Re: Why ?
That is a gem. Some might even argue that it alone is cause for political revolution.
We're not screwed. It is all part of the natural evolutionary process. Freedom leads eventually to despotism, which eventually leads to freedom again. Malcolm Gladwell's book "The Tipping Point" is inspirational, in that it shows, eloquently, that large changes throughout history are made in relatively short spans of time, by a small number of people.
I've seen it proposed that there ought to be a medical revolution brought about immediately.
The people at large are prisoners of their own ignorance, brought on largely by a learned notion that everything that is worth their effort is a material object. Hence, they obligate themselves to usury contracts requiring compelled performance on "loans" of credit, allegedly by the banks, but in fact inherent in the people themselves. It is voluntary servitude. The drive fast in traffic to work, so they can hurry up to pay the loans on their automobiles. Christ taught people to sell everything they owned, including their clothes, and buy a sword. He was a revolutionary, against Satan in men.
The semi-cretinistic status of the american population, on average, is certainly a factor in maintenance of the system. It came about by means which were calculated, and is no accident.
