Re: Gospel message - get started!
i realize all of that already. i dont think you realize what you said.
first you said:
"You don't have to go to church to hear the "gospel message" - you can read it for yourself in the Bible. The Gospels are the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. You could choose any one of those and read it. Gospel means "good news"..."
that was informational, and a lot like what i said. but immediately after this you said:
"...and the good news could be summarized by John 3:16. God loves us! Jesus came to earth, fully man and fully God. He lived, worked miracles, died for the sins of all people, was buried, rose again, and ascended into heaven, where he lives. One day he will come back to earth. In the meantime, the Holy Spirit was sent to us, to convict us of sins, and to COMFORT us!"
those words were not informational. you were preaching. kevin was obviously trying to avoid that, or he would have gone to church, again. also, kevin is under a lot of stress and anxiety over his health conditions. couple that with him recently being on zoloft and going off of it himself, and i believe that makes him unduely exposed mentally and emotionally. he is also under my wing temporarily for advice, so i have a certain responsibility to him and, even if in small measure, for him. no one is responsible for saving kevin except kevin. he is fully capable of handling that responsibility or he wouldnt be here(alive on earth). trust god on this. its his health i am concerned about and that he has asked my help with. he is obviously already well versed in anything you have to say about your christ. again, you might see his desperation as a sign to strike while the iron is hot. i dont. the god i know in the bible is all about a clear mind, rational thinking, and a temperate spirit, not given to reactionary rashness and chaos. if kevin is anything right now, it is upset.
in fact, if you read his original post, it was a bit irrational, his question being "am i going to die?" who the hell can answer that? i didnt even try. instead, i focused his attention on the reality of the situation he finds himself in. what he chooses for himself personally is between him and god. he has been taught that every persons salvation is every christians business. that is an obvious fallacy under which christianity operates and it is understandable why they think that. that doesnt make it any less of a lie. as i explained to kevin, thats just about all he has known all of his life is lies. it is part and parcel of his health problems, and everyone elses for that matter. i have four years of intense study under my belt, and i cant count how many lies i have ferreted out of my thinking, and thats just on the subject of human health! i have been working on my spiritual life for decades.
if you wish to discuss your theology further(i dont recommend it), post that quote of yours on the christian debate forum and ask me what i think. i will tell you. i will check over there tomorrow. i dont frequent that forum except for a spot check once in a blue moon.
