cavernous liver hemangioma

Hey,

Just wanted to let you know I had a liver resection done 2 weeks ago. I had an MRI about 8 weeks ago and my hemangioma was measured at 9.6 cm X 10.1 (I have 3 all on the right lobe, only one was significant in size). I did lots of research and couldn't find any way of shrinking it. I spoke with the radiologist at Wake Forest University who has had success using radio frequency but he said that it was too big for that to be successful. He said that he was only aware of one other doctor in the U.S. that had done the radio frequency and he was the doctor from Wisconsin that some one else spoke of in this forum. Because of the location of my hemangioma, it required that my whole right lobe be removed. It is very risky surgery and if you are not in pain I highly recommend you just keep monitoring it. Mine decided to grow very rapidly. When I had the MRI, I was just slightly uncomfortable but over the next few weeks I began having trouble with just sitting. The last few weeks prior to surgery, I could not sit at all. My resection was 2 weeks ago today and I spent 3 days in ICU and then another additional 4 days in the hospital. I went in on Friday and came home the following Friday. My surgery was 6 weeks after the MRI and the hemangioma had grown to 15.? X 15.? I didn't hear the exact measurements but two nurses said it was over 15 cm X over 15 cm. It went from being the size of a softball to the size of a cantelope. I have been home one week and am doing quite well. I too am the mother of two boys. I am 47 years old and in relatively good health. I was walking 5 miles a day up until the 1st or 2nd week of June. I know you had lots of questions but from my research the only thing relevant to the hemangioma is heredity and hormones. If you have more questions, leave me your e-mail and I will contact you directly and let you know who did my surgery and where I had it done. Good Luck.
