Re: Liver First!
DMSA is known to be very hard on the liver, it does increase excretion of mercury thru the kidneys but it is also very hard on the liver.
Detox pathways are very complex and no matter what an "expert" says detox is not well understood. It is widely believed that the liver is involved in most chemical detox actions, then an excretion pathway (lungs, skin, bowel, urine) is used. So the liver is most likely involved even when diagnostic testing shows increased excretion of mercury thru kidneys.
I did Cutler protocol mercury detox with ALA, DMSA and DMPS for about 2 years and it is much safer and more effective than standard MD protocols. I know based on experience, DMSA is hard on liver. If you don't believe me, check with other long term DMSA users. My liver was really trashed by the mercury, DMSA, chelation. Now I'm having success with the
Liver Flush protocols as described on this board.
My own experience says clearing and supporting detox pathways BEFORE begining serious chelation is the best approach. Common sense says if you can get your liver cleaned out before using DMSA you are going to have more success with mercury detox. Emptying the kitchen sink while the drain is stopped may help the sink, but it sure causes lots of other problems!
Regards,
PS.. If you ask around you may find that Cutler himself had serious gallbladder issues after longterm DMSA use. Most knowlegable natural health pactioners see GB problems as a "downstream" manifestation of liver problems so--DMSA chelation strains the liver which ripples down into GB.
