To me it's curious that the stuff has never been documented in any scientific way. Furthermore, I believe that scientists and doctors would jump at the chance to gain some recognition by discovering and describing mucoid plaque. Why must it be documented in a peer reviewed journal to gain legitimacy? Because that helps to filter out bogus and untrue claims. It's not a perfect system, bad Science can still get through. But until someone thinks of a better system to guard against fallacy, it's the best we got. In order to gain broad acceptance as a valid medical condition, this step is essential.
