Re: Article on the Master Cleanse: Comments?

That article really burns me up! While there is a (at least to me, concerning)lack of peer reviewed scientific research out there, that author was less than fair and unbiased. This is the best info I can offer: The most amazing professor I've ever be taught by teaches my graduate level abnormal physiology course. She is a researcher for the Harvard University School of Public health as well as a professor there. Needless to say, she is adored and hugely respected by my academic community and beyond. I sat down with her to go over some course material last week and I told her all about the MC. She told me she hasn't had much personal experience with fasting herself, besides following a fruit only diet every thursday for four years, but she told me she did know enought to believe, 'it shouldn't do any harm.' "if it makes you feel good, do it." Then she talked a bit about calorie restiction and longevity but that wasn't really where I wanted to go. I feel that the article, like many individuals who have commented on my choice to experience the MC, was reacting to a massive populations use of detox methods. It's no secret many individuals with eating disorder supplement their disfunctions with "fasts." This and other occurances add to the stigma of cleasing/fasting. But EVERYTHING is this grand world can be abused!

What has impressed me the most about this forum are the warnings by folks like Pepe, making it absolutely plain and clear that the road to good health is through lifestyle changes. The Master-Cleanse promises nothing. The article ends with a issue that people on this forum have tackled head-on. Hey, nay-sayer, WebMD! With the curezone on board, one can ensure the Master-Cleanse is utilized to our maximum benefit! None of us are going back to our old way of living. So many benefits we've all learned about here, not even mentioned!

Anyway, sorry for the rant, must stop procrasting homework...

BTW WebMD is not a great resource, some of their disease and drug definitions are off, I can't use it as an adjunct to my study. Sometimes they try to simplify explainations and end up presenting misleading info....
