If one used the basic drink using minimal amounts of the ingredients, then it is very possible that good results could be seen at first. The Iodine in the kelp would help bring balance to a sluggish thyroid gland and normalize metabolic rates and provide a little more energy. The bio-available iron in the Blackstrap molasses will help build erythrocytes and make the body better oxygenated and energetic. The lime would probably just flush right through the body, although one might experience a nice belch when the alkaline lime hits the stomach. Kind of like drinking Alka-seltzer or a bit of baking soda.

What concerns me is that so many people are taking extremely large amounts of the kelp and lime water and doing this several times a day. In a worse case scenario here is what could potentially happen some years down the road if the basic ingredients of the drink are taken in overly large amounts. With the lime water just a suspension of calcium hydroxide very little if any of the calcium is bioavailable and must be either flushed or stored by the body. The kidneys will have the bulk of the lime to deal with. kidney stones would probably be the first warning sign. Later the kidneys themselves could become so blocked with the lime that they will become hard and brittle and non-functioning. The molecules of lime that do enter the bloodstream are still too large to pass through the smallest capillaries. These tiny vessels will become clogged, hard and brittle. The cells they normally feed will die from lack of oxygen and toxic build up. As the cells die and rupture they will contaminate surrounding cells and eventually organs setting the stage for invasive tumors fed by the excess waste. If the extremely alkaline lime water is drunk in large amounts over the years it will begin to eat away at the mucus that lines the digestive system. Most vulnerable will be the esophagus. As the caustic calcium hydroxide begins to eat away at the delicate tissue of the esophagus, lesions will develop opening another opportunity for cancer cells to invade resulting in esophageal cancer. Either too acid or too alkaline is harmful to the digestive system.
Overdosing on kelp is another possibility. Too much Iodine will over stimulate the thyroid gland. The bulging eyes of Graves disease, huge goiters on the necks, extreme mood swings, night sweats, dry wrinkled skin and brittle hair will show that there has been too much Iodine consumed.
For those who believe that the skin must be alkalized too, there will be some very obvious tell-tale signs. First of all will be extreme dryness of the skin (remember that alkaline substances will break down fats and oils. Add to that when the skin's natural acid mantle is destroyed, it will also destroy the blanket of beneficial bacteria that thrives on the epidermis and help keep dangerous invaders at bay. If hydrogen peroxide is used, that will also destroy the natural and necessary bacterial blanket. Serious skin parasite infestations and bacterial infections will probably occur, as well as dry scaly skin. Scars will be prominent.
Now remember, this is for those who take very large quantities of the drink over a long period of time; but here is a very possible description of someone who has abused the drink over a period of years. The individual may be very bloated from renal failure, or doubled over in pain from recurring kidney stones. Their skin will be very dry and scaly, it will be very thin and subject to skin tears and bruising. It may be covered with large festering sores from virulent bacterial infections. The hair will be broken and dull. The eyes however, will be unusually bright and bulging. In extreme cases though, the eyelids will no longer close completely over the bulging eyeball, and the eyes will be dry, possibly infected and even blind. There will be a huge growth on the neck from exploding thyroid tissue. Some of these growths can look like a second head growing on the neck. There is also a chance the person will have a canula permanently inserted in his chest for the feeding tube, since the esophagus was so eroded that cancer invaded the lesions caused by the alkaline lime eating away the tissue. A few may even sport colostomy bags because all the ingested rock mineral clogged the colon and caused it to stop functioning. As the tissue died it became necessary to remove the colon rather than risk gangrene.

Of course the good news is these people may have very alkaline saliva and urine (if their kidneys still work).
