Re: why juice your fruits/veggies instead of eating them whole?
Just to give you an idea from my personal routine of 2 pints a day. Here's the recipie for my everyday juice:
6 to 8 carrots
2 to 3 stalks of celery
1/2 to 1 whole beet
2 green apples
parsley - if you were to bunch up the stems it would come to around 1/2 inch
Sometimes I add cucumber and or spinach
Not only is this a super nutritional combo but it is also muy delicioso. Another fave combo is carrots, apple and ginger.
So you see it really is not that much and like I said before. You'd hafta be eating 15 to 20 lbs of whole vegetables to >maaaaaybe< get anywhere near the nutritional value you get from the juice.
When you juice regularly you start buying your veggies in bulk. Where I live there is a farmers market where I can buy organic carrots in 25 lbs bags which is much cheaper than buying them at the store a coupla
pounds at a time.
I also dring 2
oz of wheat grass juice upon awakening. You have to have a dedicated juicer for this again making an initial investment but I tell you it's worth every penny.
There are many different juicer out there and some work better than others. I use a Champion juicer which is probably one of the best known, most efficient and has been around for a long time. A real work horse.
I bought mine used in the mid 70's and finally after all these years I needed to replace some parts. I called the company to see I could get some parts for such an old juicer. They asked me for the serial number so they could date the machine and the guy tells me it was built around 1959!! Imagine that the thing is over 40 years old. The design has changed little but some of the newer parts don't fit with the older machines like mine so basically I wound up replacing the whole front assembly but that was only $60. I originally paid $70 used back in the 70's. Now I have a basically new machine cept for the motor which works great and it'll probably go for another 40 years. Needless to say I wholeheartedly recomend the Champion. Check out their website @
