Grateful During the Fires 16 y
Sitting out the latest fires in Southern California, I find I have much to be grateful for.
I’ve been sitting in the house for the last 3 days, with the windows taped shut and my 3 air filters blasting. The air outside smells awful--ash and smoke, and it’s not even as bad today as it was yesterday. Yesterday, to make it to my car, I had to wear a charcoal filter mask; my daughter held her breath--she has better lung power than I do. Once we were in the car we blasted the car’s air filter. This is why I bought the air filters in the first place--all activated charcoal--because of the wild fires in Southern California in 2003.
My house is about 12 miles from the closest fires st ... read more

Butterfly Totem 16 y
Had a butterfly encounter today--butterflies are symbols of freedom, creativity, soul growth and transformation.
I had an encounter with a large Giant Swallowtail butterfly this a.m. I was taking a walk along a nature trail at about 7:45 a.m., and spotted the butterfly on the ground, pushed up against a chain link fence on one side of the trail. It’s wings were opened up completely flat, and it wasn’t moving; at first I thought it was dead until I nudged it gently with a leaf, and saw the legs wiggle a bit. I put my index finger next to it and it crawled right onto my finger. It clung to my finger, not moving, not flapping its wings. Looking closely at it, I saw it was missing one leg, and had a sma ... read more

Photos:Striped Icebergs! 16 y
Icebergs in the Antarctic area sometimes have stripes, formed by layers of snow that react to different conditions. These beautiful photos make the icebergs look like ice cream layered with candy! More photos show a frozen wave in the Antarctic--yep, it's so cold that the wave froze as soon as it broke through the ice! Amazing!
Blue stripes are often created when a crevice in the ice sheet
fills up with meltwater and freezes so quickly that no bubbles form.
When an iceberg falls into the sea, a layer of salty seawater can
freeze to the underside. If this is rich in algae, it can form a
green stripe.
Brown, black and yellow lines are caused by sediment, picked up
when the ice sheet grinds downhill towards the sea.

Dear Heron Dancers,
The fall leaves seem to be at the peak of their color change, despite the warm weather. Yesterday, walking in the woods, little birds flittered all around. They were kinglets stopping by on their migration from points north. Some spend their summers as far north as northern Alaska.
At the recent Heron Dance journaling workshop, much of our exploration revolved around the implication of this quote:

MCS & Superior Court 16 y
Got a traffic ticket. Trying to get the Court to allow me to take traffic school online instead of going to class in person. This is shaping up to be a quite a challenge. Wonder how the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) may be able to help me? Any lawyers out there in Curezone Land?
I was supposed to go away for a couple of days for Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) but felt too ill today so stayed home and wrote a letter to my county Superior Court. I got a traffic ticket a couple of weeks ago and didn’t have the energy to fight it. The Superior Court said I could go to traffic school to get the ticket off of my record but they don’t allow you to take the course online.
The letter I wrote requests taking the course online due to my disability--it took me on and off all freeking day to compose it--it took more energy than if I’d gone to traffic court and thrown mysel ... read more

Natural Flea Control 16 y
Received this email--Green Hope Farms sells Flower Essences for people and pets, including one for natural flea control
I wanted to let you know that I beat the flea situation at our house
with three dogs and two cats (at the time) in California where fleas
just love to live. I used a product from Green Hope Farms
called ”Flea Free.” It can be put into the animals’ water bowl or
given to them directly. I used the direct route. One of my cats
didn’t like it, and the other one would chase me around the house
trying to get some when I pulled the bottle out of the cabinet.
Of course I gave it to the dogs too. I had a very flea-sensitive

When last we left off, our heroine had just been told that the underlying etiology of her MCS and other chronic health challenges was primarily emotional, but no, it’s not “all in her head” as in “making it up”, as emotional trauma of any kind at a time of physical vulnerability or illness can cause the mind/body to lay down ... read more

The bill, five years in the making, won final passage in Congress last week, and President Bush said he would sign it.
