I had a rather severe bout with the mumps when I was 17, and it did not affect my fertility. At any rate, I'm not convinced that occasional cases of infertility caused by mumps are worse than the deleterious effects of herd-mentality vaccination. I'm not a fanatic and understand the dangers of epidemic diseases. My great aunt died in the 1918 flu epidemic and my 2 older children came down with pertussis at ages 1 and 3 (which, by the way, they caught from children who had been vaccinated). If polio or diptheria were sweeping the nation I would certainly re-weigh the cost/benefit of vaccinations for my family; however, it rankles that any government would coerce such a decision upon me. As my son's Dr once told me, "I understand how you feel; after all, our children are not cattle."
