Re: Is there a cure for SAD?

Light therapy definitely works! I get SAD during the Winter months in my area. We are not only light deprived here, but also Color deprived at that time. The sky and ground is a perpetual grey from being constantly overcast. The snow is covered with car exhaust soot-- so there is not even any beauty in looking at the snow.

Then add flourescent lighting with no windows at my workplace, and it's a wonder we all havn't put a gun to our heads where I live!

What has helped me is those full spectrum lightbulbs -- like that Lightbook you mentioned. In my case, I have a $29.99 full spectrum floor lamp, and I use the Chromalux bulbs in my lamps. I also love those Himalayan salt lamps and found an affordable website that sells them without any shipping and handling costs. they take small watt candelabra bulbs but the glow they give is very healing to the light deprived eyes -- Great to use in your home towards evening.

I even use a little light at my desk at work to offset the flourescent lighting. I make sure to add color in my living area and at work. A houseplant on my desk gives me the green I am deprived of -- plus cleans the air as well.

All my desk accessories are in bright colors that I like--at home and at work.

Because I live in the part of the United States that is on the light deprived end, I will insist on color in my home and desk area at work- with houseplants and full spectrum light where I can.

I also will make sure to get outside during my lunch breaks -- just to expose my eyes and body to sunlight for at least 15 minutes a day. Working in an 8 hour day job with no windows and flourescent lighting pushes me to get outside when I can.

Be careful with the tanning booths though-- I had to have two strange moles removed that appeared weeks after I used to go for tanning . Instead, now, I make time to get sunlight outside-- and longer on the weekends to do gardening with my bathing suit on.
