange juice. I think he had 2 glasses, and this morning, lo and behold, bed ridden with a migraine.

He has told me in the past, orange juice induces migraines for him, but it seems to be the box kind, and not the freshly squeezed juice, because the whole week he has been having oranges as part of his juice cocktails (no alcohol obviously) and nothing happened, but after 2 glasses of 'fake' juice, he gets ill. O, he also had some chocolate, and in combination with the box juice, that seems to be too much for his body to handle.

I told him this morning we all get punished for our indulgences, - I get fat, and he gets a migraine. He replied that he would rather get fat. :-| I am so vain, I think I would prefer being skinny like him and occasionally getting a migraine, but then again, it does look pretty awful and painful having a migraine.

I have never had a migraine - he has never been fat. Together we seem to balance each other out... :-/
