Re: TMJ Surgery

Hey Lisa
I don't know yet if the surgery worked or not because I have yet to open my jaw fully. I still have restriction on how much I can open my mouth. I do know that the loud, hard, painful "Clunk" I used to have when I opened my mouth has yet to be heard or felt......before, every time I opened my mouth I heard and felt a strong "Clunk" which was the joint getting stuck on the disc and then clicking over it. My surgeon and I are taking this as a good sign and I am working with a physiotherapist to help get my full movement back. I am at 6 weeks since surgery and things are progressing as expected so I truly believe this may have worked for me.

If you do an internet search under "Jaw Surgery" there are some articles discussing the exact surgery your surgeon is proposing. I know that you cannot believe everthing you read on the net however this may give you some questions to ask you surgeon before agreeing tp (or declining) the surgery. My first question would be if the disc is "Stitched" into place, how does it move with the jaw movement. Has he/she discussed this with you?

Good Luck and be sure to let me know how things go.
