Re: My cholesterol is OVER 300!!! What foods to eat?
I test my cholesterol using home kits and went to two different chemists and got them done it there and they ranged from 4.7 to 6.1 (UK measure). In the end I got it done properly at the hospital and it turned out to be 6.6 and my ldl was 4.4 (high), so I would be wary of the accuracy of most testing kits. My Doctor then tried to force me to take lipitor but I refused and said I would try to lower it by diet and exercise first. He said ok but admitted to me when I came back after six weeks that he thought he would be writing out a prescription for me. Luckily it was down to 5.6 and I hope that it will continue to go down.
High cholesterol can be from foods you eat (I think this accounts for 20%) and also from how much your liver producing, but is also determined by how much you body gets rid of. I started off by cutting out foods such as saturated fat and hydronated vegetable oil etc and switched to eating more vegetables and for fruit usually apples (I cant eat too much fruit because of candida), and added more oily fish to my diet as it contains the good oils and essential fatty acids. Increasing the EFAs increased my hdl (good cholesterol) and helped to lower my ldl (bad cholesterol) from 4.4 to 2.7. I also added more fibre e.g. husks/ground up flax seeds as this helps to trap and take the cholesterol out of the body, also apple pectin does this.
I also take supplements, but after your other points I know that this is something that you dont want to do so I would suggest increasing your intake of vitamin c and e.
Exercise also helps lower cholesterol.
This is as much as I can remember right now.
Also, I ordered a book called something like "8 weeks cholesterol cure" by Robert something? and found it really helpful in explaining why people have high cholesterol and what works and the guy who wrote it speaks from experience.
I have another information pamphlet that I got from my local healthstore that is very informative so I will have a read through it an add any further info from there.
Good luck with lowering yours.
