Re: Salt water flush as opposed to enema??

Hi B2, make sure the bag is not suspended too high or the pressure of the water will cause discomfort and cramping. Try about 2 feet above the level of your hips and see how that works.

If you are taking the enema while lying on your back on the bathroom floor, it will be much more comfortable if you have an exercise pad to lie on, and a pillow might help too.

Position the shutoff on the tubing such that you can reach it without stretching, and just let a few ounces in at a time until you start to feel full, then clamp off the flow. If you start to cramp, breath rapidly with short shallow breaths. Pant like a dog was the way I was taught.

After a minute or so, release the shutoff. While the water is flowing take slow deep breaths and stop the flow again whenever you wish. Don't rush. Continue taking a few ounces at a time until you have taken the desired amount. You should be able to take about a quart during first few enemas if you go slow. Try a few ounces more each time, and gradually you should be able to work your way up to a full bag (2 qts is the standard size in the US).

During a fast, I'd suggest just using salt solution for your enemas with 1 teaspoon of Sea Salt or non-iodized table salt for each pint of water, or 4 teaspoons for a full bag.

Best wishes and happy fasting!

Valerie
