Often, it takes going to more than one type of practitioner before finding the one that works. Acupuncture might not be right for him right now, but homeopathy might help... or maybe something else will. Just because he didn't find acupuncture to be helpful doesn't mean he should just stop looking for professional guidance.
Regarding money, many holistic practitioners will work with clients on a sliding scale basis. Even the ones who don't always work on a sliding scale will usually work with people on an individual needs basis. Also, not all healing modalities require a weekly appointment. I was on welfare when I received (and paid for) homeopathic treatment several years ago... if I can fit it in on that low income level, Kevin can too. He just needs to find a practitioner who will work with him.
