Just got this email from Deena Metzger
who is the elder for the Dare community
in Topanga.
Deena’s history with socially responsible
protesting goes back to hear early days
at Cal State Northridge, then SFVSC.
I remember here as a teacher fighting
for tenure or something like that.
I was active in our protests around Kent State.
We shut down the campus for a few days.
Deena was a teacher there then.
She wanted to spread the word about this
important work to save a farm in Southern Central LA.
John Quigley, mentioned here,

I might never have found my way to Polyface Farm if Joel Salatin hadn’t refused to FedEx me one of his chickens.
I’d heard a lot about the quality of the meat raised on his “beyond organic” farm, and was eager to sample some. Salatin and his family raise a half-dozen different species (grass-fed beef, chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rabbits) in an intricate rotation that has made his 550 hilly acres of pasture and woods in Virginia’s Sh ... read more

Was walking out the door to go out to Escondido
back country, for a day or more and Steve Hays
the Editor of the local Light Connection caught me
asking for a photo that he took of me and Donna Frye
at the E.A.R.T. H. awards
So where is that photo?
Still looking....
put in the name of Donna Frye...
and this story popped up...
I actually was given an honorable mention--
Hermann Schaefer and myself...for this
action.
Donna said at the Awards..

Woke up in a nightmare,
a reoccurring nightmare.
I am before a group being
called to do a poetry reading.
I am very talented by nature
and rely on this natural talent.
I have been rushing.
I have not been paying attention to details.
I have been doing too much.
I have tons of poetry I could read

I start reciting some poems
I have memorized.
I imagine I can wing it.
I forget the words
half way through.
I feel stupid.
I get scared because I
feel like a failure.
I wake up.
Thank God, I woke up.

I am wanting to appreciate the effort

Had a lot of stress about this last eve.
The folks at Whole Foods are extremely pressed

that is short for Missouri.
Alice was in the military during the first
Gulf War in the Medical Wing
and her own Wings have never been the same.
She saw one schud too many flying by--
missiles, you remember.
Also was in the garden when I called.
I asked if she had any Job’s Tears Growing.

She said she doesn’t even try to open my blog link
that I will send out sometimes.

Treating Holy Food as "Provender"
”A huckleberry never reaches Boston;
they have not been known there since
they grew on her three hills.
The ambrosial and essential part of the fruit

and they become mere provender.
As long as Eternal Justice reigns,
not one innocent huckleberry
can be transported
thither from the country’s hills.”
