Re: Gay/Lesbian Marriage

Many people share your point of view, and many others see glaring faults with it.  I sympathize with your struggle to come to terms with different lifestyles.  I know that when I consider how people live in Saudi Arabia or in Snake worshiping congregations, I also struggle to come to terms with their choices.  Because that is really what this about right?  The choice to live the life we are given?  If you were born in a totally different country you certainly would be faced with different choices.

But then again, its hard to see how a woman in Saudi Arabia has the same choices as the daughter of the Clinton's or Bush's.  It's also hard to see how a person born a particular way, perhaps blind, or perhaps with the mind of a genius has the same choices as others not so born.  Its very hard to understand other people isn't it?

How does calling some aspect of another a choice or an instinct matter at all?

I know that you are good person at heart.  I can see that.  But you also have made a "choice" to announce to the public that homosexuality is abnormal and disgusting and then try to hide your malice by denying your homophobia.  I don't understand your choice, but I doubt it is entirely a free choice on your part.  Either way I will pray for you.  Goodness in the heart extends outward to all.

I hope you offer male and female couples generous understanding even when they are barren and unable to reproduce.  Many couples are not able to make babies, and yet they are granted the "right" to marry or to adopt children.  I'm sure that since they are not choosing to be unable to have children then you grant them mercy and sympathy.  But why should they marry?  Shouldn't only virile and fertile couples be united?  Isn't that the natural way according to your view?

However, I like some of the points you make.  I agree that male parts and female parts match perfectly for reproduction.  But sex itself is much less perfect, even in the "natural" world.  I know you believe that homosexuality never occurs "naturally", but I know it does as I have seen it occur with God's creatures.  I've also seen male animals spew sperm indiscriminately, also ingest their own, or other animals consume this fluid as well.  I know that is a bit tactless to say, but it happens regardless of our peevishness.  If we really want to understand God and the World, we should open our eyes and our heart and not look away.

Still even when it is a choice to form homosexual relationships, the value of love and bonding remains.  People who choose to be together and build a life and family and community are good people with loyalty and love in their hearts.  Sharing that love with children is also a choice.

Perhaps God wants homosexuals because he knows that the earth can only hold so many people.  Not everyone needs to have children.  Lots of people with children probably shouldn't have them, but as you say, people make their choices and not all of them are good.
