Ok then that is not about being a man per se
It is about growing up as image and not soul- and do not feel alone- My parents were the orignal Jonses!
As in keeping up with the Joneses
The house overlooking the ocean, a french car in 1960 when even the beetle was not so well received (a renault dolphin- what a hunk a junk)
Agnostics, alcoholics, glitterati, art, and artists.. sailboats and much time in and on the water (lovedit)alway a big show
And so sad and bereft, that alcohol, and sex were the rebellious acting out of the 30's gneration.
So while there was great excitment, intellectual curiosity, (and chaos) there was a kind of honesty that hard drinkers and beatniks prided themselves on.
And so from that we learn what we learn- but we are (to whatever end) the creaters of our reality!
Try this forum for a while see if it helps with the power issues of which you speak
BTW- your parents were wrong - so what- they only had what they had to work with..admit it, and move on- theydid the best they good with the paradigm they were given..same for you same for me
