Re: Colonic for a desperate kid?

Today our daughter took Meg to the hospital because she was having severe pains in her bladder, and after a whole day of different tests and exams they finally found it was severe constipation that was causing the bladder pain. They did an enema and sent her home tonight. The impacted colon was pressing on the bladder causing the bladder to go into spasms which is what the 'weird feeling' was that Meg had been complaining about off and on for a long time. TODAY I just found a report on WWW that says constipation in children has always been common (probably from drinking cow's milk/formula). In the past, it was common to give children enemas, because they so often got constipated. I think it best to adjust the diet (add fiber and fresh fruits and veggies) to stop the constipation in the first place, but in the case of severe constipation like Meg has, enemas and/or colonics that clean out the upper colon may be required, because otherwise the child is often in pain or toxic, causing ADD and other behavioral problems that distrupt the whole family. In my daughter's case, she may lose her job from being late and absent from work so much this whole past year because of Meg's problems, so added to everything else, there may be difficult financial problems. The report says that for the impacted child's colon to get back to working properly, a colonic or maybe even several may be required, because enemas don't clean the upper colon where impaction may still be present causing indigestion and behavioral problems. I think Meg has had constipation problems for a long, long time. (She had to take the 2nd grade over, because of ADD mainly.) The pediatrician at the hospital said it would take 6 mos of using a stool softener every other day for Meg's colon to get back to normal. So we will probably encourage them to let us take Meg for a colonic in Boulder if she doesn't start having regular daily BMs by next week. If you want the report I will attach it to email for you or find it again on WWW so you can read it. I'm writing all this to help other parents who may be having the same problems with their precious children. It is NOT fun, believe me, to see a child in constant pain, being punished for what she can't help, or have behavioral problems which cause her to 'act out' at home or fail in school. People just don't realize how constant constipation can destroy their health and lives. I also read that 3% of all pediatrician visits are concerning constipation, so what does that tell us (refined foods diet, neglectful parents). Thankfully, Meg loves fruits and veggies, whole wheat bread, etc. so I think with proper diet, plenty of pure water, explaining to her that she MUST move her bowels every day, etc., she will be OK once the impaction is gone.
