Re: Why ?

i have a bit of a different take on kelp from hopinso.

i live in a northern climate, am thin, and i have always had a hard time keeping warm in the winter. this winter i have been taking about 2 tablespoons of kelp a day and it has helped tremendously. i am warmer at all times and its easier for me to warm back up after catching a chill.

i thnk it is an individual thing, but i have personally never heard of anyone who has suffered negative side affects from taking too much kelp and i have read quite a bit about it. the only exception to this rule is those who already have over active thyroid glands and then take kelp. the japanese and okinawans eat copious amounts of seaweed everyday and are the longest living people on earth. kelp is not just iodine, its a whole host of minerals vitamins and other nutrients together, they all support each other and work synergistically together.

i do not put kelp in the same category as supplement like digestive enzymes or vitamins. kelp is a whole food, it comes direct from nature, and it does not have the strong medicinal properties of some herbs.

now, if you suffer from hyperthyroid (an overactive thyroid gland) then i would not recommend you take kelp in any form at all. otherwise in my opinion and experience, its safe.

having said that, everyone is unique, and someone could suffer negative side affects from kelp. if that happens to you then either cut the dosage drastically or stop. happy kelping!
