Here's a change to help save a farm in an area of LA where poverty and crime is prevalent.

11:41 AM May 29, 06 Just got this email from Deena Metzger who is the elder for the Dare community in Topanga. Deena’s history with socially responsible protesting goes back to hear early days at Cal State Northridge, then SFVSC. I remember here as a teacher fighting for tenure or something like that. I was active in our protests around Kent State. We shut down the campus for a few days. Deena was a teacher there then. She wanted to spread the word about this important work to save a farm in Southern Central LA. John Quigley, mentioned here, is an old ally. ...   read more

Local Grown Food Revolution   18 y
Powerful Article on Local Grown Food Revolution

Powerful article on Local Grown Food Revolution from Mother Jones June 2006 issue. http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2006/05/no_bar_code.html I might never have found my way to Polyface Farm if Joel Salatin hadn’t refused to FedEx me one of his chickens. I’d heard a lot about the quality of the meat raised on his “beyond organic” farm, and was eager to sample some. Salatin and his family raise a half-dozen different species (grass-fed beef, chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rabbits) in an intricate rotation that has made his 550 hilly acres of pasture and woods in Virginia’s Sh ...   read more

Caught me walking out the door...   18 y
found something from last summer... Steve Hays called just now asking for a picture of Donna Frye with me that he took for the next issue. Found this story on my computer...

4:58 PM May 26, 06 Was walking out the door to go out to Escondido back country, for a day or more and Steve Hays the Editor of the local Light Connection caught me asking for a photo that he took of me and Donna Frye at the E.A.R.T. H. awards So where is that photo? Still looking.... put in the name of Donna Frye... and this story popped up... I actually was given an honorable mention-- Hermann Schaefer and myself...for this action. Donna said at the Awards.. ”We are each one tragedy away from being an activist.” I feel doing all I can to bring local foods into p ...   read more

Profoundly Confusing   18 y
Working with my Images site. it is mind boggling, after working with it for a few hours. Much to simplify, and a time to pull it all together next week. That is what this week is all about in the Kabbalistic Tree of LIfe meditations that I follow.

11:26 AM May 25, 06 Got up early this morning. Followed inspiration to get the CD Cover for Organic Celebration! on my Super Ripe Images site. O.K.! Done! Fell into a mind field of pages and pages on the site that all were created in a mishmosh of evolving inspirations at different stages. The layouts were created at different stages. The colors are not in sync... Branding is not clear...central images that are consistent.... Feels like an Manuscript that really needs some intense work. All the pieces are there...pretty much... I hope...I can’t just sit and ...   read more

Early morning inspirations about Soul Foods, Judgements we have on ourselves, and the Soul we are.

5:44 AM May 23, 06 Woke up in a nightmare, a reoccurring nightmare. I am before a group being called to do a poetry reading. I am very talented by nature and rely on this natural talent. I have been rushing. I have not been paying attention to details. I have been doing too much. I have tons of poetry I could read but I forgot my books of poetry at home. I start reciting some poems I have memorized. I imagine I can wing it. I forget the words half way through. I feel stupid. I get scared because I feel like a failure. I wake up. Thank God, I woke up. In fact, I usually save reading your stuff for right before I go to bed, when I want to remove all the routine and stressful things out of my mind. I especially like to read about your longing for Your Best Friend. It’s really nice for a change to hear a man’s romantic melancholy. So much of what we hear from men is their rougher side. But don’t get me wrong, I ...   read more

May 24, 06 2:31 PM I am wanting to appreciate the effort that it takes for Bill of the Whole Foods Hillcrest Produce department to get the job done. More than 350 products and here I come along with my special needs to bring this out-of-the-box local fresh that day picked berries into his produce domain that needs to runs like Rocket Science. Much communication is needed all around to keep his produce area running calm and smooth. 8:51 AM May 24, 06 Had a request from Jennifer of the local The Light Connection a little something about the strawberry project. I know enough to run this by the Whole Foods folks before I would submit it. Had a lot of stress about this last eve. The folks at Whole Foods are extremely pressed to do their jobs and run this produce department that needs to flow like Rocket Science, as Bill describes it, and here I come in with strawberries that need special treatment that they might find a home in this commercial setting that truly wants to help the local farmers. Checking in with Alice Sudmeyer retired military, first Gulf War, the Enchanted Garden in Missouri

12:31 PM May 23, 06 Just talked to Alice Sudmeyer, who holds down the Enchanted Garden outpost in Fredericktown, MO, that is short for Missouri. Alice was in the military during the first Gulf War in the Medical Wing and her own Wings have never been the same. She saw one schud too many flying by-- missiles, you remember. Also was in the garden when I called. I asked if she had any Job’s Tears Growing. She said no. I promised to send her some seeds. Treating Holy Food as "Provender"

”A huckleberry never reaches Boston; they have not been known there since they grew on her three hills. The ambrosial and essential part of the fruit is lost with the bloom which is rubbed off in the market cart, and they become mere provender. As long as Eternal Justice reigns, not one innocent huckleberry can be transported thither from the country’s hills.” --from the Chapter Ponds in ”Walden” by Henry David Thoreau. --- It’s all working out!
