What is the Christian view on breatharianism?
I have seen some mention of breatharianism around here at Curezone lately. I did a little cursory research and apparently these are people who don't need to eat or drink and (apparently) frequently think they are immortal and/or live a long time. Some call it "Living on Light." Catholics have saints who are inediates (breatharian). Apparently some can eat some food if they feel like it, occasionally, but don't "need" it.
Is this possible? For people to live years without food or drink? (I don't mean fasting, fasting is different). Or is it all a hoax?
I assume that in the new heaven and earth, our glorified bodies will not need to eat or drink. Then again, we will also be in the presence of God. He will sustain us directly. So whether or not we will be like that in the future, and whether or not Jesus' body, after his resurrection, was like that, is a little beside the point at the moment.
Since creation we see that God gave grass, herb yielding seed, fruit. They were walking in the Garden with God but they also ate. Ever since God put people on earth, they ate. We see in the Lord's Prayer, "Give us this day our daily bread" indicating our need for sustainance, and our dependance on God for our needs. We learn that Man shall not live by bread alone (indicating it is necessary) but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. (or something like that)
I am wondering, if it is NOT a hoax, is it demons? Does Satan have the power to allow people to live years without food? I am not sure. God gives life and God takes away, and God alone. It seems that most of the people interested in breatharianism today are into New Age/Eastern Religion. Seems like a lot of meditation going on, too. It would seem advantageous for Satan to let some people live without eating, to show his 'power' and lead people astray, etc. After all, they live on prana, or light. Satan is an "angel of light." Would it be possible for a Christian to be breatharian?
I am interested on any thoughts, knowledge and input on this topic anyone may have. I want to clarify by adding that I am not interested in becoming one myself, I am just curious about the truth in this topic!
