Re: Ouch!! criticism from spouse re diet & cleansing
Dear 68707,
thanks for posting a response and for your suggestions. Your advice is
true and heartfelt. I do pray for my husband, *all the time.* I do feel my
husband *occasionally* listens to me, that is why he tries a few of the
things I suggest he try, although he doesn't have the stick-to-it-iveness
he really should, because people are programmed to think that if it doesn't
have an immediate effect (like a drug) it's not worth the wait or the $.
He gets discouraged with all the serious illness he has been through; he
has been through more than most people have in a lifetime, with ulcerative
colitis first, then 2 hip replacements in the prime of life, then
2 more in his fifties, and now Parkinsons. I try to be compassionate at
the same time as I try to get him to do things differently. I have been
called a "badger" before (lots) for my efforts. He is not stupid, and I
really do believe he wants to be well, but in his case, I often feel he
gave up years ago, it's just too overwhelming. I'm glad you are perceptive
enough to give your wife credit for having the "smarts." I sense that my
husband also feels this way about me, but he feels powerless within himself
to change at a deep level. Only he can do that. And I have to love and
support him at the level he is, wherever that is, at the same time as I
keep up the fight. A bit of a balancing act.
