Re: Article on the Master Cleanse: Comments?

I have had the same concerns. I read the The Master Cleanser before I began the diet and it sounded good enough for me to want to try it. I am one of those people that tend to believe in holistic medicine, but I do agree with the author of that article that a lot of what goes on in holistic medicine is pseudo-science. It seems to be more anecdotal evidence rather than verifiable hard-core scientific studies.

I personally am trying the cleanse as an experiment to see how it works for me. One of the things that the author states in the article and that a number of the old timers here in the forum have said is that if the cleanse is not accompanied by a life style change, then basically the cleanse does no good and may actually cause more problems such as increased weight gain.

I really needed a change in my life style. I had been a vegetarian for 9 years and gotten off that. I had been eating poorly the past year, stopped exercising, gained 30 pounds and was about as unhealthy as I have ever been. This to me was a good way to start my new life style. I plan on continuing with some of the other cleanses afterwards such as a Liver Flush and parasite cleanse. I was traveling around the world last year and I ate quite a bit of the local fare, not the usual tourist crap, so I feel a cleanse would do me good and give me some peace of mind.

That being said, one of my personal concerns about Burroughs, the author of Master Cleanse, is that in his book he quotes the National Enquirer and Jeanne Dixon.

In my book, anybody who reads the National Enquirer for other than entertainment is questionable. But, anybody who quotes it and tries to back up thier argument with the Enquirer is really whacked. Why do you think the movie "Men in Black" make fun of the National Enquirer...

Well, that's my opinion. It may not be a popular one seeing as how I am criticizing the author who started the cleanse. But I am giving the cleanse a try and I'll make my own decisions based upon my own experience.
