Song:Sunset Chant 16 y
I visited the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community in San Diego this week. In the heart of the city, the beautiful land is about 1/3 acre, abutting a canyon shared by several houses up on a ridge; sitting in the "backyard" gives one the feel of being in a completely different world!
While watching butterflies flit around and hearing the coyotes howl as the sun set over the canyon, words and a melody came into my head...the repetitions, simple melody, & earth-focused words are reminiscent of Native American chant.
Sunset Chant
CHORUS:
See the grasses growing
in the valley below us
See the grasses growing
in the valley below us
See the grasses grow
See the butterflies alighting
on the flowers on the hillside
See the butterflies alighting
on the flowers on the hillside
Would our footsteps be as gentle
as the butterflies alighting
Would our footsteps be as gentle
as the butterflies alighting
So gentle and so wise
Hear the howling of the coyotes
as they sing upon the mountain

Digital TV Signals 16 y
Are you ready for February 17, 2009? On this date, just after midnight, the TV signals being broadcasted will change nationwide from analog to digital signals.
https://www.dtv2009.gov/
If you have cable or satellite or pay TV you don’t have to worry, as those companies will automatically convert the signal for you. If you have or purchase a new TV and hook it up to an antennae on your roof it should have a built-in digital tuner to receive the new digital signal (check with the manufacturer to make sure).
If you have an antennae on your roof or use rabbit ears for an older analog TV, you can keep your analog TV but will need a converter box so the analog TV can get the new digital signals. If you or anyone you know needs a conv ... read more

Saltwater 16 y
Original "Saltwater" YouTube video, sung by Julian Lennon. Environmental theme. I can relate to the folks wearing masks to ward off air pollution...
Saltwater
Julian Lennon
we are a rock revolving around a golden sun
we are a billion children rolled into one
so when I hear about the hole in the sky
saltwater wells in my eyes
we climb the highest mountain
we’ll make the desert bloom
we’re so ingenious we can walk on the moon
but when I hear of how the forests have died
saltwater wells in my eyes
I have lived for love
but now that’s not enough
for the world I love is dying
and now I’m crying
time is not a friend
as friends we’re out of time
and it’s slowly passing by
right before our eyes
we like the deep ... read more
Hummingbird Totem 16 y
A hummingbird visited me today at my backyard sliding glass window. Was she trying to tell me something?
View of my backyard through the glass slider as seen from my computer table. The hummingbird is barely visible hanging on the screen outside the glass; she is circled in red, her belly facing the viewer, her beak pointed upwards.

NO Dirty Gold! 16 y
Spring is in the air and so is love! Before you buy that engagement or wedding ring, or that gift of jewelry for Mother's Day, consider this:
Over 80% of the gold used in this country is for jewelry. The process of mining causes ecological disaster. Watch this YouTube video produced by Environmental Working Group & read on for more information and alternatives to Dirty Gold!

Farm Slaves 16 y
Farm Workers that grow our foods are often treated like modern-day slaves, paid low wages, no benefits, and living/working in substandard conditions. Sign an on-line petition calling for Burger King and other food industries to pressure Florida growers to enforce human rights for farm workers.
ALERT OF THE WEEK: END MODERN-DAY SLAVERY IN U.S. FIELDS The Organic Consumers Association (OCA)-- representing over 850,000 consumers across the U.S. -- has joined a growing alliance in support of the Florida-based Coalition for Immokalee Workers’ campaign to “End Slavery and Sweatshops in the Fields.” While the organic and sustainable agricultural movement has traditionally focused primarily on health and environmental issues, the time is long overdue to integrate Fair Trade and worker justice issues into our alternative food and farming system. Eco-Printing/Inks/Recycling Cartridges 16 y
I've done some research into eco-inks, made from vegetable oils rather than conventional petroleum-based ones. This is what I've found so far...
1) Eco-Print:
http://www.ecoprint.com/inks.shtml
This company makes ink that is vegetable-oil based. They make two kinds of ink ”containing less than 2% volatile organic compounds (VOCs)**. By using ink that is 98% non-evaporative, polluting emissions are virtually eliminated. More eco-friendly than most soy-based inks.”
A second formulation of eco-inks ”carry the high environmental standards of our standard Eco-ink, but go even farther because they’re specially formulated to be free from environmentally toxic metals like copper and barium.”
In addition, the company states: ”W ... read more

Owl Be Home For The Holidays or The Thanksgiving Song
by Jeff Guidry (Wanbli Mone’)
Little Brother who sang so sweet
A few years back on a cold, wet, and dreary Thanksgiving day I was at the center along with a handful of volunteers. We’d arrived early to feed and clean so people could get home to be with their families for Thanksgiving dinner. I stayed late to help with a Bald Eagle that had been shot. This girl had 17 shotgun pellets scattered across her wings and chest. If that wasn’t bad enough she also had a very infected foot, (a direct result of the shooting). This needed ... read more
