Ouch!! criticism from spouse re diet & cleansing
So this evening my poor-suffering husband :-) told me to zip it cuz he felt
I was being "self-righteous" for saying that wanting to eat healthy becomes
easy, something you want to do and do not have to force yourself to do,
after you've cleansed and fasted as I have. I told him I wasn't talking about
myself necessarily, I was generalizing. I had just suggested he eat
the sunflower sprouts I put in our salad, which he doesn't care for (at least
not in the quantity I do) and he said he didn't want them, to which I replied
his diet wasn't that great (canned tuna and rice with the occasional steamed
carrot and green onion, with peanut sauce over it, a typical dinner; 2 eggs
sort of scrambled, for breakfast, cooked in olive oil, plus 2 pieces of
English muffin or bread, toasted/ w/ butter and jam. For lunch he makes a
roast beef sandwich or just has a smoothie made from chocolate flavored almond milk
with a scoop of protein powder (and lately A*****ose from M****tech, at my
urging) or goes out for a Burger King burger. Eats salads in the warmer
season, but rarely ever any fruit (likes berries though). I gave up trying to
get him to eat better many, many years ago, and haven't criticized his diet
in as long as I can recall. He just said he didn't want to hear about it.
Do any of you have this particular problem w/ your spouse, and if so, how
do you deal with it? I feel there is a whole big part of my life that I
can't discuss with him and feel frustrated. I should point out here that he
has had many serious health challenges through the years, beginning in his
late twenties when he developed ulcerative colitis, and had to have his colon
out in his later thirties; 4 hip replacements due to his hip joints wearing
away on account of the massive (IV) doses of prednisone to take swelling down
from the UC (2 replacements when he was in his late thirties, and two
revisions in '01 and '03, respectively); and now suffers from Parkinsons and
also sleep apnea, which is not serious, but it's just one more thing. I try
to get him to pay more attention to his diet at the same time as not harping
on it, but I guess saying anything at all is just not acceptable.
